My Girlfriend's Parents make her read a book a week...
Seriously!? A book a week? I know many people that would consider themselves bookworms do things like that but apparently her parents have actually MADE her read a book a week from the time she was young...
She claims she likes reading now and just does it on her own now but, my God, that seems excessive and way too controlling...

When you read a book a week, it's not [i]ugh, I have to read more.[/i] That seems like a huge strain to the eyes at worst, but she'll be fine as long as she takes breaks and has good lighting.

A book a week is nothing. I can go through a 500 page book in a day if I stick to it all day. I've done it before with novels reaching nearly 2000 pages total. Depends on how interesting the book is.

Strong language and reading comprehension skills are important, and will help you a lot down the road. And she knows the difference between "their, there, and they're", which automatically puts her above the denizens of the internet.

I usually stick to reading 2-3 chapters a day, no matter how hard it is to close the book.

And my parents make me say "Yes, ma'am," and "Yes, sir." -blam!- me, right?

That's considered punishment??? I just read the 'Eye of God" By James Rollins in about 5 hours, mainly because it was iced over outside.
