Are races purely for aesthetics only? And is there gender & personal customization?
I read here that the 3 usable races won't have any abilities/skills that make them really discernible from one another. This true?
Also, did Bungie state that Destiny will have extensive character customization seen in MMOs (gender selection, facial sets, etc.)?
Not sure if this was mentioned before but I haven't really found much info on this yet.

I could be wrong but I think they also said that the races move different too. Again could be wrong.

Bungie has confirmed they do not affect your gameplay mechanics.

i think like ralok they may be like some side quests to win cash.. we know there is gambling in destiny trading selling buying winning loosing maybe lending ..but races may also be for simple fun.. set a way point click (do you wish to race your partner ) yes .. may even have do you want to bet. (yes) select amount.. not only money gets bet on here. cloths weapons and such much more. race stuff in destiny is not the real bigy racing is just the tiny bonus of destiny.. so i say we let that one come when the time comes.. i'm sure bungie will sort it and talk about it with us as the public before the launch day..

I am tempted to believe there will be unique missions for each race.

And yes you are able to select gender, and there is facial customization for all 3 races so your character can be distinct. The factors that exist to directly affect gameplay, include Class, Focuses, Weapons, and Armour (as well as the skill trees and special abilities granted by each deepening your playstyle customization)
