ZERO Tolerance
Well, it's gotten to the point where there are gaps in the protective moderation net at Bungie.net. Trolls come in and say stuff, and people respond. It's really the response that makes them post. The responders are the real criminals here, making the trolls stay. The trolls can't help it, they're too stupid to know any better, so I propose a ZERO tolerance policy on responding to trolls. Anyone who responds to trolls is treated as a troll themselves. Let's face it, mod bans would be nice, but they won't help when there are no mods on, like right now, as i post this. If we want to rid ourselves of trolls willing to make a new sign-in everyday, we need to switch to ZERO tolerance for responding to trolls. That means no responce to the post itself.

I am sorry but this can't go on longer. We need something to be done. We have not had a mod on for 3 hours. 3 hours of -blam!- links in every good thread and now New Mombasa is being spammed like crazy and I've sat and watched through all of it. The mods are great. They do there jobs and lock what needs to be locked. But something has to be done. The forum can not go 3 hours with out a mod. Either we need more mods or we need to come up with a better banning system. Banning does nothing right now. These guys get banned and come back the next day to do it all over again when the mods sleep. Its not the mods faults, you can't expect 7 people to be on at every second of every day so I think one of those 2 MUST be done asap. And the amount of responses to the spam is almost as bad. The threads made... like 4 or 5 of them saying Get so and so banned or ew I hate -blam!- etc. Something has to be done to prevent this. They could come back tomorrow and if no one is on we could see more -blam!-, or goatse, or even worse.

I agree! This is out of hand! maybe if it is possible to ban people useing IP adress instead of there login, it would scare them and they would stop. I agree with people that reaspond to troll are trolls. I used to reply to them posting the rules or something but i stoped. it just make the thread go back to the top of the page. Mods should warn everyone that if they reply to trolls they will suffer serious punishment.( such as ban). i think that would scare people in to not replying to trolls. Maybe bungie can post a screen up before you enter a forum that states that or something... just my though...

True, the people who respond to trolls [i]are[/i] technically trolls, they just don't know it. I don't think much can be done at this point, because very few people care enough to understand this, so I'm going to wait and see what Ahronos' new tools can do. Even if 'troll feeders' are banned as well, others have to be able to know this is happening. It's getting the message out in a way that people will pay attention to that is needed.

They can always come back, there is no way to keep them away for good. The only thing I can think of involves downloading a program onto your computer, but even that can be circumvented easily enoough if you know computers. Maybe the assumtion is that trolls are stupid and know nothing about computers, but the only way I can think of of keeping trolls away involves alienating thousands of current members of Bungie.net, or requiring Bungie to have our personal information that can be varified. There are methods that do not involve the net that Bungie can use, of course, like sending mail to new users with a code to verify they have a unique [b]real[/b] adress. I second that. In addition, there are libraries that have many computers, or they can get on at a friends house or get a new computer if their IP is banned. I think people have found a way to change their IP... I don't know about that one. Also they can always get another email if that is banned. [Edited on 9/3/2004 11:34:57 AM]

Ah, Reiginko didn't say eliminate spam, he said eliminate spammers. I know of a ton of ways to virtually eliminate spam from the forums. There will always be spam, of course, but it's the mass-spam that sucks, and there are plenty of ways to reduce that. Wrong I am not.

O Maka, I hope you speak the tru7h. I am almost at my wits' end with all of the spammers and trolls. I've tried to reason with a few of them, I've tried to post relevant info in NM and the other forums but I am fed up. The Septagon is my final haven and it to is showing weak spots in the porverbial wall. As sfor WarHammer01's comment about IP changing, yes, it is possible. Mine changes every day because of my isp for security. -Baerdog7

It seems that we will never be fully safe until what Maka says goes into operation. I welcome that day with wide, open, welcoming arms.

I wonder what these tools are...O well, as long as they work, I like em! I wish there was a way that the mods could always be here, so stuff like this doesn't happen (they are only human. Even Shishka has to recharge his batteries, lol.). I trust what Bungie does so I'm not going to argue about what they are doing. I just wish they could kind of speed up the process. Hopefully these [i]tools[/i] will come with the remodeling of the 7th Column! We can only wait. Wait for it, like its Halo 2!

banning people for feeding trolls would do no good cos they dont know that they are making things even worse if people were banned, the forums would be filled with "OMG I GOT TEH B@NNED FOR NO F***ING REASON BUNGIE SUKS" it would go on and on and on this is what is happening with the steapowered forums and i dont want it to happen here *oh and there is mass spammage in the new mombasa forums RIGHT NOW* [Edited on 9/3/2004 9:41:30 PM]

Yes, there was an outbreak of somebody spamming the flood with "Frankie the mod banned me", but those posts were swiftly eradicated.

As much as I want to jump on their computer using the spammers IP addres and erase there registry (did I post this for the public viewing) I can't and that would be well illeagle. Doh. But don't feed the fire. Unless they constiantly reply to their own post or repost they won't stay on top. Besides they cant keep making new profiles forever to replace the ones that get blacklisted can they? Too bad we cant jump through this computer and bust them in the face for spamming.

K-line there blinkin IP addy, and if we know there gamertag kick them off Live as well...it's doing the Live community a favour as well...maybe my idea for using electroids, the vice, and 50ft of electric cable can be used for the backup plan...but still.
