HIPSTERS!!!

No, I'm not talking about the meme version (i.e. the square frame glasses, carhartt's, red flannel shirts, tattoos, scarf in the middle of July, irony out the wazoo), I'm talking real hipsters. There really seems to be some controversy as to what a hipster really is, so let me give you my definitions (to hopefully clear some things up) and see if that helps. I've based these largely off of the Idea Channel video about it (this is a good video and channel. Subscribe) A hipster, as I define it using said video as reference, is a person who appropriates things that have a value in a certain culture (ex. Nerds) as their own, paying no heed to what it means and using it only because they like it. Now, a good hipster will not just use stuff because they like it, but will also get try to tell people about what they like and hopefully get them interested too; a bad hipster does the exact opposite – they do things because they like them and will try to keep others from doing or enjoying those things. The bad hipster is exemplified in the meme hipster. "You've probably never heard of them.", "I wore flannel shirts before they were cool.", or, "They're too mainstream for my taste.", are bound to come out of the mouth of a bad hipster, because, like Gollum, they want to keep their precious, whatever it may be, to themselves, not wanting to share it with anyone. TL;DR: Hipsters really just do things they like, and only the bad ones fit the same mold as the meme hipster. So, thoughts? Questions? Snide remarks? Lets hear them!
