Why do they always say, "Get a PC"?

What sense does that make? If someone were to switch to a decent gaming PC, which costs quite a bit, if I understand correctly, then they would have to replace their entire collection of games, which again, costs quite a lot. Also, if they have a functioning console that they're happy with, why get a PC? Sure, there's mod support, and the graphics tend to be better, but consoles are still playable, ancient tech aside. So please, enlighten me as to why getting a PC is a logical spending decision, because I'm not seeing it.

  • If you buy a PC then purchase your game library during one of Steam's major sales, you won't be spending too terribly much (about $1,000).

PC gaming has a high start-up cost, but will cost you less in the long run. Cost aside, it is the better gaming experience.

      >Why you may ask: >>PC price: $1040 4 years ago. $240 in upgrades(which came with $120 worth of games) >>>Average price payed for games: $40 >>Xbox 360 - Initial price $300(2005). 4 consoles later... around $1000. >>>Xbox live - about $55 a year. >>>Average game: $60 Alright, so I had my xbox a bit longer than my PC. But going from with the time period from which I got my PC I spent $600 on consoles, $220 on live, and $100 on that thing known as kinect. Also theres the monstrous amount of controllers I've gone through. Now I spent $1280 on my PC/keeping it alive with accessories. So technically with just these factors PC has cost me more money. Now lets factor in the fact that I WOULD HAVE NEEDED TO BUY ONE ANYWAY FOR SCHOOL. Lets subtract that from the PC price, and suddenly PC seems slightly better. And xbox will soon charge me more for online service. Anyway, thats a glimpse into my somewhat broken logic.

Think of it this way: Brand new gaming console - $200-$300 (more or less) Average person spends on a computer - $300 (more or less) So instead of getting both a console and a computer, just do away with the console and then with that extra $200-$300 along with the $300 for the computer, that's about $500-$600. You can build a very, very awesome gaming PC with that amount of money. You can even build a fairly decent gaming PC for $250-$350 (more or less). And as for games, Steam has sales running LITERALLY every single day of every single week. And then of course, Steam has their 4 big sales: Summer, Winter, Spring, and Fall Sales. You can save HUNDREDS of dollars if you buy games while they're on sale, which is what I do. For example, Steam Summer Sale 2012, I spent $90. Wanna know what I got with that $90? All of these games. So ya...the Steam sales are pretty freaking awesome.

        • Because you can play the games you are missing out on right now. Also, I fail to see how buying a PC forces you to stop playing on a console.

Well considering you'd have to get a new console in order to keep up anyway, you'd actually end up saving money by buying a PC. Unless you enjoy disgustingly slow PC's, you need to spend at least 300-350 on an everyday PC. The consoles coming out will be between 300-400$. That's a minimum of 600$ for both, or a maximum of 750$. At 600$, you can make yourself a very good PC. At 750$, you've got a great PC. You use the PC for both work and gaming. For people like me, who need a powerful PC for design anyway, that's a no-brainer. PC games are also 10$ cheaper right off the bat. That's not even considering Steam has insane sales. Then you'll have all that great stuff you mentioned consoles don't have. Just L4D2 alone has so many mods, I doubt I'll ever get through them all. Honestly, I have a hard time imagining why people wouldn't want a PC. And if you've got a Mac, and still think a console is more worth it? I'll start to consider you might be delusional.

          • Because the mods and graphics, but I like the consoles because you don't need to upgrade hardware.

          • It's logical if you're going to replace your existing pc.
