Difference between Attack and Impact?

Hey guys, played the beta the last few days and it was awesome! Some things I was a tad confused about and was hoping some of you fine upstanding gentlemen/women could help me understand. What does the Attack statistic mean? Is that how much damage the weapon does, or does it just act as the "level" of the weapon? Because you can find an assault rifle and a rocket launcher, both with the same attack stat. Also, Impact. Is THIS damage? Or is it maybe how much impact/knock back it causes on the target, like if it makes them flinch or not when shot? Maybe it affects how much damage gets through to enemies with armor or shields? Basically I was looking for an explanation of those two stats in relation to each other. Also, what does the Range mean? Do the rounds disappear after a certain distance? Or is it meant to represent the first shot accuracy of the weapon? Or do they have damage drop-off in the game, similar to Battlefield, where bullets start losing damage after a certain point? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Sincerely, an MMO newb.

  • In the regular crucible PVP impact is basically how much damage you deal based off of that information you look at the other stats and you can tell how the gun is going to play out then you just need to tested in the game to see how you like the kick. Now when it comes to PBE or the iron banner they attack of the weapon actually does matter because it's no longer balanced to be the same number as your opponent. Same goes for your defense of rating as opposed to your classes actual armor agility and recovery when you're in the regular crucible you just want to look at those stats not your defensive pts
