Keep in mind a HUGE percentage of gamers DO NOT turn off their "use kinect as microphone" option in settings. Countless times I've had to mute entire teams worth of people to keep from listening to their insanely loud TV, their crap music, or their extremely obnoxious family yelling at each other.
Sooo... Imagine that while talking with the Cryptarch.

I agree that it's annoying to have pricks running around trolling but there needs to be a better way to communicate than running up to someone and standing there creepily inviting them to a party
-
This exactly why I think they should just add an invite to private chat option to the player menu. It could suspend your fireteam chat and return you to fireteam chat after you close private. You would also need a way to ignore private invites when you don't want to deal with them.

Edited by Rabishu_: 8/1/2014 5:29:20 PMYou should not have to worry about the kinect, seeing as it should not work on full release (to get to 1080p they had to allocate the memory that is set aside for the kinect, and remember beta was 900p that is why kinect worked in the beta)

Edited by DEZARATH: 8/1/2014 2:10:49 PMHopefully they place other emotes to cycle through in the full game. I don't think the whole tower should be Prox chat. If anything I think they should add a specific hall or stations within the Tower that allows Prox chat so players have a option to hear one another without degrading the entire Tower down to the whim of some vile players.

Edited by l0ufromdaBX: 7/31/2014 11:46:29 PMLook i would like proximity chat simpy for the reason that i want to be able to talk shit to opponents in multiplayer. Sorry not sorry. I love all aspects of this game so far and meeting randoms in strikes and teaming up is awesome, but i relish being able to trashtalk in competitive multi and i can't be the only one. Those were good times in Halo 2 untill it was removed. Just add the option to easily mute people.
-
True that's why they should add an easy mute system.
-
Legit question that I know nothing about: Can I invite a random player to a private chat on live or PSN without adding them as friends?

To the vocal minority opposing proximity chat... The most common argument in opposition to prox chat seems to be, "just wave and invite them to your FT." Easier said than done, for example. I must have run ten strike missions, and through matchmaking was grouped with twenty other guardians over the course of those ten missions. As a rule, i would wave, buddy jump, and quickly send FT invites to my strike mates, to better coordinate, call for revival etc. etc. during said strike. Of those twenty guardians, two from separate strikes joined my FT. Now, your experience may have been much different in comparison to mine, but that does not change MY experience. What a terrible ratio!!! You can argue, and rationalize all you want. It was like pulling teeth. The system for communication in destiny is a glaring mistake (imho) in an otherwise amazing product. I feel as a community we should be given an official vote handled by bungie for the definitive consensus we deserve on this major issue. I hope i didn't offend anyone, lol. Thank you.

I'd like to see an emote (such as offering a handshake) or even a simple button prompt being used to request and subsequently accept or deny that request for chatting. Just an idea. All in all, I agree that people can be highly obnoxious in multiplayer games and it's nice to see Bungie trying to limit this. But in a game that encourages forming teams and in the case of raids outright demands teams, there needs to be an easier way to meet people in game.

Good point. Or have the game automute players with too much background noise and make it a rule of playing that too much noise is not tolerated

Edited by MIDNIGHT562: 7/31/2014 7:55:30 PMProximity chat does not have to be picked up through kinect, that would be a nightmare. We are also not just talking Xbox. Be it PS3,PS4, 360 or XB1 you would need head set mic connected. That and you'd need to stand close to the person so muting them would be as easy as walking away from them.
-
Having proximity chat limited to where you have to be standing a few feet away from someone in order to hear/talk to them, seems like the most ideal solution. Recruiting people join your fireteam would be as simple as walking up to someone and asking them. For groups, you'd only need to sit/stand close to each other to have a conversation (even if you're not in a fireteam). They'd have to input some sort of mic icon next to the players name though. I remember seeing one in orbit but I'm don't remember seeing one in the field.
-
That's why they don't need proximity chat but they do need pvp, raids and strike chat.
-
I would like proximity chat but i also have turned my kinect microphone. Why microsoft thought it would be okay to ship the console so that the kinect microphone is always working on chat i don't know.
-
Option Menu > Toggle Proximity Chat Default > On Proximity chat I think it necessary. I can't tell you how much easier it would be than the soul searching involved in someone inviting a total stranger just to kick him out all because he wanted to do a raid while you were hoping he'd help with a story mission. Heck, just adding a text chat would work. Or... got a great idea for Feedback thanks!

That reminds me of Need for Speed Rivals for the PS4, you know everything that goes on in the life of those who have a PS camera.

So set the prox chat so you have to toggle it on and the toggle replaces a gesture well you have prox chat turned on in the settings
