Bungie Community,
Did we mention that Bungie.net is a work in progress? Today, some more of that work is on display. An update just went live that is bristling with enhancements for your forum-going experiences. Compared to the weekly revisions that we enjoyed during the beta phase for “Bungie.next,” this one took a little while longer to become a reality. We hope you’ll agree that the extra wait has made this helping of new code all the sweeter.
Today’s upgrade is packed with over 200 fixes, tweaks, bumps, nudges, and turbocharges. Check out the highlights:
News is easier to discover and share. If you look at the homepage and scroll down to the slider, you’ll see an instant preview of latest content the Bungie Blog on the leftest-most widget. When you drop a comment on those stories, the conversation will be mirrored automatically on the forum. This will yield better visibility when new details for Destiny emerge – or we continue to chronicle the rise of the Destiny Community to power.
Bungie.net is smoother to browse using a mobile device. The Bungie Mobile App is unchanged, but if you surf our website on the go you might detect some slight changes in navigation and layout that make the waves a little easier to ride.
Polls have returned. Let democracy reign, again. Your topics can invite an audience to select from Seven pre-determined options. If you’re asking “Why Seven?” you must be new here. Welcome!
Question threads are brand new. When you mark a Topic as a question, you can circle back later and indicate which answer you like the best. We can help you out with that process, since an answer from a Bungie employee can light the way for other lost souls.
You have bold new powers for sorting the forum. First of all, the index view for any forum has more immediate callouts of recent activity. Also, you can filter the Topics on a forum so that only the ones you’ve chosen to “Like” appear, allowing you to save your favorite conversations for later.
You can now “Like” the Comments for Topics, too. This will impact the way content is sorted within a thread. More popular Comments will rise to the top, allowing even our less vocal members to influence the consensus. And, if the consensus is less important to you than consuming every trollicious detail…
The order of Comments (and their corresponding Replies) to Topics can be sorted. Look at a thread. Find the new option in the upper-right. Select from “Popular” or “Oldest First.” You can take the temperature of the community, or you can read every single remark as they unfold. This new feature is new, and requires a little patience on your part. The site should remember your preference. Let us know if it works!
While your Private Groups remain greatly unchanged, all of these forum updates will be visible within your own clubhouses, too.
What more could you ask for? Plenty! We know. We’re listening. And we’re working on it. For now, please dive into the new toybox and keep the feedback coming.
Love,
DeeJ BNG

Edited by Icy Wind: 3/21/2013 5:06:31 PMThank you Bungie! -switches to Oldest First- Is there a way to make that a permanent change for people that like it?
-
Yes! Great update!
-
Patch... Thursday? I can't say I like this at all. Not at all. Patches are for Tuesdays. Tuesdays are for Patches. It Is The Way Of Things.
-
Comment sort button is bright in the dark theme xoxoxo
-
Thank you!
-
Thank you for the comment sorting option. Threads are no finally in a logical posting order.
-
Okay I just gotta say why only three options for the polls?
-
Nice! I really like being able to read the oldest comment first now :)
-
Awesome, just a question, the "This topic has been moved here:" still doesn't work on the old site, is there any plans on fixing that soon?
-
Thank you so much! Works much better on the phone now But the letters are still laggy when i type them on my phone
-
Dese all sound so gewd

Edited by EZ: 3/21/2013 5:24:48 PMVery cool, Thanks DeeJ, I'll be sure to give feedback on this one if I need to! But my initial feedback is, everything looks great. Also thank you webteam, you guys are awesome!
You can now “Like” the Comments for Topics, too.
There are those who said this day would never come. What are they to say now?
-
I'm digging how dynamic the polls are. They actually readjust the bar sizes right after you make your choice.
-
Ahhh... this feel better. Thank you DeeJ and the amazing Web Team for listening to us!

Edited by Tom T: 3/21/2013 5:53:20 PMInitial criticism is that "oldest" setting must be toggled each time you visit a thread, rather than it keeping settings saved. Could we please have some profile default options? Edit: Read the above, says that the site will remember. Thanks. I would also personally prefer a setting that removed seeded comments (perhaps that could be another filter?). So that this would not be confusing I would suggest comments still note which replies that are linked when this seeding is switched off, provided that is not too straining (an attached link to the relevant subthread might be the best option).
-
There is not a single update in that list that I am not very happy with. Thank you webteam! Excellent job.

Edited by Spawn: 3/21/2013 5:53:14 PMNow seeing that when you select "oldest first" it does save your information to another thread, however since there are no pages, it defeats the purpose a bit. Other things already observed: Thread titles are bolded more User research page options via drop down menu and profile pages Lots of #hastags in thread titles now don't move to a second line of spacing

Edited by Prototape: 3/21/2013 5:25:15 PMI'll have to try the mobile version again, it was incredibly frustrating to use when Bungie.next first rolled out. Thank you guys for fixing it! Everything else looks great, I love how this new update is unfolding.
-
Certainly looks better on mobile
-
Lack of thread pages is also going to be an issue browsing "Oldest First" in threads with a lot of replies.
-
Edited by Thrasher: 3/21/2013 5:35:10 PMNevermind, I need to learn how to read.
-
Very nice update. I'll now be using Oldest First all the time.

Thanks for fixing the blog tile on the home page. You have no idea how long it took me to figure out if i clicked on the tile that it would flip over to reveal more stuff. After finding it, it was a very nice touch to the website, but I'm sure that, (or at least i hope that), there were others that didn't notice this till later. Give the person that came up with the idea of the flipping tile a pat on the back, it was a great idea, but i think that i know why you fixed it.

Also, one other thing that i noticed, the forum page, thread section, doesn't show who was the last person to post in the thread. Is that something that was left out intentionaly? If so, why?
