I would like the ability to Subscribe to, and Unsubscribe from, any post in a thread. Subscribing to a post would cause you to receive notifications when that post gets replies, as if you were the author. Subscribing to a post should also subscribe you to any subsequent replies (unless created by a muted user), so that you can remain in the conversation as it expands, but not cascade down through existing replies. Now, lets say part of a conversation is heading down a path you don't care about. That's where the unsubscribe comes in. At any point in a conversation, you should be able to unsubscribe and stop receiving notifications on that post, or any child posts. An unsubscribe should cascade down through all existing child posts. I personally would like replying to a post to automatically subscribe me to that post. But I could see some users not wanting to get so many notifications. So what I'd like to see is a user configurable setting where I can choose between Auto-Subscribing to: The post I replied to, My own post, or None.
