Every Destiny gamer I have come across loves the dancing mechanic. Using it as a "distraction" in the crucible, or a celebration at the end of a successful strike, etc.
(Reminder: This is an OPINION. This is not a personal attack on you for enjoying Destiny's dancing mechanic)
...But for me, this mechanic is a bastardization of what should be a serious game. Maybe it's my tendency to inject myself into my in-game characters, or maybe it's just how I have grown a distaste for the overused dancing mechanics in MMORPGs, but this dancing seems exceptionally out of place within the world of Destiny.
I know we have had, and will continue to have endless hours of fun with Destiny and the amazing worlds they create, but every time I'm wandering around Old Russia or the Tower and see a Guardian dancing... I am pulled out of my absorption into the game, and am made to feel like this is some sort of silly social club. The universe of Destiny is undoubtedly dark, inching towards hopeless if the Guardians fail at their duty... Yet some Guardians decide to have random dance parties on top of Lord Shaxx.
It doesn't make sense to me.
[roleplay]
In a world that is so intense, with comrades so driven by duty, honor and survival, it feels strange to me that dancing would be considered at all. You, my fellow guardians, feel free to dance, but you won't see me hanging around too much or dancing in the face of the darkness coming to crush our city. I'll see you out on the frontier.

Edited by FrostyOcelot: 7/19/2014 3:44:36 AMIt's an MMO. do u have any idea how many serious MMOs have dance emotes? look at it this way, even with the apocalypse happening people need to take time to rest, return to base, and unwind. many people do this by dancing and partying. It's kind of symbolic really. People party and slack off (and play videogames) even at military bases. as for people dancing in the cosmodrome or the crucible. you can't stop gamers from fooling around. if they can't dance they will teabag, melee their teammates....etc.
-
Then don't dance if you're so bothered by it. And who said this is 100% serious? It is called a 'game', that should be your first clue. Moments of levity are welcome even in the darkest of situations and times. I don't think you understand what being in a 'serious' scenario for extended periods of time even means.
-
Bungie said they wanted to give the world hope and they didn't want to make it too dark so dancing to have fun even in dark times was Bungie's plan.
-
Dancing lightens the mood, makes the game a bit more fun and funnier.
-
I tend to agree, mainly because I'd much rather bind consumables to the d-pad. I shouldn't have to open my inventory to use an ammo pack. I feel like they sacrificed some playability to put the emotes in.

Edited by Merdok: 7/19/2014 3:54:22 AM[roleplay] Enemy has developed a sinister new military tech. It's effects causes the victim to move it's limbs uncontrollably and with a surprisingly big amount of style. [roleplay done]
:)
Perhaps you are looking at dancing in the wrong light. You say it has no place in this dark and hopeless world. I disagree, the ability to dance shows that the Guardians have not lost hope, but that they hold on to it. The energetic movements of the Guardians showcase that all is right in the world, if only for a moment. So, I view the dancing as a reminder to the hope that we once had, and the hope that we shall have again. TL;DR Dancing shows that the Guardians still have hope in such a hopeless time.

I think it's there just to say "hey don't take things so seriously"
-
It's funny how serious you are trying to be
-
I like to think of dancing as the new teabagging. At least in the crucible, anyways. Also love me those dance parties!

I prefer sitting down. Especially in the crucible. Killing someone as the game ends and just sitting down next to them is much more satisfying.
-
Bungie said specifically the dance is in there because they want to remind the player that it's a game and it's supposed to be fun not something to stress over
-
Jesus lmao so funny that a dance mechanic is pissing people off so much. How large is the pole that's in your ass? Just give me a diameter.
-
According to your personal view, people around our REAL world shouldn't dance either...thought about that?
-
I respect your opinion, but it really isn't as serious as you're making it seem. Just remember that you're playing a video game and the dancing guardian has absolutely nothing to do with your actual life, nor does it have any actual effect that is detrimental to your gaming session (unless you're playing with teammates who are dancing instead of playing, in which case you leave the game and find a new one).
-
I couldn't agree more! I'm the type of player that takes their game for the experiences they are, and in a world of perpetual doom, dancing is the last thing on my mind! I wish it was an optional emote in the right setting. Like if there was an area for just dancing, like a club. Otherwise we are the elite, not children...

Why so serious?

Edited by SisterSafetyPin: 7/19/2014 4:15:51 AMIf Shepard can find time to hit up Chora's Den and Omega in the midst of the war to end all wars.... We can dance if we want to We can leave your friends behind Cause your friends don't dance And if they don't dance Well they're no friends of mine Say, we can go where we want to A place where they will never find And we can act like we come from out of this world Because you're one far behind
-
If I was brought back from the dead I would want to dance a little.
-
I feel like the D-Pad options are jUst a place holder and when the real game comes out there will be actual options that the D-Pad will use.

Edited by LoudMute13: 7/19/2014 4:28:38 AMMaybe the only movie to survive the apocalypse was Footloose... Maybe the Tower outlawed dancing and the had to go across the tracks to dance. Maybe one extraordinary guardian quoted the the sole remaining bible ,written in braille, and then the Traveler was like "Ok, you can dance but hell I better not see any twerking." Maybe its time...
TO DANCE
I think that dancing fits perfectly in a game with an antagonist called the darkness.
-
Didn't Bungie say that in this serious and dark setting, they wanted there to be hope? Aren't Guardians supposed to be the light in the darkness? So a bit of humor and dancing is good to me. Otherwise, it'd just be depressing seeing how far Humanity has fallen.
-
Sorry I had to.lol
-
It's a Bungie game. Not all of it is serious.
