nylon "550" Paracord?
is the stuff really more useful than regular rope or is it overly expensive gimmick rope?
also, how do you tell if it's milspec(Mil-C-5040H) or not?

It's pretty strong. My BSA troop uses it a lot. I don't know if it's worth the price, but I'm fairly certain it's stronger than regular rope.
