OFFLINE PLAY PLEASE READ!

Okay so here's my feed back, I think that a lot of people including myself would really love offline play, even if this means that the tower would be empty and there would be no events, but, if we could free roam and do story missions offline that would be great. REASON: My reason for a want of offline play is that the servers will no doubt be going offline after no longer receiving any support from bungie and not to mention the scheduled maintenance every couple of days and I would love to still be able to play the story of explore the cosmodrome offline when the servers are down for maintenance or finally go down, I still play Halo and Halo 2 on original XBOX, I wouldn't be able to if that was online only. I also think that some people will have bad internnet connection or no connection at all and if they can't play the story then Bungie is just cutting a percentage off of their customers. I played both Borderlands offline just for the lore and story elements and I would really like to do the same with Destiny, so if any of you guys and gals at Bungie are reading then please please consider adding offline play before launch, I know that Bungie is trying to bring people together here but there are those that would love to just play the story and explore the universe offline on their own, PLEASE PLEASE add offline play. Also if Bungie hasn't added offline play because they don't want people to hack their character and bring it online then just make it so that there are two different characters, one you can only play offline (which we use when internet is down or for those who simply want to play destiny and have no internet) and then a character you can only play online. Bungie, please consider.

For those of you worried about not being able to play destiny with poor internet connection. Fear not. I just spent the weekend at my fathers house whose internet is bad. And I mean BADDDDDDDDDDDDD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have problems loading google god forbid I try and use youtube. Well we had brought our ps4 in the hopes we could connect and receive the reward for logging on on the 26th. To our amazement and about 10 mins to connect to psn destiny started up. We decided to take it a step further. FOR MOTHER RUSSIA!!! No but really we loaded Russia with not much delay and played with not much lag. Only lag we experienced was on occasion loading up new parts of Russia. We played missions went to explore went through the tower and noticed a common theme. The game was desolate. Poor internet connections will be able to play but the game will be empty. You can't play the crucible (for obvious reasons) and strikes can be soloed. The last thing that amazed us was when a friend of ours tried joining. And he did. The game was still not laggy but transitioning from large areas to other large areas loading was a bit more frequent. Loading didn't take to long only about 3-5 seconds before smooth gameplay resumed. Didn't get to try joining his game becouse he went to sleep. Edit: public events ran perfectly fine to.

    • I want offline play, because I don't want to be forced to play online. Especially if I want to play by myself. I try to avoid every online game because of this. However, I like Destiny so much that I'm making it my only exception. I still wish it was offline and online though.

        • enemy AI, events, NPCs, etc are all processes run on servers. This would be like asking to play WoW offline. It would be a massive undertaking with many complications and a tiny payoff. So, no. I don't support this.

        • Sorry Corvo, but the feedback you're offering is directly at odds with the core design of the game - it's a Shared World Shooter. Everything Bungie has done with the game has been to create this Shared World Shooter, not to create a single player only campaign experience. Destiny is an MMO, which more or less requires a central authority on who's who and who has what in order to eliminate the risk of players hacking their stats. The harsh truth is if if you desire or require an offline experience, this game really isn't for you :(

I don't understand the idea behind this OP. I mean.. even though it's online, the gameplay, in no way changes for someone who desires to play by themselves. It's your choice to join up with others who are online with you. the MOBS and other things spawn so much, there is going to be no issue with you to have fun and find things to shoot and so forth. Raids or strikes!! You and your party once you go into a specific zone for the Strike are no longer visible to anyone else in that strike. So honestly, other than needing a physical connection to the server... Your OP makes no sense in the matter about playing alone vs needing to be online. Another thing about a physical connection... Bungie plans to update the servers and game content frequently. So you will need a connection at some point to get game content anyway. So do yourself a favor, when you play "online", pretend all the other people "online" are NPC's, and you get the best of both worlds. Now if you are limited to a specific amount of "online" time with your ISP, or something like that, can't help you man. Your loss.

          • I'm rather surprised theres people out there that dont want others to enjoy the game. an offline option wont hurt the game if done right.

          • Personally I'm in favor for this idea, even if they don't implement right away. for the following 2 reasons 1)I would like the option of being able to play when my internet is out 2) when 10 year shelf life is over i would like a game i could come back to as I'm still playing all my PS2 stuff.

            • If players want to play offline, then I got no problems with that. The deal would have to be NOTHING is carried over to online.

I don't like quoting IGN but it's perfectly possible to play most of the entire game offline.
"You absolutely are going to be able to play Destiny by yourself and have the same kind of fun shooter-experience that you could have in a single-player campaign, which is a word that we’ve weeded out of our vocabulary," he explained. But we’re going to give you this great player-progression on top of that, and we’re going to give you as many opportunities as we possibly can to expose you to other people, so that hopefully you’re drawn into some social experiences, because those are incredibly powerful and interesting, but we’re not going to force those on you." “We describe it in a lot of ways as sloping the floor towards socialization, without putting a requirement on it,” he went on. “I would say that there’s some sort of – if you wanted to talk about it in MMO terms, you’d say ‘end-game activities’, but some of the most intense non-competitive activities in the game do require cooperation. They require a group of players to tackle at once. "Raids, for example, will require additional players, but you will indeed be able to complete the campaign solo if you so choose. “I guess at some variable, distant endpoint we are going to say, ‘Yeah, if you show up at this door, and you don’t have five friends, you’re not going to be able to succeed,’ but the core experience that solo players have enjoyed in shooters, they’re going to be able to get that, and we’re going to pull many of them into social experiences as well.” Jason Jones
The devs themselves stated that the end game requires cooperative play, even if you haven't touched it for the vast majority of the game. If there's a particular mechanic put in place, done expect Bungie to tweak it any time soon.

                • Someone apparently needs to look up an internet dictionary and look up "MMO" in it so they understand what kind of game Destiny is.

                  • Dude, this game is an MMO, you cant complain about having a crappy internet or wanting to play alone when you buy an MMO. That's not how that works.

                    • This would be great. I was out of the country when this beta started and i couldn't get past the first video where ghost finds you and revives... <sigh> must've seen that 25 times at least anyways... My internet was 3.5 mbps and still it wouldn't go past that cutscene, internet speed in Mexico sucks BTW.

                    • This seems reasonable to me. I too only played Borderlands single-player or split-screen, and had a blast. I never needed or wanted to play with any random folks in that game.

As some one who lives in a high internet usage household I also would like an offline mode. No point in buying the game if I can't keep a good connection up for very long. That and I am not that interested in having to play with other people all the time.
