So, with the recent release of the Game Informer Destiny issue and Game Informer Features a lot of new Destiny information has come to light. We now have a basic understanding of how most of the game works and its various elements. So....
- Name something you theorized/speculated that turned out to be right.
- Name something you were dead wrong about.
- Name an element of Destiny that surprised you.
** Please remember, we are discussing game elements and gameplay. This is NOT a thread about launch dates, the beta or console exclusives. I'll start:
I was right about abilities being bundled together. I had a feeling that certain perks would come as a package deal.
I was wrong about builds and focuses (foci). While I theorized that abilities would come bundled together, I GREATLY underestimated the depth and interchange-ability of "sub-classes". I assumed you had to start a new character each time.
I was surprised and excited by the competitive multiplayer map design. Verticality, shifting environmental features, basically dynamic set pieces.... brings a whole new level of strategy to gameplay. Much more interesting than straightforward "destructible elements" or the static elements we've seen in most Halo maps.
Those are my three. What are yours?

I was right about the max party size of 6 though I really hope there is an option for larger party size with a "customs" lobby. I was wrong about classes being limited to certain builds (i.e. sniper, cqc, assault) and finding out that even a Warlock can be proficient with a sniper rifle. I was surprised that more information wasn't given about the "Void" Focus but instead only mentioned "Void Warlock Sniper build". That one has my interest piqued. I wonder just how many different foci there will be for each class.... I'll guess six and see if correct at a later date, lol. :)

I was right about my theory that exotics would be limited. I was wrong on my theory of the Awoken. I thought they were some kind of spectral ghost like beings. I was surprised to find out that the Exo's are self aware machines. I thought they were cyborgs.

Edited by FairlySplendid: 12/10/2013 7:59:33 PMSince we recently learned a bunch of new info about competitive, I figured i would bump this. Not to toot my own horn (toot, toot) but I turned about to be right about PvP's presence in the game. I had a strong feeling that PvP grinding would be counterproductive. I was surprised by the change to game-chat. Though it makes sense and I agree with their line of reasoning. Between this and XBL's new rating system, griefters and trolls are going to find online gaming is a lonely place.

Edited by RyzingThunder: 12/9/2013 2:38:26 AMI was right about how some exotic weapons would have special effects. I was wrong about thinking factions affected your character greatly with stats I was surprised that you can venture under mars by entering the top of the abandoned skyscrapers that lie mostly under the sand
-
-I was right when I made a speculation that the awoken were people who were changed because of what almost wiped out humanity.

I was right about the public event, since the first info of Destiny revealed by Bungie, I've been imagining a public event like that. I was wrong about many things, the enemies, the weapon system, the HUD, the reticule/aim down sights, the type of weapons, the space magics, and others I was surprised of the scale in Destiny, the wall, places to explore, everything
-
Hmmm... I was right about the Hive, they're definitely not Space Zombies :) I was wrong about Specials. I assumed that they were a mix and match Armor Abillity system where you choose a Super, a Secondary abillity, and a Passive Abillity, but as it turns out all three abillities come as a package with the Focus system in addition to melees. I was surprised by the design of Closing Time. At first I thought it was going to be horrifically broken, but I thought about it more and I realized just how strong of a design it was. If it's any indication of the other exotic weapons in the game, I have plenty of reason to be excited :)

I was hoping that you would be able to get all exotic armor and weapons but you can only use one piece of armor and one weapon. I like this because this makes it so that no one person will be over powered

Wanted space combat. Did not get it. I'm a pilot I want to fly my ships

Edited by HollowLing: 12/7/2013 10:12:48 PMI didn't think the armor pieces would have special attributes besides stats, also I didn't think there would be a limit on exotic gear. This should be interesting (I was right Destiny will).
