Butane approached Yoozel with a limp form in his arms. "We've brought you Fiurha." Yoozel nodded, "Good, here's your money." He handed him a stack of bills and Butane turned to leave. "Before you go," Yoozel said, holding up a finger, "I have one more proposition for you." Butane sighed and turned around, "I do have places to go." "I'll make it worth your while." Yoozel assured him. "What do you want the Bungie Jumpers to do?" Yoozel glanced down at Fiurha's body, "Halifax will be coming for her. I don't really want to kill him, so I was wondering if you wouldn't mind doing it for me." Butane shrugged, "Why didn't you just have us kill him when we took Fiurha?" "Because I want to see the look on his face before he dies. I want him to feel more pain than--" Butane held his hand up, "Alright, don't work yourself up. We'll kill him. Just tell us when and where." ------------------- Achronos watched as Recon stepped through the door, "What are you doing here? Did you kill Banshee?" Recon shook his head, "No. And they know where we are." Achronos stared at him for a moment and then said, "And they are coming here now?" Recon nodded. Achronos looked at him thoughtfully, "We must separate. It will be more dangerous to fight them all together than separate." "You want to fight?" Recon asked incredulously. Achronos smiled, "I want to rid myself of the one last obstacle standing between me and complete control of the Flood." He stood up and asked, "Where are the other Mods?" "They've fled the Flood...or they've already been killed. Either way, they are of no use to us." Achronos nodded, "Very well. Prepare yourself. This is the day the Overlord shows the entire Forum his true power." -------------------- "So where is this place?" Halifax asked as they walked. "It's an underground complex on the outskirts of the Flood." Banshee replied. Halifax nodded and fell silent. "Who would have thought," Banshee said, breaking the silence, "That we would once again be fighting side by side." "I'm going to save Fiurha." Halifax said firmly. "If I can avoid killing whoever took her, then I will." Banshee nodded, "Of course. But if she's dead, will you just walk away?" He looked at Halifax with a piercing gaze, "Or will killing finally be justified in your eyes?" "She's not dead." Halifax replied. "You didn't answer my question." Banshee pressed. "How far will you go for vengeance?" "What does it matter to you?" Halifax shouted, turning on him. The others froze and looked at each other, not sure what to do. "I'm not like you! I never will be. So stop! I'll do what I have to do and nothing more." Banshee looked as if he was about to retort, but after a moment of thought, he nodded and said quietly, "Alright, let's keep moving." They continued in silence, walking down the street toward the Overlord's hideout. "That's it up ahead." Banshee said a few minutes later. "A girl thread?" MCs Brother asked skeptically. "It's beneath the thread." Banshee replied. "It's genius really. No one would ever look past the surface of the thread. And it would be full of all the creepy denizens of the Flood who are there just for a chance to catch a glimpse of a girl. No normal person would go there." Obbi nodded, "It's the ultimate cover. Why do you think I chose to dress as a girl when I first came here?'" "So how do we get in?" "Easy." Banshee replied, "We take the elevator to the basement." At their incredulous looks he said, “They haven’t had time to make it much more secure.” "Alright," Halifax said decisively, "Let's go." ------------------ The thread was dimly lit and surprisingly quiet as the five men entered the elevator. They reached the basement and stepped out into what looked like a utility room. "What now?" Un Gato asked. "Their underground base is made up of a series of caverns." Banshee explained, "I don't know where they'll be so we'll have to split up and navigate through them." "How do you know all this?" Halifax asked skeptically. "Because I helped build this." Banshee replied. "It used to be known as the Seventh Column, but is now just another way for the Mods to spy on us." He walked through the room and reached into his pocket. "Everyone stand back." He quickly placed the object against a section of the wall and and then stepped back. Suddenly, a ring of fire encircled the edge of the object and large cracks appeared in the wall. In a matter of seconds, the wall had crumbled and turned to charcoal and dust. In place of the wall, a long corridor now stretched before them. "Alright." Banshee said quietly, "Everyone go through. Be warned, they will know we're coming. There's cameras everywhere in there." The five men climbed through the hole and walked down the corridor. It wasn't long before they reached the first fork in the corridor. "Which way?" Obbi asked. "Halifax and I will go left," Banshee replied, "You guys go right." Obbi nodded, "If you find Achronos before we do...don't kill him until we get there." Banshee smiled, "Of course, just so long as you leave Recon to me." "Agreed." They separated there, Banshee traveling quietly with Halifax while the other three went along down the other corridor. "Why did you want to come with me?" Halifax asked. "You'd have just as much chance of finding Recon with them as with me." "Because we have to talk." Halifax laughed, "I don't think now is the time to get in an argument about who's right and--" "No." Banshee cut in. "Not that." He paused and looked at Halifax, "I've known you for a long time. Since you first came to the Flood." "Ya, so?" "We were friends then." Banshee said quietly. "But when I left...well, we both changed." Halifax looked at him skeptically, "I'm still waiting for the part that's supposed to surprise me." "Look, there's a good chance that neither of us will get out of here alive...and I don't want to die knowing that one of the few people I respect hates me. Can we just accept our differences and try and be friends again." Halifax turned to Banshee and gave him a steely gaze, "You tried to have me killed. You delivered Kritz to the Mods and let them kill him. You and I aren't just different, we're polar opposites!" He shook his head and turned away, walking down the corridor again, "We are not friends and we won't ever be friends again." Banshee sighed and followed after him, "What I did was wrong. I thought that we could destroy the Mods from within." "Ya, so did I!" Halifax said loudly, "But I didn't kill any of my friends to do it!" "Well well well," A new voice said, "It looks like we have a little bickering going on here." Halifax looked up and saw that they were standing right beneath a camera, "We know you're here Achronos! This can still end peacefully!" "Really?" The voice said, dripping with sarcasm, "Because I've been listening to your friends and they seem completely intent on killing me." "I can talk to them." Halifax replied, "I can convince them to stop." "I've seen the way you talk, Halifax. Remember last time? You blew up an entire thread! No, I think I'd much rather welcome them in...give them a chance to destroy everything I've worked to create." Halifax growled with frustration and kept walking, "And what have you created exactly? There's no privacy, no Library, and even more chaos than before!" "That is your doing." Achronos replied. "I only want to control the Spam, not the people." "Oh? Is that why you started destroying groups and threads with any intelligence in them?" "I made the groups better!" Achronos said fiercely. "The groups are dead!" Halifax shouted, "No one uses them because their purpose is gone. You can't have a group without privacy." "You don't understand what's in store. I have plans, great plans for this Forum. And all you want to do is destroy them!" "If your plans involve kidnapping innocent people then I don't think I want to see them come to pass." They reached another fork and Halifax looked at Banshee, "You go right, I'll go left." Banshee nodded and headed down the right path. "You won't find me that way." Achronos taunted. "I'm not looking for you." Halifax scoffed. "I'll let my friends take care of you." "Ah yes, you wish to save your little Fifi." Achronos laughed, "I wish you luck, Halifax. But you have already lost." Halifax glared up at the cieling and pressed on. ------------------- Banshee hurried down the hall, looking for any sign of movement. There were several doors on his way and he opened all of them, but none held anything of interest. When he turned the corner, he saw a fleeting figure cross at the end of the hallway and charged forward. ------------------ Obbi led Un Gato and MCs Brother down the corridor, watching every shadow alertly, hoping for a glimpse of life. He glanced up and saw a camera and shouted, "Achronos! I know you can hear me! Is the great Overlord to frightened to come down and face me? There's nowhere left to run Achronos! All that's left for you to do is fight!" "Patience." Came the booming, yet calm response. Obbi laughed, "I've been patient for far too long. Ever since you drove me out, I've been waiting for this. It's time for you to face justice." "Don't worry." Achronos replied, "Justice will be served to the one who truly deserves it." "Indeed.” Obbi said quietly. ----------------------- [Edited on 07.26.2007 2:19 PM PDT]

Un Gato and MCs Brother chased after Lukems and saw him make a sharp left. They charged after him and slammed their way through the door he had just entered. When the door shut behind them, they found themselves in a dark room. “Welcome,” Lukems voice called from the dark, “To the future of Bungie.” The lights suddenly turned on and Un Gato and MCs Brother found themselves facing a horde of robots. “I thought to myself, how do these Spam attacks keep happening? What are we doing wrong?” Lukems spoke as he stepped back to the edge of the room. “Then I realized, we keep on letting members hold the power and they let mercy guide them. What you see before you are ruthless machines who will enforce the rules with brutal efficiency. What you see…is the end to all Spam.” He smiled and pulled the door open, “Starting with you.” The door slammed shut and all of the robo-Mods turned to face the two men. Un Gato glanced at MCs Brother, “Run?” MCs Brother smiled, “We need to stop Lukems.” Un Gato looked from the robo-Mods to MCs Brother and then sighed, “Alright.” -------------------- Fiurha glared at Yoozel as she clutched her bleeding leg. “You’re a monster.” “I can live with that.” Yoozel replied. Fiurha shook her head, “No, you can’t.” She brought her good leg beneath her and pushed up with all her strength. She knocked the gun aside and wrapped her arms around Yoozel’s neck. Yoozel gasped and then jammed his elbow into her stomach. Fiurha grunted and released him, falling back to the ground with a groan. “Nice try.” Yoozel said, rubbing his throat, “But it will take more than that to stop me.” “How about this?” Fiurha shouted and grabbed the gun that he’d dropped and fired into his chest. Yoozel jerked back and then stared down at the small hole in his chest. With a pleading look at Fiurha, he fell forward and lay still on the ground. ---------------- Halifax and Banshee held their guns high and glared at the remaining Bungie Jumpers. “Leave now.” The few men still standing nodded and turned to leave. “That was easier than I expected.” Banshee said with a smile. “Some things are worth dying for,” Halifax replied, “Money isn’t one of them.” The two men turned and started down the hall when suddenly, the door opened. “Good evening gentlemen.” Recon said as he appeared from the door. “Recon!” Banshee shouted and raised his gun, but Recon was faster. He had his gun up and fired before Banshee could blink. Halifax had burst into motion before either man had moved and jumped forward in front of Banshee. He jerked back when Recon fired and clutched his chest. Banshee stared at him for a moment and then fired his own gun, at Recon. The Mod fell backward in surprise and slid down the wall. “Halifax!” Banshee yelled and caught him, lowering him gently to the ground. “Halifax.” This time it was a whisper. “What were you thinking?” Halifax smiled and clutched Banshee’s shoulder, “I was thinking that maybe I shouldn’t let an old friend go so easily.” He coughed up blood and let out a low sigh before lowering his head back to the ground. The door swung open again and Fiurha stood there, leaning against the wall to keep from falling over. She stared at Banshee and then her eyes moved to the body he was kneeling over and she let out a loud wail and took one step forward before falling to her knees, yelling in pain and despair. She crawled over to Halifax’s body and clutched his chest as tears dripped down her face. “Don’t die!” She shouted. “You can’t die!” Banshee put his arm around Fiurha’s shoulder and said gently, “Fiurha—“ “Don’t touch me!” Fiurha shouted and Banshee recoiled, drawing his arm back. “Just leave me alone.” She muttered and stroked Halifax’s cold face. She pressed her lips against his forehead and then pulled back, trying to fight the tears. “I came back for you, Halifax.” She stroked his cheek and whispered, “I would have never survived if I hadn’t known you were waiting for me.” Banshee sat quietly against the wall as Fiurha kneeled over Halifax’s chest and continued sobbing. -------------------------- Achronos slammed his fist into Obbi’s stomach and then swung his leg out, sending the man sprawling to the ground. Obbi grimaced as the shattered glass sliced his skin. “You should have just let me shoot you.” Achronos said and sent his foot flying into Obbi’s side. “This is going to be a lot more painful.” As he brought his leg back for another kick, Obbi grabbed a shard of glass and swung it around, slamming it into Achronos’ leg. Achronos yelled in pain and then his eyes popped open when Obbi’s foot snapped into his groin. He groaned and dropped to his knees. “What did you expect?” Obbi said with a mocking tone. “That all the members would just lay down and let you destroy the Forums?” He picked up another glass shard and shook his head, “Sorry, but enough is enough.” He jammed the shard into the back of Achronos’ neck and the Overlord dropped to the ground as blood spread out beneath his head. Obbi stood up and was about to leave when something on Achronos’ body caught his eye. He bent down and picked it up. It was a small object with no visible markings except a light that flashed green. He stepped out of the room and flipped a switch on the back of the control, but nothing happened. With a shrug, Obbi continued down the hall until he heard something coming from a door to the left. He opened the door and stood aghast at the scene. Un Gato was sitting on the floor, cradling MCs Brother’s head in his hands and looked up at Obbi. “Did you…did you stop them?” Obbi looked around and saw dozens of robots standing, frozen in position, several of them had guns raised. “I guess so.” He muttered. He looked at the object he was holding and shook his head, “For an Overlord, Achronos wasn’t too bright.” He looked back at Un Gato, “Is MCs Brother…” He couldn’t bring himself to say it. Un Gato shook his head, “No, he was shot, but he’s still breathing.” Obbi nodded, “Get him back up top and take him to the hospital, I’ll take care of Lukems.” Un Gato nodded and helped MCs Brother to his feet. Fortunately, the man could walk. Obbi watched as the left and then looked back at the robo-Mods. He looked down at the object in his hand and then smiled and flipped it to the on position. --------------- Lukems crouched against a wall and breathed heavily. His chopper was just above him. He quickly pressed the button to call the elevator and waited. “You’re finished.” Said a voice down the hall. Lukems looked over in surprise to see Obbi walking toward him. He raised his gun and shouted, “Just turn around now! I don’t want to hurt you.” “Funny, you didn’t seem to mind hurting my friends.” Obbi looked at him disdainfully and then said quietly, “Now it’s time for you this to end.” “I’m warning you!” Lukems shouted. “Goodbye Lukems.” Suddenly, a dozen robo-Mods burst around the corner and charged forward with astounding speed. Lukems fired wildly, hitting several of them but doing very little damage. They grabbed him, knocking the gun aside and twisting his arm until his bone cracked. “Obbi!” Lukems screamed as the robo-Mods began to pummel him. Obbi walked up and waited until they stopped. The elevator door slid open, it’s sides dripping with blood. Obbi stepped forward and pushed what was left of Lukems back through the elevator door. “See you in Hell.” He sent the elevator to the lowest level and then stepped out, leaving the body inside. ---------------------- Obbi found Banshee and Fiurha and assisted them in carrying Halifax’s body back to the surface. It wasn’t long before another shout came from Dragon Eyes. She limped over to the body and stared at Halifax’s pale, cold face. MCs Brother clutched his side in pain but managed to put an arm across her shoulder. Dragon immediately turned to him and started sobbing. “So, what do we do now?” Obbi asked. “All the Mods are gone and we have no Overlord to replace them.” “Well,” Banshee said thoughtfully, “Maybe it’s time we let the Flood govern themselves.” His face broke into a grin, “And if anyone tries to take over…I’ll, still be here.” Obbi nodded, “So will I.” “We will too.” Un Gato said as he stood next to MCs Brother. Fiurha looked up with a tear stained face, “For the Flood.” “For the Flood.” Came the unanimous response. Fin

------------------- Halifax had been walking for several minutes when he heard something ahead. He paused and then snuck forward, keeping as quiet as possible. “Come on out Halifax!” A voice shouted. Halifax knew that voice. “You said you just wanted to talk, so let’s have a little chat, shall we?” Halifax stood up straight and leveled his gun before turning around the corner. Yoozel stood there, a bright smile on his face, as he held Fiurha in front of him with a gun pressed against the back of her head. “It’s good to see you again.” “I wish I could say the same.” Halifax replied dryly. Yoozel chuckled, “Always quick with the tongue aren’t you? Although,” he added looking at Fiurha, “I’m sure she knows all about that.” Halifax glared at him, “Let her go. No one has to die today.” Yoozel shook his head, “No Halifax, I’m sorry. But someone does have to die.” “You were never like this before. This power has corrupted you Yoozel.” “Oh, right, so I’m the bad guy for trying to stop the terrorists!” Yoozel spat as he said it, “You can pretend to be all high and mighty if you want, but the truth is you’ve killed more friends than you’ve lost. You had your chance to talk at the very beginning, but you blew it when you joined up with Banshee Barron. And now you have to pay the price for your mistake.” He pressed the gun hard against Fiurha’s neck and rested his hand on the trigger, “Know that she died because you weren’t willing to see things our way.” “No!” Halifax shouted and rushed forward. A hidden door opened just in front of him and suddenly, Butane jumped out. All around him, doors began opening and Bungie Jumpers poured out. Yoozel laughed as he watched them surround Halifax, “Maybe I can have a little fun before I kill her. I’m sure Butane won’t mind keeping you company.” He nodded to Butane and then backed away through the door. ----------------------- Banshee had followed the man for several minutes before he realized it was a Bungie Jumper. He snuck up as close as he could and then grabbed the man around the neck and squeezed. “Where is Recon?” He asked. “I don’t know.” The Bungie Jumper gasped. “Liar!” “Believe me, I’m not being paid to keep secrets.” “Then what are you being paid to do?” “Kill some guy, I don’t know. I don’t care much for the details, just the money.” Banshee stared at him for a moment, and then asked, “Who’s paying you?” “Yoozel.” Banshee’s eyes widened. He knew who this man was supposed to kill now. “Take me there.” --------------------- Achronos watched the screen thoughtfully and glanced up at Recon, “It looks like Banshee’s looking for you.” Recon smiled grimly, “I’ll save him the trouble.” He looked down at Achronos, “And are you going to stay here?” “Yes. They should be here soon.” He smiled wickedly, “I can’t wait to meet them.” --------------------- Butane leveled his weapon, “I’m sorry Halifax. I always liked you.” Halifax laughed mirthlessly, “But you like money more.” Butane shrugged, “Gotta make a living somehow.” Halifax nodded, “Ya, I know.” Suddenly, he snapped his arm up, hitting the gun with the back of his hand and sending it flying wide. He quickly ducked beneath Butane’s upraised arm and then wrapped his arms under the man’s shoulders, keeping him from resisting. “I’m sorry Butane, but there are more important things than money.” Butane grunted and tried to pull his arms free, “That’s all a matter of perspective.” Halifax didn’t answer and instead shouted to the others, “Clear a path for me to get through, or Butane dies.” As one, the men started laughing. One of them leveled his gun and said, “We don’t work for Butane, we work for money.” Halifax’s eyes widened as the man fired his gun. The bullet struck Butane in the chest but didn’t go through. Butane groaned but managed to laugh and say quietly, “See? Money’s a great motivator.” His head slumped down and his breathing stopped as blood poured down his chest. Halifax held him close and then fell to the floor to keep anyone from shooting him from behind. He quickly reached for Butane’s sub-machine gun and held it up, firing into the group ahead of him. --------------------- Banshee looked through the trapdoor and saw Halifax lying on the floor, firing madly into a large crowd. He glanced at the man he was holding hostage and disdainfully slammed his gun against the back of the man’s head. With a roar, Banshee jumped through the trapdoor and landed behind the group. He quickly rushed forward, pressed his gun against the closest Jumper’s back and then fired. Without hesitation, Banshee spun around the falling body and grabbed the next closest man by the head and twisted, snapping his neck. Halifax looked behind him to see Banshee draw two pistols and hold them out to either side as he dove forward. His feet never stopped moving as he grabbed another Jumper and pulled him in front of him just as several bullets riddled the man’s body. Halifax got to his feet and he and Banshee stood back to back as the Jumpers charged in. “Like old times?” Banshee asked. Halifax smiled, “Wouldn’t have it any other way.” ------------------- Yoozel dragged Fiurha deeper into the compound and smiled when he heard gunfire coming from behind him. He opened the door to his side and threw her in, shutting the door behind him. Fiurha glared up at him, “Is this how regular members are treated now?” “No,” Yoozel replied, “This is how partners in crime are treated.” “Partners?” Fiurha scoffed. “I had no idea what Halifax was doing. I’ve barely been conscious since I came back, no thanks to you.” “What’s that supposed to mean?” “Oh, don’t act like you don’t know.” Fiurha said with a biting tone. “I have bruises all over my body from the men you sent to find me.” “I didn’t—“ “They told me!” Fiurha shouted. “And in return, I gave them a quick death. You should try doing your own dirty work from now on instead of trusting witless brutes to do it for you.” Yoozel shook his head, “I told them not to harm you. I only meant to use you as bait.” He reached out his hand, “I’m sorry.” Fiurha spat in his face, “You’ll be sorry when I’m finished with you.” Yoozel sighed and wiped the spit off his cheek, “Fiurha, Halifax is dead. You are free from all crimes he may have committed. This is your chance to start over.” “Are you asking me to back down?” Fiurha demanded. “Crawl away and pretend that none of this happened? Pretend that the Mods didn’t have me kidnapped and nearly killed? Sorry,” she said with a smirk, “But I’m not so easily persuaded.” “I didn’t think you would be.” Yoozel muttered. He reached into his pocket and pulled out a gun, “But perhaps this can convince you.” Fiurha laughed, “I don’t fear death.” “How about pain?” Suddenly, he pointed the gun downward and fired. Fiurha screamed, clutching her bleeding leg. “You are going to leave quietly, one way or another.” Yoozel said as he raised the gun to her chest. “It’s your choice.” -------------------- Obbi continued running down the hall with Un Gato and MCs Brother following close behind. There was one door ahead of them and he charged forward, shoving it open. When he entered the room, he froze. Achronos stood there with a smile on his face, Lukems standing directly beside him. “It’s nice of you to finally arrive.” “I’m here for one reason.” Obbi said. “And it’s not to chat.” He whispered back to the other two, “You guys take care of Lukems for me. I want Achronos.” They nodded and he turned back to Achronos and pulled out his gun. “It looks like you’re unarmed.” Achronos shrugged, “I have found that the best way to win a duel is to have the element of surprise on your side.” Obbi, knowing Achronos all too well, waited for something to pop out and obliterate him. After a few seconds however, nothing happened. He looked back at Achronos, “Well, it doesn’t look like you have anything up your sleeve this time.” Achronos nodded, “I guess not. So shoot me.” Obbi looked at him for a moment and then shrugged, “Alright.” He fired his weapon and then stared in shock as Achronos and Lukems appeared to shatter into a thousand pieces. Before he realized his mistake, Achronos spun around from behind the wall that had stood directly across from the mirror that Obbi had just shot and twisted Obbi’s gun out of his hands. Achronos smiled again, “It looks like you’re unarmed.” Un Gato and MCs Brother both pointed their guns at him, but Obbi shouted, “No! He’s mine. Find Lukems.” Without another word he snapped his arm forward and grabbed the gun before Achronos could react and twisted it down. The two men grappled with each other, both trying to wrest the gun free. The gun twisted left and right, a shot going off with every jolt. Un Gato and MCs Brother stared at each other for a moment and then circled around the two combatants. They saw the door on the other side of the room slam shut and chased after the fleeing figure. One more shot went off and Achronos slammed his knee up into Obbi’s stomach and pulled the gun free. He grinned wickedly and pointed the gun at Obbi’s head with a whispered, “It’s over.” Then he fired. Obbi jerked his head up when he heard the click of an empty chamber. “Not quite.” He replied with a smile of his own. -----------------------
