The question becomes what implications are there for the peace process? One is hard pressed not to assume that for at least the short term, any chance of resuming talks has been dashed. Even the US is now calling for the dissolution of the unity government between Hamas and Fatah (res. 498 passed yesterday by senate) -- and let's be honest, no true solution can [b]ever[/b] be reached so long as Gaza and West Bank are ruled separately.

23 RepliesGood. This war needs to end or come close at least. However, this will most likely result in a large scale war with the rest of the Middle East, in which we will be involved in. Also, to all of you that think they understand war, civilian casualties are part of war. That's just how it works. When a war hardened country gets orders to missile strike a supposed rocket battery, they do it. The Hamas have killed more civis than Israel has with suicide bombs and rocket attacks. It's just not as good news as one Israeli gunboat that killed 4 kids because it had orders to. The gunboat didn't know they were kids. It happens. Look at all the kids that were killed by bombs in World War 2. But tell me, would you rather have a terrorist organization take over Israel? Or a country that is fighting for their home because WE put them there in the first place?

I posted many hours ago how this is hotter than the Russian Ukraine standoff. Israel needs peace. They haven't had peace in a long long time. We don't need multiple conflicts right now. We might have to step in for a peace intervention. This is when words are stronger than bombs. Someone needs to bring them together and talk it out. This is the part of diplomacy that is lacking for international crisis. We shall see what happens

Both sides have their flaws and both sides could have avoided this. It's just a hate fueled game with one side practically suicidal and the other a hardened people who will kill without hesitation.
