He coughed and then shouted at Mabian, "We have to get to higher ground!" Mabian nodded and followed Pezza as he rushed across the plaza. Suddenly, another figure leaped from the smoke and brought Pezza to the ground. Pezza rolled over until he was on top of the attacker. When he saw the man's face, he stared in shock, "Ash? What are you doing?" "Killing you," Ash replied with a smile, "What does it look like?" He slid a knife from his pocket and stabbed upwards, but Pezza got his hand down in time to stop the blow. Ash growled and then pushed his feet up, throwing Pezza off. Pezza rolled away, putting distance between him and the other Mod. Ash was about to rush forward when two arms wrapped around his neck. Mabian through the Mod to the ground and then shouted to Pezza, "We don't have time for this. Find Twitch and stop him!" Pezza nodded in gratitude and then took off running. Ash stood up slowly and glared at Mabian, "You should have ran with the others. Then you might have survived." Mabian shrugged, "I'd say something witty in return, but you won't live to remember it." A ball of fire struck right between them and before the smoke had disappeared, both men were rushing toward each other, howling in rage. ---------------------- Pezza entered the tallest building he could find and climbed the stairs, taking the steps three at a time. He was panting when he reached the top, but when he opened the door he knew it was worth it. He could see the entire Forum from here. Unfortunately, the entire Forum was burning. He groaned when he saw something else forming in the sky. The clouds swirled together and a large tornado started spiraling down to the ground, picking up cars, street lamps, and anything else that got in its way. As Pezza watched the tornado form, he saw something else in the corner of his eye. He looked across the street and saw a large glowing sphere on top of a building. Twitch. All of the buildings in the Flood were built close together so Pezza had little difficulty leaping from rooftop to rooftop as he closed in on Twitch. he stepped close to the sphere and put his hand against it. It went through easily and Pezza followed through with the rest of his body. Twitch was standing at the other edge of the sphere, watching with fascination as the storm wrecked havoc on the Flood. "Your defense is surprisingly weak Twitch." Twitch turned to face Pezza and sighed, "It protects me against the elements, nothing more." He looked at Pezza curiously and then said, "You killed Ash?" Pezza shook his head, "He's a little busy right now, but my guess is he'll be dead soon." Twitch smiled, "How quickly you forsake your friends." Pezza shrugged, "I'll do what I have to in order to stop you." "Of course you will." Twitch turned and glanced back outside, "I had hoped you'd finally give up your silly little quest. But I can see that you are as stubborn as ever." Pezza reached for his gun but blinked in surprise to find that it was missing. He must have lost it when Ash tackled him. Twitch held up a small metal rod and clicked a button on the side. "Let's have some fun," he muttered as a dozen small blades began swirling around the stick. He sliced the rod down ward and the blades flew as one in Pezza's direction. The Mod dove out of the sphere and listened with satisfaction as the blades struck the inside and fell to the ground. He stepped back in with a smile, "Ready to try fighting like a man?" It was then that the tornado tore across the building they were standing on, lifting the two men, and the sphere, from the ground. ------------------ Mabian caught Ash's hand as he jabbed his knife forward. Ash's free hand came around in a left hook. Mabian blocked it easily with his right hand while twisting the knife out of Ash's hand with his left, sending it clattering to the ground. Ash remained unfazed, however, and kicked his foot up, hitting Mabian in the stomach and freeing his hands. He pulled Mabian's head up by the hair and jabbed his fist repeatedly into the man's face. Mabian staggered back and was suddenly blasted forward as a fireball struck the ground right behind him. Ash's clenched fist was waiting and it met his oncoming face with a sickening crunch. Mabian staggered back again, clutching his bleeding nose when he suddenly felt a searing heat on his back. He looked over his shoulder to see that his shirt was on fire. Ash seized this distraction and rushed forward, but Mabian spun in a circle and kicked his foot out, sending Ash to the ground and giving him time to pull his shirt off. Mabian could feel blisters forming on his back, but he ignored the pain and rushed in to the rising Mod. He kicked his foot into Ash's face and sent the Mod reeling backward. Buildings started crumbling in flames around them as the two combatants crashed back into each other. Mabian wrapped one hand around Ash's throat and used the other to continuously punch the Mod in the face. In desperation, Ash grabbed Mabian and pulled him down. The two men rolled across the ground, each grappling the other. They stopped rolling and just lay there, choking and grunting. Suddenly, Mabian felt the hair on his head raise and he quickly rolled, bringing Ash on top of him. He put his legs under Ash's stomach and kicked out, sending the Mod flying just as a lightning bolt streaked out of the clouds, searching for the highest point. With all the buildings crumbling and Mabian on the ground, Ash just happened to be the highest point at that moment. Mabian shut his eyes as Ash was suddenly lit up by a bright bolt of lightning. When the light faded, Mabian opened his eyes and saw the charred heap of Ash on the ground. "I'm sorry," he whispered. -------------------- Pezza felt himself being pulled through the air along with the quickly cooling rocks that had once been in flames. A car swirled past and he quickly grabbed onto the hood, needing something firm to regain his bearings. He looked up and saw the shield fly past, followed closely by Twitch, who was reaching out for whatever had activated that shield. Pezza's eyes dropped back down and he saw that he was on a collision course with another vehicle. A large diesel to be exact. It pointed straight up in the air, but the car was about to hit the tail end. Pezza quickly coiled his legs and leaped up into the air. He reached out grabbing onto the pipe that let out the emissions from the top of the diesel and planted his feet on the roof. He turned back to see that he was now level with the swirling shield. He held his hand out, waiting for it to reach him. When it did, he quickly reached for the first object he could find inside and held on. Whatever it was, it wasn't coming out, and this was the only thing that could protect him. He felt something slice his hand and realized that the knives Twitch had thrown at him were still in there. He grimaced in pain but held tight, not willing to let this one chance of survival go. He felt something latch on to his leg and looked down to see Twitch, a fierce look in his eye, drawing a knife from his belt. Before either of them could move, they were both suddenly flying free of the tornado, soaring through the air. Pezza kicked his free leg out, hitting Twitch in the face and causing the Spammer to let go. He pulled himself up into the sphere just as a fireball blasted into it. When he looked out, Pezza saw Twitch flying behind him, only instead of the gleaming eyes and fierce look, his face charred black, as was the rest of his body. Suddenly, Pezza struck the ground, the charred body of Twitch bouncing harmlessly across the top of the shield. Pezza stood up shakily, surprised he was okay. The trees he had just flown through must have broken his fall. He looked up in surprise. Trees? "I must have been thrown out of the Flood." He picked his way down toward a paved road and smiled as it brought him right out to a sign. It showed him the direction to all of the Forums, but Pezza wasn't looking for the Forums. "Spammer Defense Force is just west of the Flood...so I'd better start heading in the direction of the Septagon." he headed out with a grin on his face, he was close.
Posted by: phish92129 Nice ending to a good story...only one more though? What a shame.
Well, considering the route my life is taking, that'll likely be all I have time for anyway. And if I manage to get my book to a publisher anytime soon, then I might not even write that.

*Gasp* I had all but thought you had abandoned this story. On the one hand, I'm sad it's coming to it's thrilling conclusion. On the other, mods and members and spammers can't fight forever. Then it would be boring.

Davester watched as the Flood followed him with unwavering faith. Such fools to put their entire lives in the hands of one man. "Where are we going?" Phish asked. "Why don't we just hide out at the Septagon for awhile? Then we can ask for their help and mount an assault on the Spammers!" There was a resounding cheer at the idea but Davester quickly silenced them, "We can't. I have received word that they have already been taken by the Spammers. We have to find a place to hide, and rebuild. There's an old abandoned structure, not far from here, we can use that as our new home." He wasn't completely lying. It was old...but it wasn't abandoned. ---------------- Pezza fingered his bloody hand gingerly and looked at the small rod that had done this to him. He glanced up when he entered a clearing with a large building in the middle. There it is. "You there!" came a shout. A Spammer was rushing forward, waving a gun in Pezza's direction. "Leave if you have any desire to live." Pezza laughed and then swung the rod forward, sending a dozen blade into the stunned Spammer's body. He walked forward as the Spammer fell back and picked the gun up from the ground. "Thanks," he muttered and also slipped the man's key card from his jacket. The inside of the Spammer Defense Force was quiet. Either the Spammers were sleeping, or they were waiting. Pezza figured it was the latter. He walked down a brightly lit corridor, knowing exactly where he was going, and was surprised that he still hadn't run into any Spammers. When he rounded a corner Pezza found out why. The Spammers had all gathered in front of the door that led to the basement. Where he needed to be. Suddenly, Pezza wished he'd have brought a grenade. He heard footsteps from behind and quickly jumped back around the corner, awaiting the newcomer. It was a single Spammer, obviously late, and not paying attention. Pezza caught him and slammed him back against the wall. "What's going on?" he whispered. "Why should I tell you?" the Spammer replied defiantly. "Because if you don't," Pezza said while raising his rod menacingly, "I'm gonna slice you up, nice and slow." The Spammer gulped, "Ah...well, we're all protecting the Forge." "Why?" "So that no one tampers with the storm, or the mind control." Pezza looked at him thoughtfully, "Are all the Spammers down there?" The Spammer shook his head, "No, but most of them are. The others are out waiting to detain the Flood." Pezza nodded, "Thanks for your help." He slipped the Spammer's grenades off his belt, "And thanks for the grenades." The knives came to life, cutting into his throat and chest before he could scream. Pezza dropped the dead Spammer and headed down the hall. The knives whizzed past his head, taking out the few guards posted in the hall and he quickly unpinned two grenades. He quickly turned down the stairs and threw the grenades at the bottom, where a dozen Spammers were looking up at their dead comrades. They shouted in outrage and then fear, but it was too late. The explosions rocked the hallway and left Pezza's ears ringing, but he didn't slow. There was only one way he could get to Don Wan. The Spammers all had their guns leveled at the door. They didn't think Pezza had anymore grenades. They were wrong. As one more explosion caused a little chaos, and a lot of smoke, Pezza burst in, his machine gun firing at a blazing speed. He swept it across the room, mowing down the first row of Spammers as he ran forward. The clip soon ran out and there were still several Spammers standing, trying to desperately to regain their sight and hearing. Pezza jabbed his fist into the closest Spammer's face and twisted the gun out of the man's hand then turned it on the others just as they saw him. He fired off several shots and then dove into a roll, hearing bullets ping behind him and feeling them whiz past his head. He jumped to his feet and plowed into the last remaining Spammer, shoving the gun into the man's neck and pulling the trigger. When he looked back at the carnage, Pezza shrugged, "That was easier than I expected." He quickly found the door he was looking for and pulled it open. When he turned on the lights, Pezza stared in shock at what he saw. Don Wan was breathing shallowly as two men watched her from behind a small machine that seemed to be generating energy. Two well placed shots took care of those men and Pezza quickly rushed to Don's side. "Are you okay?" he asked. Don Wan laughed weakly, "What do you think?" "I--I'm so sorry. You shouldn't have been mixed up in all this." He stroked her cheek and then rushed over to the machine. "What are you doing?" Don asked. "I'm getting you out of there." "Please Pezza," she replied, "let's dispense with the wishful thinking." She sighed as Pezza looked up at her, "I always hoped I'd find someone to love, but I need to know if you love me too." Pezza stared at her for a moment and then he nodded, "I think I do." "Then I need you to kill me." Her breath was coming in labored gasps now and a thick sheen of sweat covered her body. "What? No!" "You have to...in order to stop all this, you have to!" "I can't! I'm here to save you!" Don shook her head, "For once, let me save you." Pezza stared at her for a moment and then said quietly, "I can't." "You have to." "No!" Pezza rushed to her side again, "Everyone's dead now. Everyone! Don't you die too." "I'm going to die one way or another," she muttered. "No you're not!" Pezza shouted. He went back to the machine and tried to grab it, but jerked back when he felt his hand burn at the touch. "Please Pezza!" Pezza looked at her fiercely and then turned back to the machine, "There's one way to turn this thing off." He took a deep breath and then rushed forward, throwing his shoulder in front. He felt his skin press against the machine, and then slide around it as searing heat filled his body. The machine burned through his skin, his muscle, but wasn't able to burn fast enough to stop the weight of Pezza's bone. There was a sickening crunch as it spun and sizzled against the hard bone, and suddenly the machine was flying free. It smashed against a wall, and then it stopped. Pezza groaned in pain as he clutched his nearly dismembered arm. He turned to Don and asked, "Are you..." She smiled, "You proved me wrong once again." Pezza smiled back and quickly pulled the wires from her head, then lifted her out of her seat. "Let's go, there's one last thing to take care of." --------------------- Phish looked back at the Flood and then yelled in surprise. "What now?" Achronos demanded. "The storm...it's gone! That must mean the Spammers are gone." Achronos' face froze. "That's impossible," he whispered. Phish looked at him suspiciously, "Now why would you say something like that? I thought you were the one that was supposed to lead the charge and give us hope! Not send us cowering in some hole." Achronos glared at him, "What do you know about leading? What do any of you know about me? Nothing! But it doesn't matter, we're close enough now." He lifted a radio to his lips and shouted, "Brothers, activate the mind control!" He turned and looked triumphantly at the Floodians. "Now you're mine!" The crowd stood, staring at him. After a few moments, Phish asked, "What the heck are you talking about?" Achronos frowned and clicked on his radio again, "I said activate it!" "I think you'll have trouble reaching your men," came a voice from behind, "since most of them are dead." Achronos turned slowly to see Pezza, carrying the small figure of Don in his arms. "You...you're alive." "I could almost say the same thing," Pezza replied, "Since I saw Achronos' body just a few hours ago. But then," he added, "You're not really Achronos." Suddenly, the image of Achronos disappeared and Davester stood, a misshapen glare on his face. "I wanted to make a change for the better! Why can't any of you understand that?" Pezza looked at the smoke plumes that were rising from the Flood, "That's a change for the better? There's some Logical Thinking for you." "You've ruined everything!" Davester shouted. "All that I worked for!" "Well, pardon me if I don't immediately apologize for stopping you," Pezza replied. "But I think Don has something she'd like to say." Don shook her head, "No, I don't." Instead, she lifted her gun and fired three times, making three holes in Davester's head. The Flood stood still for a moment, staring in shock at what happened. Then, all at once, they broke out in cheers. When silence came upon them again, Phish asked, "What now? Are the Spammers gone forever?" Pezza shook his head, "They'll never be gone...but neither will the Flood. And now, we'll be ready for whatever they throw at us." "But who's going to rule?" Rampancy asked. Pezza looked at Don and smiled, "I thought we might try a joint leadership. It'd be nice to have a little feminine influence at the top." Don smiled back and then pulled his face down to hers, their lips locking shamelessly in front of the crowd. The crowd headed back to the Flood to start rebuilding, but Don and Pezza stayed out in the forest, enjoying the first moment of peace and solitude they'd had in a long time. This is the end of this saga. I expect I will write at least one more story after this...but I think my ideas for Forum stories are running pretty thin now, so don't expect much more. [Edited on 11.16.2007 10:40 PM PST]
