Dated August 28, 2013: This is an interview with Jim Ryan, President and CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE).
In this article he briefly clarifies that Destiny will have timed exclusives on Playstation as well as hardware bundles of some sort.
He also explains the relationship between Activision, Destiny, and Playstation. Basically, their desire to offset the Xbox/COD push with a PS/Destiny push.
Here are the standout quotes:
Another publisher, Activision, has (and will continue to) release map packs first on Xbox for their Call of Duty games, but when it comes to Destiny, PlayStation will be king, as Jim explained:
"We’ve carefully selected titles where we feel it’s appropriate to partner with a third party. So Activision, yes, are doing stuff on Call Of Duty with Microsoft. However, we are partnering with Activision on Destiny. And you know Destiny is a new IP from Bungie and there’s gonna be stuff that is exclusive to the PlayStation SKU for a window of time and there’s gonna be a lot of PlayStation-branded marketing collateral and there’s gonna be PlayStation hardware bundles."
Delving deeper into the advantages of partnering with a new IP, Jim added:
"So, Destiny isn’t a launch title but it’s pretty much an exact offset to what Activision is doing with Microsoft and I would argue that as new IP coming from Bungie I would rather be in a position of having a long term relationship with Activision on Destiny than on Call Of Duty, which has obviously been around for a very long time."
I would have gotten the Xbox one but I saw a article where they said they would bring back drm
Spencer does believe in listening to customer feedback, which is why Microsoft now uses what he describes as "physical DRM" - the disc - as well as digital DRM. But Spencer's clear on one thing: Microsoft wants to create the digital ecosystem that was announced at launch, and which will be coming to all customers eventually. So those of you who wanted to see the next generation console you thought Microsoft was selling will see it eventually. Just not right away.
Edited by Eagles2910: 2/14/2014 4:12:28 AMDon't get me wrong CoD is good but I think it would be better if Xbox One and PS4 customers got DLC at the same for both games.
-
K so xbox will get all the same DLC's just in more time? Please answer
-
Thanks for the info, as much as i want to play destiny early, ps gamers deserve a chance to see one of Bungie's upcoming majesties. I just wish Activision and Infinty ward or treyarch or sledgehammer were a little more creative like before (zombies, spec ops, extiction is bwahh) so xbox gamers can be pleased with COD early dlc.

Seems fair i suppose

Bundle....now i wonder whats in the bundles.
-
Really sucks that Xbox one won't get a hardware bundle...was really looking forward to it and now I am extremely disappointed
-
Edited by Arete Seven: 8/29/2013 6:23:10 PMI don't see why people are upset about this. Xbox users get things as they normally would. PS4 users get a few things early, as promotional items to help market the game to players who just barely know Bungie as the makers of that one Halo game they've heard about (or played a couple of times), to lock in a place for themselves in the Sony market.
-
Does anyone know how long before it comes out on Xbox? I read somewhere that with cod it will be released a month earlier so will that be true with destiny? I'm hoping that's not true. A month is a long time.
-
who cares about who gets map packs early, its never even very long. its not like people are going to buy a playstation if they already pre ordered an xbox to play a few weeks early or buy an xbox one if they already preordered a ps4 just to get cod maps a little early. NO ONE CARES COMPANIES!!!! USE YOUR MONEY ON GETTING BETTER THINGS FOR YOU CUSTOMER!!!! THINGS WITH MEANING!!!!!

Thabks for the update friend I've been wondering about this exclusive business for a while. I think Activision has screwed the Xbox over here COD is no were near as interesting as a story built epic like destiny is bound to be, and Im Ashamed Microsoft was willing to nearly sell there console to the devil to be locked with EA. but yet doesn't lock in the chance to at least give its community first demand on content from bungie?!
-
Timed exclusives? Does that mean i can look foward to a cape with the plastation symbol on it?
-
Timed Exclusive? Myths destroyed, favoritism eradicated, equality rebalanced, day uplifted, faith in humanity... getting better.
-
Well, as long as the Destiny exclusive content on PS4 is for a period of time then it goes on Xbox, I'm set. I'll be getting it on Xbox One either way, but happy to know I can get some of that content to! Lucky PSbros, I hope they enjoy it and give it good reviews sows can get excited for it.
-
I don't blame bungie for this I blame MICROSOFT THOSE FOOLS
-
It's nice to see the PS community getting in on the early access. I'm an Xbox guy and will be one for when I play Destiny but I can understand why Bungie is showing the love to the PS community it's a good welcome to Destiny/Bungie idea i dont mind any of this and i think weve all had enough time to get used to the idea. Well folks see you starside.

Truth.

Go figure, Microsoft just had to pick the game of the screaming little kids.

Is there any further information out about what "hardware bundles" entails? I am thinking controllers or peripherals of some sort , but a console package would be nice for those not planning on picking up a PS4 till next spring anyway.
-
Bump for those with goldfish memory.

With console exclusives no one wins, none of this helps the consumer.
