Master Chief; The Last Spartan... or is he?
There has been requests for a thread dedicated to the discussion of the possibility of more then one Spartan appearing in Halo 2. Well, here it is. Lets try and keep post in this thread limited to ones that say more then, "THAte wuld r0xxor!!1!"
You are encouraged to discuss the pro's and cons of having multiple Spartans, and the options or limitaions that would arise from such an addition.
There have been arguements on whether there are 1 to 10 Spartans left, but all we have is speculation.

It would be cool if there was more, but MC is the main character and more spartans would take the spotlight off him. so I guess he sould be the only one. I believe that to make the halo story continue with its modern day hit, would have some more spartans.

If you read the Halo books you'd know the exact number of Spartan II's remaining. I read the last book about two months ago and I'm not exactly sure (don't feel like getting the book) but I think there's 4 Spartan's remaining (including MC and Kelly).

Theirs Fred,Will,John, and Kelly left. Though Dr.Halsey kidnapped Kelly, so god only knows what their doing ;)

There are a total of 5 active spartans at the end of [i]Halo:First Strike[/i]. Kelly is off with Dr. Hasley, though, so that leaves 4 spartans at the beginning of Halo 2. Convenient, no? [b]EDIT:[/b]: Serpent, you forgot Linda. [Edited on 4/15/2004 11:40:20 AM]

The newest Halo novel (First Strike) covers what happens right when halo explodes until the begining of halo 2 where the covenant are attacking earth. Well at the end of First Strike there are five Spartans remaining. Those five Spartans are:John, Linda, Fred Will,and Kelly. But Kelly was taken by Dr. Helsey on a seperate mission. It seems to me that there will definately be more Spartans in Halo 2 if the current books hold their ground. In the book "First Stike" I believe four other Spartans might make it home with the Master Chief, (sorry if Im off a little I dont have access to the book right now) and then Dr. Hasley and Kelly went to an undisclosed location where they might come accross more Spartans in training or possibly cloned Spartans. So if the books are any indication to the possible future prediction to Halo 2, then there is a definate chance there will be more spartnas. And realizing how awsome bungie is at making stories so dramatic and butt clenching suspensful, they will probably show up when the possibility of surviving is almost nonexsistant. Like a dramatic battle then all of the sudden a couple of pelicans drop in and 30 plus spartans roll out and help you clean house, then at that moment we all have to hit pause because we most likely wet ourselves in excitment...

I always thought that there was something there with him and Kelly in Fall or Reach, but it was a bit different in First Strike.

*SPOILERS* Ok, four Spartans survived the book First Strike. Three with the Master Chief and one with Dr. Halsey. The three Spartans alongside of Master Chief, headed to Earth to inform UNSC High Command that the Covenant have discovered the location of Earth and have amassed a huge fleet with one purpose, cut the Humans off at their homeworld and mop up the remnants that may be left. And that's where the book ends. Ok, we can conclude that the Covenant have already arrived at Earth before the Spartans could warn them, judging from the Announcement Trailer for Halo 2. This opens up an option for the Campaign in Halo 2. I think that Bungie may have made it so that three Spartans survive and go to Earth with Master Chief, and that reason is Four player Co-op mode. I know, it may sound a little out there but it's a possibility. Or, it could mean that it's just normal 2-player Co-op and the second player gets to choose between the other three Spartans to play as (I would choose Fred). And each Spartan has a role to play in Halo 2 cutscenes. I know this is a little out there but that is my deduction. What do you guys think? [Edited on 4/15/2004 11:51:36 AM]

You think it's out-there? I think it's painfully obvious what's going on. Not to mention that Brute Force had 4 player co-op (as well as ghost recon), I see no reason for Halo 2 to not have it as well.

I think that some of the people who don't think that Bungie could make it four player Co-op think that it is out there.

John, Linda, Fred, & Will... with Kelly "MIA" under the thumb of the Dr. This leaves us with 4... And since John is a Master Chief... it would take nothin away from hm to have other Spartans in game.

Also, what if you can choose from the 4 Spartans in your mulitplayer profile?!?! (as well as game profile) They have slightly different assets...

i think there are 5 spartans remaining bcuz awhile back in xbm they had a halo 2 issue and it came with a poster including 5 spartan II's on it, hmmmmmmmmm

that's almost a given as well. The spartans got upgrades from Dr. Hasley before the book was finished. So, Lind will probably be the best at long range, especially with a sniper rifle (maybe a bit of friction when aiming or a faster reload). WidowMkr, I realize that at the end of the book there are only 5 left. However, I have seen arguements that there are as many as 10 left, they aren't good ones, but they are arguements non-the-less.

I think that they might also introduce squad based gameplay with MC as the main character and the other spartans as the squad memebers

I doubt there will be different character sizes, if there are different characters at ALL. We don't want another "Odd-Job" running around.

I think Bungie had that part about the 5 Spartans put in there for a reason, I think there will be some type of involvement with other Spartans in Halo 2.

I have read all the books more than once but its been a while since I thought about halo:the fall of reach. I can't remember where chief petty officer mendez went to. anyone know?
