So just wondering what people's thoughts are on silencer attachments and the effect of noise on the enemy.
If there are enemies over a hill (but close) and they hear you firing your assault rifle (without a silencer) should they approach to investigate the noise?
Should assassinations (melee attacks from behind) be done in silence? Or should how noisy the kill is depend on the class/knife attachment you have?
If you're in an area with lots of interweaving corridors you may be able to take on the enemy one by one through stealth and silencers, but if you charge through guns blazing the enemy may overwhelm you.
Do you like the idea of noise playing a factor in battle? Or do you feel it's unnecessary?

So here's a scenario that i think stealth and silenced weapons would be perfect for... Lets say you are on mars and are attacking a fortified Cabal base. They have defense systems and overwhelming numbers and you just cant make a push through all the supressing fire. Then suddenly another squad swings in and says that they were scouting the base and noticed a small unguarded axcess point. now the stealthiest members of the two squads join up and sneak into the base through this point. they stalk through the halls and corridors and make their way to the defense control room. they shut down the defenses, and then the remaining squad members are able to push through and the base is taken. i dont know if any of this is in the game at all. but sure would be blamin awesome.

you write like Destiny will be Halo... I'm annoyed by that. Destiny will not be Halo!

If my dream comes true, Destiny will have the most realistic stealth system ever, factoring camoflauge and other things, holsters, and no magical names above peoples heads.

The problem with this is when your sneaking around and then another squad comes in guns blazing and completely blows your cover and you get discovered because of a team doing the mission there way and ruins the mission for you. I think the whole gun shot and the enemy goes and investigated it would be awesome but it just wouldn't work :(

Edited by Bandi: 3/20/2013 3:19:14 PMUnnecessary, especially in a realm like this I mean sure, it'd be nice to sneak around like a ninja with a gun in some levels, but that gets boring, especially when your cover gets blown and then the entire area knows you're there And then your setup of lightweight weaponry and absolute stealth turns you into a wet square of toilet tissue

Well, in arena style PvP maps it'd be useless, but in open world areas it'd be a lot more useful. Though I hope they don't make it work like it does in crysis where if you kill someone with a silenced weapon, it takes them a really long time to notice. Silenced weapons are still pretty loud, so unless your target is a good way away from the rest of the group the most they'll do is underestimate your caliber.

Edited by Arbiter 739: 3/20/2013 9:29:49 AMHalo CE, Halo 2, Halo 3, Halo 3, and Halo: Reach all had two great stealth mechanics. It was called assassinations and going slow enough so as to not appear on the radar. I liked that because there was no way to avoid getting on the radar if you didn't do one of these things, causing some players to not check their back as much as they might otherwise would have. I honestly don't think Destiny needs silent weapons but at this point it's far too late in the game's development cycle for our input to change anything. The problem I have with it is that it becomes nearly impossible to be stealthy without them due to "silent weapons" constantly being a concern on a regular player's plate. In some games counter-stealth stuff for stealth-specific things also made regular sneakiness impossible.

I like the idea. Every FPS can benefit from a good stealth mechanic.

i definitely love the idea of realistic awareness. one thing that bugged me in most halo's (even ODST :/) was how you could snipe an AI from accross the map and instantly, nearrly every enemy between you and the target (and even past the target) was looking right at you and firing. as far as AI awareness goes, i hope they have fair depths of vision and hearing. of course we can assume many types of enemies have radio contact with eachother, but even that should have some type of delay, especially if only 2 enemies were anywhere near your target, for example. if they weren't on a millitant patrol, you'd expect some hesitation or shock. in the case that they do just go right for their weapons, that's fine but they should at least have to physically SEE me and if this type of reaction left an enemy blindly shooting in rage, they shouldn't be able to raise awareness of further off enemies (unless they had a loud weapon or did something to merit sudden attention) until they've perhaps taken cover or are reloading, etc. basically, i think it'd be sweet to move through far-off sniping situations or up-close stealth operations with a bit more realism than halo games have had. silenced weapons would be a sweet addition!

I hope movement speed and movement on specific terrain also affects stealth.

Silenced weapons... hell yeah. I think that noise is going to be a factor in the game but probably not as much as you are thinking/ hoping it will be.

I'm hoping for a sort of Dishonored feel.
Should assassinations (melee attacks from behind)
Who says Destiny will have those?

Doesn't a silencer also increase the accuracy?
