No, I don't want to play with any of you! Go away!

When I get a new game, the first thing I touch is campaign. I even buy Call of Duty games (well, not anymore because the series is stale) for the campaign, not the multiplayer. I love stories and... well yeah. I just adore campaigns. And every game I touch, I go in solo. I play it the first time myself so I can take my time and enjoy the little things. I can fully experience whatever I want to look at, find things myself, not have people talk over cutscenes (or worse- accidentally/ intentionally SKIP them), and I can enjoy the game before I take it on with friends. But with Destiny, it sounds like this game is one you CAN'T get the most out of if you are by yourself. In fact, the game actually improves drastically with additional people according to what we've seen and been told. So I can't help but wonder... will I be able to do this? I don't think, looking at it, that I'll be able to play my first time by myself. Either other guardians will arrive out of nowhere, or I'll miss out on most of what the game has to offer. And I would much rather play with friends I know than random people my first time through since I trust them more not to skip over things. Really I just think the fundamental difference in how I will be able to experience my first time in the game is fascinating. Do any of you typically play by yourselves the first time through? Have any of you actually thought about what you're going to do when you get that game? We all have crazy ideas of what Destiny has to offer, and I'm sure many will be dispelled, added to, and new ones will emerge come Monday. But before a few minutes ago I can't say I have ever actually thought about, 'How do I want to go into this game that is intended for multiple people?' Typically I don't like playing with people my first time through a game. But then... it sounds like I have to, here. And I don't mean 'have to' as a negative. I think it's fascinating that the game is 'better' with more people. So yeah. Thoughts? How do you guys typically play your game first time through? What are you going to do when you get Destiny? Play with random people that pop into your world? Get a group of friends? Do you already HAVE a group of friends? I'm sure I'll see some of you in game regardless!

  • Nice point and must agree some of the important parts are likely to be ruibed by other player interference. Still i beleive it is playable solo as jason jones son played it offline when maintenance was occuring.

I play alone and "APPEAR OFFLINE" first time through. Then will ask friends only to roll with me. I will certainly enjoy and look forward to the Public Events. "NO" on the Randy's Although I understand where you're coming from. Your title could've been a bit nicer. You come off as kind of a Douche for those that may not know you :-)

      • I'm definitely the same way. My first hands on experience with the game will most likely be ruined if I'm playing with someone else. Having another person around sort of ruins the immersion for me. However, that said, I'm still pumped about all the multiplayer aspects. Public events look awesome and running into random guardians while on my journey sounds epic. Playing by yourself will have its benefits, but so will playing with others.

      • Personally I like saring the experience with other people. However, bungie said that if you want to lone wolf it you can.

      • Whenever I buy a new game, I go to campaign, complete it first day (Unless it is like Assassin's Creed or TES,) then I go to multiplayer. I imagine you could always go solo, and if other players show up, you can either avoid them and go the other way or work with them. I can see what you're saying though, when I first get Destiny the first thing I want to do is go off alone and get a feel for the game and explore some stuff alone, without the distraction of other players.

      • I'm with you burrito. I hate playing a new campaign with other people the first time (unless they are sitting on the couch next to me). I get the idea of Destiny and other games that have similar features but really that isn't what appeals to me at the outset. I feel like all of this "co-op" and "multiplayer" stuff is being pushed on some of us and then we're off-handedly told "You can play the way you want!" Prove it.

      • I mean, it's like L4D isn't it? Instead of you needing to play the game alone the first time, it's ideal to play it with a full set of friends to fill up your team.

      • You assume you're that important? I don't even know who you are. Why do people assume they are well recognized by everyone on these forums? Anywho I doubt ill be playing or seeing you around. Deuces.

        • #bungie have specifically said time and again that they want each player to be able to enjoy the game however we chose. Whether that's PvP, PvE, or Solo gaming. I'm with you tho, I enjoy solo action for shooters and RPG's the most. The online play will be awesome too, but don't worry; you will have the solo option.

            • From what I have seen or heard, I am guessing it works like this: it sounds like people will be phasing in and out of your game. I don't think you are going to be linked to people unless you are partied up with some friends. That being said, if some group of randoms wants to push ahead then you can hang back and take stuff in without having to worry about warping to them. I'm guessing that the story mode won't be exactly like how it works in Halo either.

            • Burrito, do you play or have played borderlands? I'd figure the games co-op aspect makes it one of the very games out there that is actually better with friends/other people; I feel it's the same perspective with Destiny.

            • well, every time I played FPS is with my brother, he is annoying for team kill, but can be a great support fire, and sometimes, we skipped the cutscenes

            • I'd love to know because I do the same thing. Playing by myself on the first run allows me to take my sweet sweet time without any interruption from somebody else.

            • You will most likely be able to play with your friends as in the Bungie info-release it showed on the Destiny main screen you had a "squad"

I completely agree. I occasionally play online multiplayer, but my true love is a game's campaign. I love to go through and look at every detail, and check every corner for easter eggs. I also worry that Destiny will force me to play with other people when I just feel like exploring.

            • I ALWAYS play the Campaign solo the first time. It feels like I'm watching a movie for the first time in a theater, so I don't want it ruined. But if I can play with my friends who aren't disruptive my first time in Destiny, it might be better. Maybe get a squad together or something.

              • Same here, Burrito. I really hope there is an option to at least have the game open to friends only at least, or even invite only. I don't know how many friend I have just ran through Borderlands 2 with me when I got it and there was so much I missed. I'm certainly not doing that with Destiny, not the first time around at least. I know, I know I'm so anti-social in that aspect. I really want to experience this game the best possible way my first time around.
