On Bungie and the Community

This image is from their twenty year anniversary documentary. Having gone through stages of grief dealing with what seemed to be an abandonment (or at least an ignoring or perhaps a palpable reticence) regarding xbox gamers, and what felt at the time to be an almost insulting and apparently shameless embracing of playstation gamers, to (what seemed to be) our detriment, I found this little image appended to the end of the aforementioned documentary. I must say, it has, if not restored exactly, allowed me to relocate or reaffirm the faith I had in Bungie which I felt as I played their games thirteen years ago, as I followed the development of each new title adding to the incredible universe that was Halo, and especially as I followed the creation of Destiny from the very first leak (I nearly peed my pants every time a new nugget of information was released). I was reminded of how I, and many others, looked to the future that Bungie was bringing us; namely, the feelings of excitement, anticipation, and of course the sense of epic mystery which shrouds Bungie's worlds in an aura of impenetrable awe and wonder (which incidentally I feel 343 may have ruined a bit with all this forerunner stuff, but that's a different post...) Three years Bungie titillated its fans, old and new, with half-whispered promises of ancient powers, mysterious beings, incredible adventures just waiting to be experienced, and unbelievable new technology that would enable this magnum opus to become a reality. This was to be the game which "We always wanted to make". I can't deny the feelings I had watching Sony's presentation at E3, or other similar circumstances. But seeing this gave me hope again, enough to believe that, yes, Bungie does indeed love us, and if for whatever reasons (valid or not) certain of their fans are feeling 'ignored', or 'hated', or 'discriminated against'; though these feelings cannot be denied, the ones who created this game... no, created this world, hold dear in their hearts each and every one of us who has been a part of their community. They already acknowledge that they owe their success to us. Can we really believe that they would abandon us? We love them; for their games, their worlds, their stories, and for their love for their community. This is what defines Bungie, and if their actions at present aren't in sync with that which we are so familiar with, then there is probably more to the story than we can know right now. In the meantime, I think we will just have to trust in Bungie, and 'Believe'. Per Audacia ad Astra. (P.S. Bungie employees, if I'm right, feel free to stick a 'like' on my post :)
