I'm confused on how Destiny's story will work

Ok so I understand all the basics of Destiny but once I make my character and jump into action... What do I do? Is it a borderlands/skyrim type of thing where you have "main quests" and "side quests?" I'm just really confused on what you're physically supposed to do besides strike and other game modes. All answers would be greatly appreciated :)

  • So you know of Strikes. Once you gain access to these missions, you may replay them whenever you want and they will remain the same. As for the story... We don't know much. In the Alpha there was one story mission, which rather felt like a Strike, but with a much weaker boss. My assumption is there will be the Campaign, a set line of missions varying in type, from what we saw to missions that don't even have their own specified type, increasing in difficulty as you go.

The alpha gave me an idea of how it'll work: You play through the story and this gives you the main story missions, unlocks new cities/planets and co-op strikes. After you start a new area (or maybe after you complete the story missions there) you can also go there for 'exploration' and side missions. Alpha allowed matchmaking to find 2 co-op players to join you for strikes and exploration. I assume you can do the same with the story missions.
