Chromebook. If all you're doing is typing shit, and watching movies it's all you need. Mine even came with 3 years of online storage(100gb). Asus also makes decent laptops if you like the traditional windows experience. Personally, if I had the budget, I'd buy a Chromebook pixel just for the 1tb of online storage it comes with. You're just prepaying for the online storage if you do the math(oh, and you get a free laptop). If you're gaming, a desktop would be ideal, if you're dead set on a laptop, Asus makes some decent ones.

13" Macbook air if you like the OS. If you want to game as well get a MSI GS70.

Apple products are the best but way overpriced Definitely go for a MacBook Pro or Air But those are premium toys If you're more of a budget laptop guy then I'd recommend Samsung These guys make good shit man They're not far behind Apple but definitely way cheaper The series 9 is good And the Ativ Book 8 is a good all around 15 incher The Ativ book 6 is also on par with the Ativ book 8 Also the toshiba tecra Z and tecra R are good work laptops I would put my money on Lenovo Their U530 is good thin and light The S431 is also good

Edited by Bistromathics: 1/18/2014 8:41:41 PMThe answer depends on your budget, since your needs are pretty basic. For school, you need productivity software and a web browser. A $250 Chromebook can meet those needs. So can a $999 Macbook Air. The Macbook Air lineup tend to be good choices if you can afford them. The 13" model would be my pick. + Battery life (13 hours) + Super portable (like -5 pounds) + Decent performance (SSD, optimized software) + Comes with all the software you need (iWork, Safari) - Low resolution display for the price (900p) - Low storage capacity (max of 256GB) - Compatibility issues (due to MacOS) - Pricey ($1099)

What kind of school stuff do you plan on doing?

For gaming go with PC, for business/school stuff...go for Mac.

Macbook Air 2013 (I don't have one but used one, and it's really good)
