Thoughts About The Traveler?

Hello fellow Guardians. I'm sure over the past few months (and years depending on how far you go back) you've wondered what this spherical mystery has in store for us (ie. The Traveler). Bungie seems to be keeping alot of the ideas and concepts under wraps until the release in early September, however I'm curious to hear your theories and ideas. Post them here, let's have a chat.

  • The Traveler is God. The Darkness is Satin. The Guardians are Angels. The Fallen, Hive and Vex are Demons. The Speaker is the Prophet. The Last Safe City is Heaven. Hellmouth is Hell.

    • Based on the number of piled up cars outside the gate to Russia (which I would love to explore if we could go back) I have to wonder what was going on when we died. Like the Fallen or someone starting attacking and we were defending the people in this big battle while they evacuated. Also, I'm curious about that Guardian you see when you first get your ship. I'm starting to think we stole his ship. I think he is also the guardian who was on the moon spying on you from a distance

    • It's a big ball that the leader of the fallen pooped out and it turns out that it can be used in game to drop on fallen and kill them so u could walk around and drop the big white traveler on groups of fallen for croud control purposes

    • I think the traveller is a time capsule made by one or more ancient species to carry on their legacy before the darkness could fully wipe them out. It's main purpose was to find other species and advance their technology to the point they might defeat the darkness. But the darkness managed to destroy them before it was finished, hence its unfinished appearance. This species then sent the traveller away to fulfil its purpose where it wandered for millennia until it came across our solar system, but humanity was still in it's early stages. Then it waited on Mars until we were ready to handle the technology it contained and used us discovering it as a symbol that we were ready. Unfortunately, because it was incomplete and had been active so long, it was really low on power and used it's last amount of energy to move to earth where the last city would eventually be. It then released a massive swarm of ghosts which were the ancient species translators between the traveller and anyone that discovered them, humans then used them to advance to the golden age, where they created the EXO which was based on the ghost and spread out across the solar system and beyond where they eventually caught the attention of the the darkness. Humanity fled back to the last city and hoped to survive the collapse, anyone caught outside the barrier was transformed into the awoken. In the game, guardians will eventually be able to go to where the traveller was made and discover its energy source, the light, and plans for the travellers creation. There will then be a project to finish and reactivate it so that we can use it to finish off the darkness once and for all. The darkness itself is a sentient weapon that was created and used by one or more of the ancient species during a time of war but went incredibly wrong and viewed anything other than itself to be an enemy, any surviving species then began to create the traveller. The vex were a last ditch effort by this ancient species to fight off the darkness similar to our EXO, while the traveller was being made. After the work was done, the species fought on and eventually perished. The darkness then left, not realising that some vex were still 'alive'. They slowly rebuilt themselves and found that the darkness was 1000's of light years away. Since the technology of warping was deemed too inefficient the vex came up with a modified solution. They used the power of the light and the technology of warping to develop time and space travel, they then discovered that they could only go forward in time but it didn't matter to them. They used this technology to travel to the present day to complete their objective, destroy the darkness. Eventually they made contact with the other modern species but when they were met with gunfire, they returned gunfire as well. Their true objective is unknown to us until we travel to the vex home planet where the traveller was made. The vex were indifferent to us having the same objective and still warred on with us until the darkness is defeated and the vex return to their planet. The traveller is modified when it is being finished by humanity and it's objective is now to find other species and advance them as well, but not to fight the darkness, but to broker peace for all sentient life. I have now explained the origin of the game and it's ending. You're welcome.

      • Whatever it is, it seems to be sentient. Perhaps it is an enormous AI? Not sure how the 'space magic' that the Warlocks use would fit into that - though I suppose in the end all 'magic' is science.

            • Well the traveler created the Ghosts, which has greatly helped us out numerous times so far, so given that it's hard to believe the traveler is evil, or that the Ghosts are really gonna turn on us. But that's just an opinion. I do not however, trust the speaker who talks to the traveler. Guy looks mad shady. He wouldn't even dance with me, what a jerk.

Praise the sun

                • Here are some of my theories.. One being the traveller is good. Once it provided the fallen with unlimited resources, food, technology, and economy, but the then maybe all that power got to the fallen. Murder within the race for power and greed, and the whole fallen race turned into an evil planet. The traveller never intended for the fallen to turn into this, so it left. Another theory.. Maybe the traveller is just bad lol I dunno just theories really

It makes me wonder if the travellers presence was the reason why the hive came to be on the moon.. And how do they have ships? Did the traveller help them? Or are they indeed smart?

The traveler could be the cyborg from Bungie's earlier Marathon games. If the two game series are connected (which I am inclined to believe) it would make the last words of Marathon Infinity more clear as at the end (SPOILER) the AI Durandel tells the Cyborg: Now in the quantum moment before the closure, when all become one. One moment left. one point of space and time. I know who you are. You are destiny. Now if you hadn't noticed, the last word in the Marathon Trilogy is Destiny. I do not believe it is coincidence.

Edit: Just read up on the origins of the Traveler, it cannot be the Cyborg, it was discovered on mars.

I don't give a -blam- if it's an Everlasting Gobstopper or God's own Anti-Son-of-blam-Machine we're not going to let the Darkness have it! What we are gonna let it have is a belly full of lead and a puddle of it's own blood to drown in. Am I right Guardians?

                            • I read somewhere that the Traveler draws it's power from the Void. I think the Void is composed of the powers of Light, and of Darkness. The Traveler is an interdimensional being that comes from the Void, and was created by/with/in the Light. Servitors are like the traveler, only they are from the Darkness in the void. Light and Darkness are probably always in conflict, and there are probably more beings like the traveler. Unless, it is the last of its kind, meaning the Darkness is winning. The darkness wining might explain why the Traveler was hiding on Mars when the Humans found it. Waking it up could very well be what attracted the Darkness.
