Is Halo 2 region locked?

I bought Halo 2 for pc brand new on Amazon. The description said it ships from the US and the picture of the game was the US version. When I finally got the game I found that they sent me a European copy. According to comments posted a few days after I ordered the game, Amazon is shipping out European copies to the US for some reason. I've heard that a European activation code won't work on an American account. Another site said that the codes are region free though. Does anybody know for a fact whether or not the game will work in the US? EDIT: Just for future reference, the game was sealed and even had the Microsoft authenticity sticker like all 360 games do. • Amazon isn't as terrible as GameStop is with it. I think you can send it back even if it's been unsealed. I'd mark it for return, select "Defective/Does not work properly" and comment "You sent me the European version even though I live in the United States. I can't use the European one due to the product being region locked." All they'll ask is that you properly package it (No, not resealing it. Just the outer packaging) and send it back. I recently had to return Fallout: New Vegas and there was little hassle to it. In fact, it was completely my fault that I ordered the wrong thing but they didn't mind at all. That's just my experience though. Might be different for you. :P [Edited on 12.25.2012 2:30 PM PST]

  •
Posted by: Dr Syx Why are you asking us if it'll work? If you have the game, try to activate it using the key. If it doesn't work, it doesn't work. What's the point in asking us?
I may not be able to return it if I open it and try to play it. That's the way it works with Gamestop and I wouldn't doubt that it works that way with Amazon as well.

As far as I know, the game is region free along with every other PC game out there. Im sure someone will clarify this though. I'm assuming your CD key didn't work which is a common problem with Halo 2 and considering yours was a brand new copy...you just struck out bad luck. The best bit is that Microsoft won't give you a new key either. So you literally have to buy another copy. My advice would be get your money back if possible and either forget about the game or try again.
