More visibility for the Ninjas.

Whilst you can still determine who and who is not a ninja here I believe that making the ninjas stand out a little more would be beneficial. They may not have the same powers as before the update however they do provide one other good service to the site. They stand as role models for newer members. Thus most of what they say will: a)Be in someway helpful b)Useless Most of the time it is options "a". In a way the "hierarchy' of members on the old B.net was beneficial to learning the ropes of the site. People had others they could look to if they needed some guiding. I am not suggesting we bring the rank system back but maybe just make those who were at the top of the previous ranking system a little more stand-outish to serve the purpose of the role models of an era now gone.

  • The Ninjas are kind of useless during this beta thing. I got a reply back from a Dev saying that they aren't in charge of banning right now. But what really sold me was the message that takes the place of the post that got you banned for. "Disciplinary action" Really? from other members?

  • While I understand your point, and am flattered by your views, I would offer a counter-view. I don't know if you noticed, but within just about every social group, especially those who are post-adolescent and early adults, there is (for many) an almost irresistible and reflexive distrust and antagonism towards those in power, any power structure (real or perceived) and a need to resist and counter authority both because it IS authority and because part of maturing is asserting your own authority over your own life. I don't know if it is/was intentional on the part of our hosts, but what I have observed taking place here is that "those in power and positions of trust" have not been "deposed" but rather the signs, symbols and perks of office have been removed. Also, the real POWER was transferred and distributed to the people. Every member is now their own moderator. The moderators are no longer "shiny badges" but "just these guys that other people know". It means that the "power and authority" that so many of our community instinctively want to fight, has now been put into their hands, and into the hands of their friends, their comrades, their brothers and sisters. And with the removal of our "robes of office", the ninja show that they aren't any different than the other members either. Every member has the ability to not only enforce the rules (as they see fit) but every member has the ability to become a "respected member of the community". The odds no longer seem so daunting and unlikely. Before it was a couple of dozen out of thousands? Tens of thousands? More? Who wants to put in effort if it is that long of a shot? Now, whenever anyone offers good advice, helps out another member, shows them a shortcut or easier way to use the site, introduces them to a private group or some other gathering of similar people.... those members are forging bonds that allow THEM to be the "respected elders" of the next round of people who join this site. Which if you ask me, that's pretty damned exciting. In many ways, it's like the "good old days", only better.

    • Why are all the ninjas using the default avatar that most troll alts use? Where's those custom avatars? Excluding Recon of course.

        • Visibility and ninjas don't usually go hand in hand.
