  • Some things it seems people are in need of reminding about: Aside from supers, there are pretty much just as many OHK weapons in Destiny as in most other competitive shooter. Actually, since destiny grenades don't OHK, you can go ahead and add the supers and I still think it has fewer OHK options than something like Battlefield. Speaking of supers, it's not like I can just blast nova bombs left and right whenever you want. These things take several minutes, or a huge killstreak, to power up. There's nothing that specifically tracks super kills in pvp, but I would say that only about 10% of my kills are from nova bomb. This small portion of my kill total does not "completely invalidate Destiny's competitive multiplayer." PVP is hard. People will always be smarter and sneakier than AI. Some people are very good at manipulating AI, and it makes them very good at pve. This will do you no good in pvp, where you have to use psychology to your advantage, not algorithms. You can get the pvp gear with a minimum of pvp play. I don't know how many of you noticed this, but giving stacks of 40 spinmetal (or any planetary gatherable resource) to the crucible bot gave you crucible marks and rep. Your preferred game type will not exclude you from the gear you want. In fact, pvp-centric players are the ones who will be excluded, since there is no way to obtain vanguard gear from pvp play. Time to kill varies from game to game. In the Halo series, time to kill is very long, and protracted duels are common and concentrated fire is your biggest advantage. In games like CoD and Battlefield, getting the drop on someone is the best way to win a fight, and duels are decided in a couple seconds. Destiny is between those two extremes, where it takes more than 4 bullet from my AR to someones torso to take them out, but I'm also not blowing a full magazine on one dude. Plus, even with space armor, how many bullets could YOU take before being combat ineffective? We all want Destiny to be everything we ever wanted, but just remember that Bungie is trying to craft an experience everyone can enjoy, so they are going to work just as hard on the things you like as the things you don't. Stay vigilant, Guardians.

  • I like cooperative play because it feels like your getting things done (at least for me) but in pvp it seems like nothing will ever change just more mindless killings( but call of duty, battlefield, even Arma are what most people buy). However, It is cool that Bungie gives you loot for pvp.

  • Being a PVE-er myself I understand your concern.Tho It will be interesting to see how deep/engaging the RPG element feels at higher levels in the game.

  • PvE should be 80% of this game. PvP should fall in the remaining 20% I enjoy some PvP when I want to take a break from the field and battle it out some (for fun), not competition. Just being in the Beta I felt like PvP was a major part. Multiple PvP vendors, Iron Banner pops up, tons of PvP gear to earn. I honestly can't see myself Logging into Destiny to run PvP matches for hours on in. I can only hope and pray that PvE has tons to offer and holds my attention as new content is released but it PvP turns out to be the primary entertainment here, I will end up moving on to another game. Here's to hoping for a strong PvE Destiny.

    • The AI in the Explore mode is just......plain. They get killed by the player then respawn to the exact same positions 30 seconds later. They need to have big Patrols of 10 - 15 Enemies (maybe with Pikes) and a high level leader and they would patrol around a base or area for a few minutes. These patrols would change with the night and day cycle and would be spread out so the world is not too crowded. This is mainly for the Fallen and Cabal, the Hive will just swarm in dark buildings and I have no idea about the Vex.

      • A good thing might be is that if you kill too many of 1 group in a certain amount of time they get angry and start sending boom squads at you. Then finally sending in the hitman to get you after causing more damage to their ranks. That could be an event where everyone can help a fellow guardian from being hunted down. More or less like gta's heat system then everyone joins in on rank 5.

PvP needs slight balancing. No major tweaking. I think they should work on the PvP a bit more. People who do not like PvP are in no position to say PvP should only be a small part of this game. There will most likely be a competitive scene and all that. PvP is crucial. It adds longevity to the game.

        • I agree that Destiny needs more focus on PvE, and less on PvP. When this game was first announced, it was pitched to the gaming public as a MMORPG with FPS gameplay. While I enjoyed the beta, it really does feel no different that playing 4 player coop in halo. Hopefully the final rollout surprises us all.

So many noob tubes. It's like the Lava Pit in Quake but not nearly as fun. The movement powers add to the dimension of combat, not just a strafe shooter. Other than the amount of ohk, the PvP is very promising. I'd like to see ALOT more clan integration in game and some sparrow racing. The stuff Guardians would do in downtime, just like any soldier blowing off steam. More options will create a more robust world.

            • I personally hated the pvp but that is because I suck ass at it. Plus I have black ops if I want to run around and get killed all the time. I got excited over destiny as I've been wanting an open world shooter that I can play with mates for a while. Borderlands was great but not quite right for me. So far in the beta the destiny pve has been great. Exploring with mates and generally causing havoc is just what I wanted. My only concern from playing the beta is that pretty much everything in the tower Is focused on pvp and requires crucible marks etc. There is very little for the vanguard. Obviously there may be a lot more for the vanguard in full release but the beta was all about pvp.

            • I don't necessarily feel that the PVP is better than the PVE ( not that I've played all thatch PVP ) but in the later stages of the Beta a certain amount of jealousy and bitterness was beginning to set in watching all these gamers with their uber cool are gear and hearing stories from gamers on this forum about all the great stuff they got in the crucible. I feel that if PVP is not your thing then you are only getting half the Destiny experience and that it is slot harder to get good loot.

            • Right now PvP is bad. Its unbalanced and we knew it would be - the renormalising is cute, but ultimately it just does not fit into the game narrative. Worse, this is just bungie trying to sucker in extra customers from COD, here and there. What will happen is they will all troll the PvP area (no offense to them BTW) and make it feel so disjointed from the PvE experience, ruing the overall product in trying to grab a few extra dollars. The tower definitely has a PvP "feel" to it, with story quietly mentioned. Bungie will also get diminishing returns if they screw the pooch and focus on the PvP. Current marketing and past fans of the genre / studio are wanting an immersive story FPS - not a COD competitor (or worse, failed PvP clone) Bingie need to stick to making the PvE even better - its already fab - and not get bogged into the PvP side. It should be a way to pass the time / settle bro-disputes! NOT 50% of the game's draw factor. @mbTalent - yes, more rpg! I am a "massive" fan of the mass effect franchise. ME did 3 things very well; (third)person shooting, rpg and money making! Bungie should be aiming for the same thing, not running off to COD / battlefield land. ME has proven that you can make a franchise around a multi-sequel, scifi story driven game; with rpg elements, where you are the defender (guardian) of Earth... :) BTW - note what is missing? PvP. ME didnt need it and was slammed when it shoe'd in multiplayer in ME3. Im not suggesting bungie get rid of PvP (!), but they must be very careful to not lose focus of the goal; a story driven single/coop game. Reduce the perks from PvP and distrubute the cool gear to PvE is a good start. That way the PvP can be an arena, a tattoo if you will, of your accomplishments. Not a raison d'etre to boot up the game in the first place, and the "main" way to get any of the cool, interesting and powerful gear. This way it would become a self fulfilling prophecy - good PvP players get better gear, which makes them better at PvP, to get even better gear than everyone!!! What does protecting Earth and cooperating get you? Second rate, white and green loot cast off armaments, apparently!

PvE needs to be the focus in my opinion. There are so many PvP games out there, it's really been beaten to death. Same stuff, different game. Every game. I mean Destiny PvP was a newer version of Halo. We need a strong PvE game like this could be in the industry. I mean I don't mind some PvP like events, Iron Banner, but let's not dwell on it. We really don't need another PvP. For real. Please....PvE. We need something new. The idea of exploring the universe....just sick man

                • for me there is a big problem with the "pvp mode ' what was that guys? honestly this game is so so good but I quickly drop the pvp is just unreal! kill a guardian is just too hard sometimes I was behind or even hide I shoot touch the guy and what's happened he turns and kills me quietly "what? but It's a dream or what?" I have made almost 10/12 try in this mode then I drop, sickened :( then I try again when the event of "the iron banner" starts it was the same for me or even worse. no really, there's a real problem with the pvp , personally I'm a fan of COD for "the pvp mode" and instead i'm not very fan of the history mode in COD, but the destiny's PVP leaves me a bitter taste and i hate that. Bungie you did a great job on the game one more time it's awesome but for the PVP mode, you'll have to work on it if you wanrt me to "looks over" again... Sorry if the translation is not very good I'm french

                • I think that it got a bit easy to blow through rooms of dudes in PvE once you hit level 8 and got yourself some gear you're good with (like a semi-auto rifle or a particularly sexy belt-fed heavy machine gun). Part of the reason for it was that the world is almost like a hub where the enemies are meant to be either beaten for levelling purposes or ignored because they are not worth your time and you have shit to do. As for the PvP, it's not bad to have it. It adds a competitive component to the game and it seems like training. The better you are against adaptive, thinking human beings, the better you will be against the AI. That, and it is a status thing. Grinding a Fallen Captain into the dust is only fun so many times. But throwing your nemesis across the map with a rocket will never get old. However, the PvE will be the focus, as it ought to be, because it is a large world that people are meant to explore. Hell, it's a damned solar system that we are taking back. If that becomes secondary to teabagging dudes on the moon, I think we should fear for the future of gaming.

                • Why can't Bungie do PvE and PvP? The game has the base and capability to be great at both. It's only the Beta, most of the PvE hasn't even been discovered yet. And there's still quite a few people that want PvP and a decent competitive setting. Why not?

                • Right now the PvP feels largely garbage because there are so many one-hit-kill attacks in the game. It's very heavy on run, light on the gun, and one-hit-kill Super attacks have no place in competitive PvP. The PvP just isn't very "fun" right now and doesn't feel very fair. It feels cheap and dirty, and worse than Call of Duty (which is no high water mark itself).
