Let's Discuss In-game Clans, Specifically

So we now have the clan feature. You can be in two clans at once it seems- one on Xbox, and one on Playstation. I tested this myself as I am in one of each, though the first clan you join will be the clan you are taken to when you hit the 'clans' button on the left side of the screen. But the thing is... you can enter and leave a clan at will. I'm in the clans for my lovable huggable private group OTK, but here's the thing. What is stopping us from just joining a clan and leaving right away? See, clans have in-game bonuses when they have a certain number of people. That's all well and good. I'm curious if, say, for the clan raid achievements I have a group of friends. Could some of them just leave their clan if they are in a different one, join mine in around 5 seconds, then just rejoin theirs when we finish the raid? In which case there might not be as big a sense of community if you can join and leave at will, with no obligation or bonus granted. So the purpose of this thread is to discuss what you all think about that. Should people be able to leave and join at will, an unlimited number of times? Do you think there will be in-game bonuses if you stay in one clan for an extended period of time? Things like that. Everybody is so focused on discussing the site update in general that few people seem to be talking about the specific ways Bungie.net will affect Destiny itself. Hence this thread.

I am a founder of my own group and I don't know how to do that. I've looked on Bungie. Net and the Bungie mobile app. Do you have to have played Destiny to activate or create it or are is the Group system the clan system? Are clans and groups the same? All I want to do is to create a clan so I can have it all set up by 9-9-14. Can anyone help me please?

  • We've always been able to do that with groups so I don't think it a big deal.

    • I think that allowing people to leave a clan without obligations is fine, especially since right now so many are popping up. A lot of the clans created right now, most likely, will not be active for long. Being able to switch from a clan easily will be nice for people who find themselves in dead clans a month into the game. With all that being said there does seem some potential to abuse the system, which may just be a reality we have to live with.

    • My take on this is that many people are getting into the Clan culture through this game. Because of this Bungie thought it would be best to enjoy this feature without any obligations. Play the game the way you want to.

    • I will probably regret this, but I like how CoD Ghosts did it. You can Join/Leave a clan at anytime. The catch is certain bonuses are given at certain times, and only to those in the clan at that time. This way you cannot join the best clan and get a bunch of things unlocked for free.

    • I foresee some conflicts if one is unable to leave and join at will. It could go both ways, to be truthful. A loyalty or honor system doesn't sound bad at all, though.

    • I personally feel like people should be able to leave and join as many times as they like. That being said, I also think a sort of loyalty system should be in place for those who stick it out with one clan. Perhaps enhanced xp, glimmer, loot. Just.. something to make sticking with one worth it, y'know?

      • I like to have the option to leave at will, what if your clan just doesn't satisfy my needs anymore(it's not you it's me) shouldn't I be free to seek out other clans who are more willing to meet my needs? :p

        • I'm okay with being able to join/leave at will. It's as much the job of a clan leader to get people to say, as it is to recruit people. I'm sure there will be people who join, get an achievement, and leave. There were people who did that before, although it wasn't as official. Some sort of clan veteran-status would be cool, but honestly I just want customizable ranks back. I would kill for even a generic "moderator" promotion, just to have something between "member" and full-fledged admin. Then I could reward the long time members on my own. To be a clan requires a bit more structure than an off/on admin switch.

        • If you can leave and rejoin at will without penalty, then it'll be an honor system. It will be up to the community itself to want to stay with their clan to get those specific achievements. There will be a number of people who will want to stick it out for pride, but you just know there will be people who simply want the achievements (trophies) and will then head right back where they came from.
