There was a recent post about same sex relationships. Or rather being able to play a "gay" character. Which kind of annoyed me. Not because I'm anti gay, but because I'm "anti idiot"
In a game where for one, relationships aren't even a part of, two sexuality isn't a part of, three there is no love story, providing the option to be gay is right up there with choosing to be Catholic or Muslim, French or Brazilian, it's not just pointless, it's stupid AND it takes away from the game.
How? Let me tell you.
If they give into the hetrophobic people and add gay characters they'd have to create a reason. Which would take resources away from other far more important and enjoyable thing that unlike the 1% of people who want gay characters, 100% of people would enjoy.

I could make a list 3 or 4 times this size. All things far more important to add to the game than relationships OR "gay" characters. The problem is the "heterophobic" people out there who hate straight people so much they actually hate the idea of playing any character that isn't clearly marked as being gay will whine and cry until they get their way. Sadly enough I'm sure there were people who complained about no gay characters in Angry Birds or no gay drivers in Forza or Gran Tourismo.
I'm not homophobic. I am realityphobic! I do NOT play games to deal with reality. I don't want to see gay characters in a futuristic fantasy game that doesn't involve relationships just like I don't want to see references about "obamacare" or Russia invading Ukraine or the Palestinians attacking innocent Israeli civilians, or 9/11 or the government taking 60% of my earnings etc.... Games are an escape from reality, not an intentional emulation. Personally if you want to be gay, go to the gay bar, keep it out of games. I don't need relationships in games! Has any game gotten it right anyway? I have yet to see a game where you argue over pointless crap, where the ai picks an argument then storms off or kicks you out, or one where you get married, then she cheats on you, takes your house so she can screw the guy, with your children in the next room, takes half your cash, and then after the divorce you're stuck paying 90% of your income in alimony, so you can't even afford to live in an efficiency apartment! Or wouldn't it be nice to play a racing game where random parts can break on your car? Forza REAL! Where you're driving, hit a pothole and break an axle, or your car overheats and you blow the radiator or your transmission just goes on you.
Yeah... Let's inject more life into video games! Sound fun? No? Then instead of "gay" characters how about we spend more time on the content we ALL want.
