What is there to defend?

The bottom line of the spying issue is that it helps no one; not the country, not the peace, and most certainly of all not you. yet in the related thread I see people bending over backwards trying to defend it for literally no reason at all - why? And saying "I don't care" in this case is the same as saying "I support it"

  • I have nothing to worry about for my own well-being since I have nothing to hide, and I haven't committed a crime. I can see why it's concerning for some, but for many of us in this forum, if not all, shouldn't have to really worry about it unless you downloaded child pr0nz or have some type of device or information on how to completely destroy the government. Should you worry about things such as your credit card information, or your social security? It'd be stupid to say "No" about that, but think about it this way: What are the chances (Assuming you're in America) that you are being specifically targeted to be abducted, interrogated, or even put into a federal prison for attempting a coup against the government? A healthy dose of concern is alright. However, paranoia builds up to a pretty crappy host at parties.

    • I think the are completely miss understood. NSA (national sex advisers) They watch you do it so that they can later give you advice/tips/tricks. They're really nice people.

      • Go post about all this stuff on Facebook. Then go out on the street and spout it out. After all, if the Government is spying on you, anonymity here isn't going to help you. So the fact that most people feel safe saying this stuff only on anonymous websites seems a bit silly to me.

I think that there has been a huge misconception of what the NSA's cell phone record spying actually does. What the NSA DOES see is everything that known terrorists do, the information of anyone who calls those terrorists, and the metadata (which includes zero personal information) of phone records. The only thing that metadata tells you is the phone number, the number it called, the date that it called, and various other technical information. That's it. The NSA CANNOT listen in on phone conversations without a court order. If people freak out over their phone numbers being collected, I'll just let you know that there are multiple businesses out there whose sole purpose it is to collect all home and cell phone numbers. Why is this legal? Because your phone number is actually in public domain. Don't believe me? Well so is your home address. And your PO box. Those are all public domain. I mean what the hell do you think a phone book is? Now there are certain privacy issues that can arise because not just anyone can go to your house or call your phone, but nonetheless anyone can look them up. Why is the NSA so different?

                    • So if I say "I don't care", you have the right to tell me that I'm supporting it? No, it's called being neutral. Not everything is black or white; not everything must spark a flamewar.

                      • I'm not defending the spying, I'm defending my apathy towards it. There's a big difference.
