Why do video game developers do this?

Why do video game developers take out chunks of a song that is featured in their video game? Let's look at an example: NBA 2K13 has a song called Mercy. But it has its own version of the song. Let's look at the original song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fRA_AQ-Azo4 Doesn't sound too bad. Now let's look at the version in NBA 2K13: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G9H-qbVLkgc Hmmm...things don't seem quite right. First of all, the "Lamborghini mercy, your chick she so thirsty" part is completely gone. Secondly, the song seems much shorter than usual. Finally, the song seems more choppier, as if many lines of lyrics were left out. I think this song got butchered. Which leads me to my question: Why do video game developers butcher songs like this?
