Everyone's Most (un)favorite weapon! The Handcannon!!!
Packs a punch, six shots (sometimes 5!) and is your sidearm of choice...but it's a primary!?

First, I love pistols. I love the 'feel' of running around in games with pistols. Rather it be Halo, Call of Duty, Battlefield, GTA, whatever.
I was excited to see a revolver style gun, but they are just not on par with any other weapon class.
Yeah, they do a good bit of damage, but the reload speed and the recoil along with magazine really hinders it.
So, like many other have said. First, the Fire rate needs to be increased. This is in the future. Why is this not a double action revolver?

The hammer is pulled back to the cocked position.
At the same time, the cylinder is indexed to the next round.
The hammer is released to strike the firing pin.

This would allow it to fire a lot faster. Basically, as fast as you can pull the trigger. (Think: .44 From Call of Duty series)
That's really all you need to do. Increase the fire-rate and up the reload speed else offer a speedloader upgrade. [The upgrade for handcannon reload is pretty terrible.]
This would further allow the gun to not be considered 'overpowered' as it would still have the massive recoil and short magazine to make up for it. Range as well.
-- Just my two cents~

I played a lot of hand cannon. I think if anything just decrease the time it takes to reload. People say scout rifle is better but you got a better chance of one shotting with the hand cannon and getting rid of a bunch of weak enemies faster. Not saying it's better than scout rifle, it just depends on the situation. I do however feel awkward with any special and the hand cannon, none of 3 weapons really compliment it. I usually ran with shotgun and hand cannon.

it also needs more reserve ammo you run out way too easy.

The thing most people seem not to understand about Handcannons is that, in Destiny, they are precision weapons, meant for headshots, and not for obliterating the body of your foes.
