Speculation, Misinformation, and Disappointment Information Compilation Topic

It's time to end all this silly conflict about the games size, and disappointment due to being "over-hyped" that's been going around. I will explain to you why using sources gathered throughout the beta off and on the forums. Game Size: This http://www.twitch.tv/2old2play/b/551599375 at about 1:49:40 the question: Are there only one explorable areas per planet/moon. During this they are in an crucible match so the guy asking it messes it up a bit(can you blame him?). DeeJ understands what he is asking and corrects him by stating the worlds(destinations) that we can go to. But some have stated that it means only one zone per destination, but that is up to speculation. This http://destinydb.info/ has been used to support this topic as well, but it was recently updated to say it's all speculation and is subject to change. Also supported by this post made by the creator of the site http://www.reddit.com/r/DestinyTheGame/comments/2bw74e/please_remain_calm_destiny_has_32_story_missions/ it's still speculation. Even further evidence we have been mistaken is by this post(which may or may not be from urk) http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=862762 After reading that post please note that he stated the moon was the smallest location in the game. Now this all may or may not change in the coming weeks but I can say this, Bungie isn't stupid they knew someone was going to data-mine so they would have put limited information to further hype and hide the full game. But this is merely more speculation. Maps: I know that at one point Bungie stated that the PvP maps were based off of locations you could actually visit in the game. As well as the many locations we came to see through concept art and in game footage like here http://youtu.be/LIxxsw7TNd4?list=UU52XYgEExV9VG6Rt-6vnzVA around 1:27 here you'll see what looks to be Old Chicago. At 2:20 this looks to be a city on Venus. And 2:21 Look familiar? You'd be right if you said that's Shores of Time, but wait there's enemies there hmmm. 2:44 don't know where that is but it sure isn't like the other areas. 3:51 hey look Venus, that's quite a bit of missions. 4:56 that sure looks a lot like Shores doesn't it? I hope this changes your speculations on the so called "small game with few maps to play on". Disappointment/Over-Hype: Quite frankly the game is as I expected. Why? because I used the information at hand and from there formed expectations, and they were met when I played the beta. Bungie is doing their job. They are excited to get this game to us so they showed us all we need to know to decide. OK, yes they at one point said "you can go anywhere you see." But that was at last years E3 a lot can and will change in that time frame. Is it a limitation of the last gen hardware? Most likely, but only because Bungie knows as well as I do that not everyone is going to buy something that is so new just for one game. Of course I will buy next gen by time the Destiny sequel is released. Wait you mean it's not a ten year game? Obviously, it not being an MMO and it being the fact that continuing a story in one is hard without at some point overwriting the original story. Note World of Warcraft: Cataclysm. The whole vanilla world redone no longer there for new and old players to experience. Also to note here http://www.twitch.tv/2old2play/b/551599375 at 1:30:00-1:31:50 for more on this. Anyway, Bungie didn't "over-hype" the game. Please look at Spore and Diablo III those were over-hyped. In the end again they gave us all we needed to decide if this game is for us or not. So please if you are disappointed because of the beta blame yourself and give the full release a try. Beta Carry Over: This has also been asked about a lot but suffice to say it's up in the air. Bungie themselves do not know if it will be possible Why? DeeJ stated that the team doesn't know yet if it is possible. If you go to 1:33:54 of http://www.twitch.tv/2old2play/b/551599375 you'll get your answer on another round of editions. 1:36:00 for final info on trading. That's all I have for know so I hope you get something out of this, thanks for reading. Now here's a dessert buffet please enjoy it if you read this post :)

        • Yeah, I completely do NOT understand people's willingness to look around for information and just read into things as they wish. On both IGN's wiki and the Unofficial Wiki, Earth is listed to have multiple 'Places' to visit, not only just Old Russia, but Chicago and Mumbai off the top of my head. Every planet from Venus to Saturn has been shown off to some point as well, and there is talks of derelict ships showing up on the map as 'Places' to visit as well. I understand that IGN is not Bungie, however, IGN has honestly had more time and exposure to the game (from Alpha to release candidate, as they just showed off the new MP map yesterday from RC) than any of us by this point. If I'm going to trust 'third party' information, it's safe to say that IGN is telling you everything you want/need to know, you just have to read it for yourself.

          • I appreciate all the information presented here. For myself I have tried to keep any expectations low on this game. What the Beta did was show me what and how the game's mechanics are setup. The added details are interesting, but greater revelations I would not expect until the full release. If there's one thing I would disagree with you on, it's the question of hype by Bungie. To me, that hype-train lies with the reveal vid-doc: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EwOUi4JDC4o While it may not be fair to use as an example this far down the line, but the whole thing does come off as pretentious when using phrases like "bold, new action game"; "we're challenging ourselves"; and "building something alive." It sounds like your are selling something way beyond a game - that's some serious hype you setup for your audience for better or worse. Now - if anyone can pull it off, I tend to think Bungie can. They have been great at building well-done worlds and stories - look at Marathon, Myth, and Halo to see that. So, despite any hype, I would not say I am disappointed nor expect to be when the full game is revealed.

            • Good stuff man, and you're absolutely correct. People need to chill the hell out. Everything is pretty much speculation at this point, and the game was everything I expected... well more so for me, but definitely wasn't less. And c'mon who are we to complain about lack of game content when CoD is a best seller... it's the same friggin game in a different box year after year... like an iPhone :P Just chill and wait people, this is bungie were talking about. They've had more than enough time to prepare for Destiny, so it's not like we're gonna see another another halo 2 situation.

            • That article was way to scattered for me to read, let alone follow the links. Like you, the game was what I expected as well. Every time I saw another trailer or release, I would try to convince myself that it wouldn't be as bad as it looked. But the more I saw the more hope I lost. And sure enough when I played it, it was just as disappointing as I thought it would be.

            • Sitting there playing Wow and not buying a ps4, 2cool4u. Pretending to not care about Destiny while stalking the forums and reddit 24/7 Making this post for what reason? Not sure why you feel the need to personally defend destiny, and bungie and DeeJ Whole thing screams of fanboyism, either that or you were paid (most likely in corndogs) Only valid point is that Destiny is limited because its on ps3. GG Bungie Troll. 1/10

The area we were able to effectively explore in earth seemed to be fairly large, but you can traverse it pretty quickly. Even so my brother wandered into an area with level 20 dregs on earth so I'm sure there are area's meant to later story mission or strikes at high level.

at 3:50 of your video, was that TWO Strike mission markers AND a Raid mission marker on Venus? Yes...yes it was. Could this be the Vault of Glass? More than Likely. Could this be a different Raid all together and there's actually going to be more than the Vault of Glass? Possibly. I will say the game is going to be much more expansive than everyone is speculating. This post helps prove that. What it also helps prove, however, counter to what the OP is saying is that there DOES indeed seem to be a singular location per planet to do all these missions in. What do you see each time the developer clicks on a planet? Not a choice of what zone you want to go. Just the list of missions, Strikes, Raids, and Explore markers to click on.....which are all limited to whatever Destination is on that planet. For Earth it was Old Russia. You do not see a choice of going to Chicago and seeing a different map of Earth. Just 'Earth' . You do not see them being given a choice to check out the Venus 'Reef'. Just 'Venus' Video proof straight from the developers don't lie. They are showing us everything. Have already shown us everything. As Deej said in the above quoted live stream from the OP; the developers have shown us everything that's going to be in this first version of Destiny. We just have to open our eyes and see it.

                  • Yea about that quote from Deej.. He really is being dodgy as -blam-. The reporter is fishing for info on the amount of zones and Deej dodges the question by saying "Yea, we are calling them destinations and they are earth, Moon, mars and Venus." An excellent dodge since he probably can't reveal any other POSSIBLE locations.

                      • I don't know how I missed that E3 trailer, probably too busy waiting for the Beta, but that does make me think that there will be a lot to do, even if it all isn't strictly story related. More important to me is how long the missions are. The ones in the Beta could be done in just a few minutes. I am hoping there is more there. Thanks for posting this though. Too many people crying doom.
