More notification system options and improvements

Since this is about the only feature of the new site I really like (and trawling through to find previous threads is... awkward), these are things I would personally like to improve it: The option to be notified whenever a new post happens in a thread you have posted in. Any post, whether it's in sub-threads or anything else, and even if you weren't the OP. The option not to have multiple replies to the same post conflated in the notification system. If you insist on using this god awful system, give us the option to have multiple notifications as distinct entities in the notification bar. It's easy to miss whatever it doesn't immediately link to. The ability to add favourite posters to your notification bar, so you get a notification whenever they start a new thread in either the forums or in groups you are both in. Adding new group thread notifications - so I can come on and be notified there's a new thread in Mythic Members, for instance, without having to open the group. I'm sure other people can think of some more, but that's off the top of my head. The way you've implemented notifications, it's like none of the design team have ever used Facebook. Obligatory "drop down menus are a sin", "bring back chronological order" and "give me my goddamn blue bar back". Edit: Also, let me damn well remain auto-signed in and remember my bloody settings. Absolutely bloody useless site.

  • A lot of the features you mentioned fall under the "Following" button indicator thing between notifications and friends. I always assumed it functioned similar to notification, but I honestly don't know because I'm not following anyone. Is it really necessary to move all this threadwatch stuff to Notifications when the Following section could be improved instead?

    • I agree with several of the points you've made in this thread. However because I have a fundamental disagreement with how the "Like" system is supposed to be used (it's the new saved threads) I have to reply with nothing to add rather than simply liking your thread.

I would personally like to have an option to disable notifications for people joining groups you are an admin in. Bonus points if there are differing options for open and closed groups. At the moment, I'm getting multiple "xxxx user joined xxx-group" every day and it's obnoxious. All of this really should have been available months ago, along with dozens of other changes to this terrible excuse for a website.

Edit: Also, let me damn well remain auto-signed in and remember my bloody settings. Absolutely bloody useless site.
Obligatory agreement and reinforcement. Except that chronological doesn't work that well when nesting, because you have no bloody idea which sub-nests are new and which aren't, and end up having to click all of them to find a new post in a thread. So, bin the nesting. Then bring back chronological. Also, nests should be expanded by default, and you have the option to collapse them - rather than having to open them. I would assert that you should start with the firehose, and then trim it down as you like, rather than having to turn the firehose on, to then trim it down. Anyway, the point I was going to make is that when there are multiple replies to a single post you've made, make one notification rather than two. It means if I find I've got 5 notifications, I don't have to figure out which how many are from where and what and all that. Then, make clicking on the notification take you to your post, rather than whichever of the replies is stacked on top. And tweak the settings on the thread collapser so that you can see all the replies without having to "SEE MORE REPLIES IN THIS SUB-THREAD"
