I am considering an excursion to the land of (many of) my forefathers late this summer. The trip is a very conceptual thing right now but I'm curious as to what those of you who live in Britain (or have been to Britain) would recommend that I see or do (aside from Lonepaul's mom). I am particularly interested in any and all bits of history from any period, but especially dubya-dubya-deuce.
Recommendations and tips appreciated.

Well oi say oi say oi say. A yank wants to see the glory of britbongistan for himself! You can't go wrong with london :D Natural History Museum - My favourite place <.< British Museum - Basically a gallery of stuff we stole from the rest of the world in the glory days of the empire. Lol. Big Bong Ben. So you can witness the bloodshed at 6 BONG when the cricket bats come out. Our houses of parliament look cool but they are just as full of tossers as your senate/congress. The london underground so you can get robbed/stabbed by chavs. The london eye so you can see the shite from above! :D Although if you are looking for WW2 stuff then a few suggestions have already been made <.< And remember, if you make eye contact with a chav by accident - Scream 'SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED!' at the top of your voice until it goes away.

You should come to Scotland. Edinburgh has plenty of things to do. Or go to the highlands for spectacular scenery.

Raptor suggested Bovington for the tanks; it is also where the Royal Armoured Corps does its Phase 2 training so there is a fair chance you might see something on the roads for training I'd suggest the Imperial War Museum and the Imperial War Museum North (Manchester) for learny stuff too. There is a big memorial somewhere; probably London I was made to go the National Memorial Arboretum which was pretty good Prepare lots of money for London The North of England is irrefutably better though

If you're looking for history, a visit to Scotland wouldn't be a bad move. One can hardly move for all the castles and battlefields - so finding something that interests you should be a breeze.
