Halo3Customs.com Public Beta

First of all I’d like to give a huge thanks to Halo3Customs co-founder BrilliantWinter – without you this simply wouldn’t have been possible and I’m really looking forward to us working together in the future. Today it is with great excitement that I reveal Halo3Customs.com to the community and announce that it has just gone into its beta testing phase! Here are a few of the features Halo3Customs.com offers you: * The ability to search for people who are online right now in Halo 3 playing custom games * The ability to filter your search results by gametype, skill range, and location (yes that’s right, you can now find other custom gamers local to you – no more lag!) * Bungie.net and Xbox.com stats right there on the page so you can see players rank and rep at a glance * Links to message players via xbox.com and add them to your friends list direct from our site This is probably a good time to remind you all that Halo3Customs has only just gone into its beta testing phase and so it is currently in its most basic form – we have got lots of really exciting features planned for the near future but until we hit v1.0 there will probably be lots of bugs so please bear with us and give us some time to work out the kinks. So, how does Halo3Customs work? When a user signs up their gamertag is added to our database. We then regularly check their stats on xbox.com and bungie.net to see exactly what they’re playing and update the information in our database. Then when a user searches for people playing Capture the Flag in the 30-40 level range who live in the United Kingdom a check is made against our database and a random selection of users is displayed (the list is random to prevent users getting spammed with 20 friend requests in the space of a minute). Simply click on one of the displayed results to be presented with a variety of stats and links to the player’s Bungie.net and Xbox.com profiles, as well as links to send the player a message via Xbox.com and to add them to your friends list. We limit our database to only registered users so that people who do not wish to be part of our community don’t get spammed with friend requests and also to limit your results to people that, like you, enjoy playing customs...a lot :). Right, enough of the boring stuff! Head over to www.Halo3Customs.com to register your interest! I've attached some screenshots below for anyone that's interested. Please note: A valid gold Xbox Live account is required to use our service and we will not be accepting members that do not fulfill this requirement. If you have any question or problems please contact STER3O@Halo3Customs.com or BrilliantWinter@Halo3Customs.com. • Hey guys, my punishment ends on the 16th and hopefully I will be able to get back to work on the site, no guarantees about how fast I will work tho, and I talked with STER3O a little bit, thank goodness he is still on board with the whole thing. so start expecting a couple updates shortly. Sorry about the long wait tho! damn, this laptop is so slow, so I will leave you with that, thanks for the interest!

 • Ow, that's too bad FatalShot, because in my opinion, your site is waaaay better than H3customs.com for the fact that you can see who is playing customs right this very moment as opposed to having to plan and organize the time you play a match on H3customs.com.

 • Just a quick reminder, DeucesWild16 is still in the database, even though its an invalid tag. Was it because someone changed their tag and the database couldn't handle it?

 • I agree, a sticky would be nice. Sorry, for my plethora of ideas, but here's another one for you. I realize you guys are busy. Since it takes a while to update, how about a "I'm online right now, so refresh my status" button. That way, if you make a game, you can refresh your status so you don't have to wait 15 minutes for the site to see that you are in a game.

 • I was curious, do you guys refresh the online users more often than the offline users? If you don't, I would highly recommend doing that. It's a much smaller set of gamertags to scan more often, and users would appreciate the higher fidelity of the information of games they are trying to join. Just my recommendation :)

 • Ah, I see, the refresh link is in the middle text. Kind of hard to see, and its only there when it hasn't been updated recently.

 • Okay, I must be blind, but I don't see the "Refresh User" button. I see a repeat search button. Do you mean to just reclick on their name on the right? I assume that reloads their stats.

 • Uh oh, the status pages seem to be down for a few minutes. It failed to load the HTTP request for the status page. It looks like Duncan's backend server glitched for a little bit. Here's the error message in case you were interested: Warning: fopen(http://xxxxxxxxxx.net/services/GetXboxInfo.aspx?GamerTag=MVG999) [function.fopen]: failed to open stream: HTTP request failed! HTTP/1.1 500 Internal Server Error in /home/killthrr/public_html/halo3customs/class/xml.php on line 122 But it went away after a few minutes. So I don't know if they were doing something quick to the backend server or what.

 • Also, you seem to have a DeucesWild16 that is always listed as joinable in the lobby, yet its not a valid gamertag. I assume its something that was left in during the debugging process.

 • Hey guys, really sorry for not being on for a while, both STER3O and I are overloaded with work and life. STER3O just moved and has to work a lot, and I am still in school (grade 12) and falling behind as well as I work and am starting a company soon. we are gonna try and work on it as much as possible tho, and thanks for the interest guys! I have made the search so it searches for joinable by default, and as for the "bug" that is actually just lag, we cant update the online users as fast as we would like so it does have up to 15 minutes of lag, that is why we added a refresh button on user profiles, clicking it will actually update their profile on the site for everyone we are also gonna get a description and such when we hit version one (new layout and all that jazz, speaking of which, if anyone is interested in doing a layout for us, please send us an email (put both of us in the send to) at brilliantwinter@halo3customs.com and ster3o@omnicide.co.uk)

 • Oh hey guys, I found a bug. It seems that those who are in the matchmaking lobby are showing up in the browser. At least the Xbox.com stats say they are in the matchmaking lobby. I don't know if its just a lag on the site in updating their status (ie. they were in a custom game lobby, but then switched to matchmaking) or if you guys were listing them because they were joinable in the lobby. Anyway, I thought I'd let you guys know. Sheesh, it seems like I'm talking to myself here. Anyone else like the site?

 •
Posted by: chiefs3 beutiful job guys, you two have most likely changed the way custom games are going to be played.
Yeah, I think they should get the Recon armor for their work. But Bungie did axe the in-game browser so they may not give it for this.

 •
Posted by: AuroraAlphaHL2 By the way, if we log out of the site or play something other than Halo 3, will it hide our online status? I don't want a bunch of random messages and random people joining me all of the time. If not, could you possibly add a feature in a later version that requires you to sign-in to the site first if you want other players to see your status? Or, could you make it mandatory to search for people who are joinable? The main thing I am worried about is that people can look for people busy playing their own customs, which leaves them open to getting spammed. Thanks.
You can create your party to not be open to the public, (Friend or Invite Only). Then you won't appear as joinable. Most should browse only for those that are joinable. So you won't get too many people trying to request in to your game. In fact, they should make the joinable selection on by default.

 • I think you guys need some kind of welcome/description of the site when unregistered users first get to the homepage. Right now its pretty empty, and may turn off users from giving away their gamertag. Maybe a synopsis pulled straight from the first post of this thread would do it.

 • Very nice website, thanks STER3O and BrilliantWinter! This topic needs to be stickied. By the way, if we log out of the site or play something other than Halo 3, will it hide our online status? • I think this is much better cos u can join games straight away. The vast majority of ppl don't want to 'book' a place in a game days ahead which might in the end not happen. Using this site means you can host a custom game, invite some freinds and allows other people you might not usually play with. The sight also gives ppl a helping hand on getting to the custom games 'ladder'. I.e. once you have one freind who plays large customs you can make new freinds playing customs and have a wider selection of games.

 • Oh, and why are you guys still in beta? The site looks great and seems to be perfectly usable right now. It looks like version 1.0 to me.
