Weapons should track their own kills.

Since there is trading and selling being looked at for Destiny's economy there has to be intrinsic value associated with items being traded by the players. Now Bungie has stated that weapons and gear will have perk trees assigned to them that unlock as you use them. But here's a proposal for a feature that could help in the sales of these weapons and that is weapon stats and much like how a player gains ranking then perhaps each weapons and armor can attain this symbolic value as well as the player engages in Destiny's MP and PVE. So a MP players walks into a game and kills 20 players in a match and the gun retains the info much like how our own stats and history worked in Halo. Now it would gain value as the gun retains the player emblems and names of the foes it was used on. Can you imagine the bidding war on a gun that took down a celebrity in the competitive arena? Now the Player gets tired of his Duke and decides to sell it on the market. It's maxed out on the perk tree and has a notable MP history. I think the players who fell to it should be notified its on the market place for sale before every one else. If they buy it they can remove their own emblem and name from said weapon. Keep it or put it back on the market but now you have this driving emotion to keep an eye out for this weapon if you're one of the remaining 19 players who got popped by this gun. Now you'll have some bidding going on if this means these players specific to this weapon can claim it to remove their emblem. I believe that those remaining 19 players should be notified first and given a say a couple hours head start on the bidding process. When the hours up the gun is fair game on the open market. This could also work on PVE where the gun also retain mission history and locals of bosses it dispatched maybe giving maps of the locations and fortresses it's been in. There would have to be some sort of driving force or information for PVE players to purchase said weapon. The Player selling it could put in a disclaimer. This gun as been to Hellmouth and back. Need a map of the sixth floor only x amount of glimmer and it's yours. So beyond the perk tree what would make you buy some standard affair starting weapon?

  • Another idea: Weapons retain "history" on them, you can see where your first guns are now and which players have them. Imagine that every weapon is engraved to the gamer that first obtains it. When it is passed, sold or traded to another Guardian, their name is added to the list. What if you come across certain weapons that were once owned by elite players, Bungie Employees, bungie.net community members and even custom large scale public events (such as future Bungie Days)? What if these weapons that were once owned by renown players sold at a higher value, or much rarer to find and get? I think it's great the idea you're onto and will make weapons a unique piece of everyone's arsenal.

  • I believe the will imply something like this because your gun levels up and they want each to be meaningful parts of the game and not just a gun. But it would be super amazing if they went into the level of detail your stating. I really loved the idea

  • I could not agree more as it will individualize each weapon but obviously have total kill s and a total stats page with amount of pvp k/d and another with story kd. Stats will be n8ce to see to watch yourself progress into a legend

  • I don't know about what you've said, but I do know that the longer you use a weapon , the more you get out of it .

      • Thats an amazing idea mate, I'd really love to see Bungie implementing it, or at least some ideas of it to the game. I'm really trying to think about something to add up to your idea but I think its perfect the way it is right now.

        • For novelty sake, sure... why not. Though I don't think there should be any reason to notify players that an item with their name is being put on auction. Imagine playing multiplayer for a week... and then you suddenly start getting a neverending flood of messages notifying you that a gun with your name on it is being sold in the auction house... Furthermore, what is the point of having weapons record kills if you give players the ability to strike their name off of the list. And what about teamkilling? Should a gun record when it was used to kill an ally? Or in areas of the global world that allow free for all pvp? Should it also record how many times you murdered your fellow Guardians in cold blood? I mean, seriously... "This gun has killed 27 rabbits, 42 rats, 7 birds, 57 Fallen, 12 Fallen Captains, 4 Devil-walkers, 23 Cabal, 3 Cabal-tanks, 56 Hive Grubs, 12 Hive Warriors, 2 Hive Queens, Hobbes92(Ally) 2x, DEZARATH 1x, Hobbes92(enemy) 4x, (47 additional player names in pvp), exc...." Even in a 4v4 or 6v6 pvp game... I'll typically die 5-10 times and get 20-40 kills in a 15 minute game. And I'll typically play for 2-4 hours a day... for 4-5 days a week. even lowballing it, that's 128-480 people that will get my name on one (or more) of their weapons in a week. IN A WEEK!!! Even if I kept all the same weapons for a week, that would leave me with 128-480 names being added to MY weapons in that same week. Even if, for some reason, that was an even split between my weapons... that is a LOT of names to keep track of. A LOT. Now lets say that you have been playing PVE for a little while... you have some decent weapons... Now lets say that it's gonna be a month or so before you end up finding any weapons worth replacing your current weapons... Thats upwards of 1,600 individual gamertags to keep track of, and easily three times as many NPC kills to keep track of. The logistics required to keep a 'kill count' for every single weapon in the game? Seriously? You'd be wasting massive amounts of server strength and bandwidth on something so insanely trivial.

          • It would also be cool if it stored the GTs of all of its previous owners too. Imagine how weird it would be trading for a gun them finding out ITT used to be owned by someone you know.

            • Also... When you sell a weapon, the tech-tree of the weapon should be reduced to zero for the person who buys it. Considering that the tree is suppose to represent your growing skills and familiarity with the weapon. And since any 'other' improvements made to the weapon would likely be attachments which could be removed... I don't see why a weapons value would go up just because its 'more used' than any other version of itself.

            • The history and stat/record keeping idea sounds interesting, to sell it to PVE players though, aside from monetary value or something, it would have to show a lot of efficiency for dealing with one particular enemy type/species.
