For those of you that don't know (although you probably do from the trailers) Activision is the publisher of Destiny. Bungie has a 10 year contract with them for the Destiny series.
You all know that Bungie is the creator of first-person shooter games like Halo and Marathon, and Activision is the publisher of the first-person shooter franchise known as (shudders) Call of Duty. Activision's shooters and Bungie's shooters are, in a way, at different ends of the shooter spectrum, and the latter is trying to achieve a combination of those spectrums.
There are things that go wrong, though. Remember when Activision fired Jason West and Vince Zampella from Infinity Ward? This could easily happen to someone beloved who works at Bungie as well, like, shall we say...
Marty?
But that's really the only bad thing I can think of at the moment. I ask you, those who are getting the game, are you comfortable with Activision publishing Destiny? If no, is there a different publisher that you think should do so, if you can think of one. I would say I'm a little concerned; I have high hopes for the game, but I wonder if there will be a conflict between the two companies, which would be easy to say if they were with a different company. If there was an alternative company, I would most likely want it to be Ubisoft, because I think they could use another FPS series outside of the Far Cry series. What are your thoughts?

-
As long as Activision doesn't have a say in the game, and just publishes it (funding, put games on the shelves, marketing, etc.) and doesn't try to influence bungie and just lets bungie do their jobs and make their game.
-
I'm going to be perfectly clear, I'm significantly more comfortable with this than EA publishing Battlefront 3. That has me really worried.
-
There's no way they're ever going to fire Martin O'Donnell. He's an absolute legend.
-
Dlc everywhere
-
Don't know much about Activision, but I think they're smart enough to realize Bungie will produce a better game if they give them breathing room. Now if EA was behind Destiny, I would be scared.
-
i am worried we're gonna get Destiny releases every year since Activision is the publisher, we all know what happened to Call of Duty
-
I'm sure it will be fine. Bungie has a phenomenal history and name, and Activision knows that.
-
The way I see it is that if activision can make CoD sell, imagine what they could do for a game that's actually good.
-
They've done well so far. ATVI baby
-
Yes, No, and Indifferent. Those should be the only poll options. The choices you gave are very obscure, and different people could interpret them differently. As someone who played MW2, yeah I'm worried. I'm not sure on all of the details, but most of Infinity Ward quit, and the game was never fixed. Of course Activision doesn't own Bungie, and I think ownership of Destiny is 50/50, but a lot can happen over the course of a ten year contract.
-
its just a partnership...Activision is handling the marketing, and Bungie is handling the game...thats it..nothing to worry about
-
Why not have Activision publish?
-
I'm not too concerned because Activision is also Blizzard and those guys know what they're doing when it comes to RPG/MMO type games, and keeping them interesting with expansions and the like. (I know destiny isn't a MMO) and I trust bungie to deliver the game that is their vision not activision's.
-
It actually can't happen like it did with Infinity Ward. Bungie owns the Destiny IP, Infinity Ward did not own the COD IP. Bungie didn't own Halo, which is why they lost it to Microsoft.
-
Could have been much worse.
-
As long as future installments of Destiny don't end up like what call of duty has become. I'll jump ship asap. And I'm in love with it so far.
-
I feel better about Activision in the driver seat without Microsoft calling out directions...
-
Activision knows how to make money, Bungie knows how to make great games. It's a win win for both of them. I don't see there being an issue.

They are just publishing it not actually making it
-
In the contract between Destiny and Activision. It clearly states Activision will have no input on the design/development side of the game. They're merely there for publishing/marketing.
You all know that Bungie is the creator of first-person shooter games
You do realize id software is the father of FPS genre. With Doom/Quake/Wolfenstein. Bungie just opened it up to a wider, console market.
-
I don't get why people care about publishers Activation doesn't make the game Bungie does Therefore
Idgaf
-
I noticed there was no "yes this is the best idea ever" or similar options. I chose the "yeah why not option" but all the ones that were not no were not definitely yes. Sorry if that was hard to read.
-
Perfectly. It's just a publishing deal. Not like with IW where Activision bought them and CoD.
-
I just hope they don't milk the hell out of it to the point where it dries up and becomes the opposite of fun.
Tony Hawk/Call of Duty are prime example
