"Local Area Network" A computer network that is hooked together over ethernet cable (CAT5,CAT6 and over seas generally CAT 7 but that is mainly a SHIELDED version of a CAT6) through a series of wall jacks, and cable runs to a closet that house a patch panel that connects into a variety of HUBS, SWITCHES and or ROUTERS that distribute a link or access to the internet.
