When Do You Think 343 Will Reintroduce The Flood?

T4R As we all know The Flood are an integral part of the Halo Universe, I was surprised that they weren't featured in Halo 4 to be honest. When do you think we'll see them?

The Flood being some kind of biological weapon used by the Precursors.
The Precursors view the Flood as the ultimate form of life. They're only a weapon in the sense that the Precursors do tend to attack the galaxy and it's people with it like you would a bio-weapon, but they view it more as a test rather than a weapon. It serves a higher purpose.

The Flood being some kind of biological weapon used by the Precursors.
As far as my understanding goes, the reason for the creation of the Flood has not been fully detailed yet. In Silentium's official description, it states:
...the roots of the Flood may be found in an act of enormous barbarity, carried out beyond our galaxy ten million years before...
What this act is, we do not yet know. What happened beyond our galaxy ten million years ago, we also do not know. All we do know is that the Flood were the product of this event, so without knowing the circumstances surrounding their supposed creation we cannot accurately say exactly what their ultimate purpose is. What has been revealed is that the Precursors (or, at least, the Timeless One) view the Flood as the ultimate form of life, free of conflict and imperfection that we possess. It's also a "test" to see what races are worthy of upholding the Mantle (yet even this is a pretty shady area because we do not have an exact definition of what the true Mantle is yet), so even though the Flood are seen as perfect they are still a tool to be used for something "greater", as Silentium states:
Because of that barbarism, a greater evil looms.
[Edited on 01.02.2013 11:31 AM PST]

 • The primordial implies that the flood is the mantle and even says that is the truth of it. nothing about biological weapons ever came up. Are you guys confusing Halo with Aliens???

 • My heart says never, but my brain says soon. They're rather instrumental to the plot, but 343i knows we're not big on them anymore, so I have a hunch they won't be around much, or not at all during gameplay.

 • I hope not. They can't even pull off good game play with the elites forget about the Flood

Primordium practically screams at the reader that the Flood is coming back.

 •
Posted by: Dragonzzilla While I doubt the Flood were completely eliminated at the End of Halo 3, I don't think they're coming back. A defeat of that magnitude would send them spiraling back to the feral stages where ever they might be. But I don't want to see the Flood come back with the nightmares they gave me after Cortana on Legendary... *Shivers*
I don't really see that as a defeat at all to be honest, the Gravemind may have been destroyed but that doesn't mean much because another one can be formed and numbers make no difference since one Flood spore can make an army if placed correctly. The Flood will be back, it's just a question of when.

Precursors are synonymous with the Flood. What we fought in Halo 2/3 is positively tame compared to a full-scale Precursor invasion. [Edited on 12.29.2012 4:12 AM PST]

 • But you know, after the Flood cometh the reboot... Seriously though, I don't think it'll be that blunt and simple. There'll probably be some unnecessary twist, and it'll probably follow trends. Will 343i allow everything to simply fall into place, or do they feel that an obvious ending is weak? Flood. At this point we know what the Flood is. It's the next step of galactic evolution according to a (or more) Precursor, and the current inhabitants of the galaxy do not share that sentiment (they hardly agree with each other either). What more is there to the Flood, is there more? If I may reiterate what I wrote in one of my previous posts on this thread: where can that part of the story go? Has one of the Forerunner characters turned evil, will the Precursors simply return with no twist, will it be a simple build-up for an epic war climax? Will it be a battle between synthetics and organics? One of the top two-three mysteries still left in the dark is what happened during the final moments of the Forerunner-Flood war, and its aftermath/what led to its aftermath. The story is still living in the past so to say. Therefore, one of the most important questions must be whether that will be a primery mystery to build up for and reveal, in the current state of the franchise, and if the Flood is involved in more ways than we know? My guess is that it will be solved and done with in Silentium, thus removing all--near anywey--ancient mysteries. With that done, focus will shift to the present, and what threat will emerge ou of what we've learnt. The Flood is a likely candidate, but at this point, so are three-four more... /reiteration

 • If after everything we have done throughout the games and books the flood wins Ill be royally pissed off. That will be grounds to overthrow 343. Maybe sue Microsoft for wasted time?

 •
Posted by: I Judge Bread I
Posted by: Jump Into Hell 2 for the Reclaimer Trilogy. There'll definitely be spinoffs though, so if the Flood are coming back(and from Primordium I'm pretty sure they are) humanity will probably fight them back/get wiped out by the end of Halo 6.
It would be very interesting if the flood won.
It would be interesting but also destroying the whole Halo universe at that point.

 •
Posted by: Jump Into Hell
Posted by: CoolCJ24 On the topic of how to bring the Flood back into the games, I'm partial to some of the things we've seen in the Anniversary terminals and Halo 4's Flood mode. When I say this, I mean the more "feral" sounds that the Flood make in the Halo 4 gametype, and also the eerieness they had in the "Keyes" terminal (emerging through putrid mist in the mind of Keyes). Basically, I think we all want to see the kind of Flood that brought down Ancient Humanity AND the Forerunners.
I really like how Nylund wrote that. Showing Keyes' degeneration. They really did a very good job with that terminal, it was extremely emotional and intense. It was that scene that makes you feel that the Flood is truly evil. Fits right in with the "darker" setting of Halo that 343 is pursuing.
I agree, I'm secretly hoping that they did the terminal so well because that's the style they intend to stick with in Halo 5/6

 •
Posted by: the real Janaka
Posted by: I Judge Bread I
Posted by: xAT 117x I hope not. Flood haven't been done right since H:CE, and that is mainly because they were introduced as a new enemy completely unexpectedly. The first time playing through 343 guilty spark at age 10, was the scariest gaming experience I've ever had. Flood has frankly bored me in H2/3.
This is a very good point but 343 had a really serious and dark style with H4, this could make their take on The Flood take the same path. Think of Dead Space, the Necromorphs are basically the same thing but are far more gruesome and scary. I'm not suggesting Halo go all Dead Space but they could definitely make The Flood a bit more menacing.
If there's any direction I'd like the Flood to take, it's the one from The Last Voyage of the Infinite Succor. Stranger and harder to grasp, might be a better direction, rather than the trendy darker, if they are to change at all. EDIT: It would be a true next-gen challenge if 343i decided to make the Flood something else than just units; make it into a living environment that expanded and retracted dynamically, and occasionelly spat out regular enemies. The Flood equivalent of a vehicle would be a mass of meat and limbs, similar to the one described in Primordium, and if it got a hold of a Warthog or something it would infest it and sprout legs and run after you. Anyone else feel that if the Flood is to change, it should be in a really creative way?
I like it. I've always wanted to see the Flood shown how they always should have been shown. There was always a seperation between the enemy Flood and the Flood "architecture." I'd want to see the Flood for what they really are: a single, gigantic eldritch abomination straight out R'lyeh, where there is no line between the creatures rushing you, and the very place you're standing in. I want them to be a presence more than just a different faction.
