NSA & XBOX: What's the big deal?

So, I don't think it's any big secret that privacy has been in the news a lot lately. From NSA "leaker" Ed Snowden "revealing" that the government has been tracking and recording virtually every instance of telecommunication, to the "always on" issues being raised to Microsoft regarding their XBOX One Kinects. I guess what I'm trying to say is... ...what's the big deal? 'They're taking away our privacy!', you say. But I say, and what? I am a very reclusive person. I don't really like people. I'm not big into crowds or human interaction in general. But honestly, I feel like I would be willing to give up my privacy IN A HEARTBEAT if it meant that or my safety. And for the record, we're not even close to that level of invasion. People seem to forget that we live in a post Watergate world. THAT'S right, the damned President of the United States was behind that hullabaloo. How have people NOT been assuming that the government is already watching us at all times?! So why is it now, suddenly, a big deal? And before you say 'That's what they said bout Hitler in the beginning', keep in mind, the president isn't going out on a balcony in front of masses of chanting Americans and declaring war against terrorism (he probably couldn't even rally his own party members, if he wanted to). In fact, the only time I can recall hearing about authorities using records obtained (which, of course, I cant find the article about when I actually need it) was when they asked Verizon to give them access to their cloud storage because child abusers were storing pornography of under aged children on their network. Call me a conformist, BUT IM OKAY WITH THAT! I mean, at what point is safety more important than privacy? And why are people so surprised/paranoid because one dude confirmed what we all already believed from the beginning? Thoughts?
