Spartan Ops - Episode 5 trailer released

link
Secrets are revealed, trusts betrayed, and the Sangheili leader Jul 'Mdama's ultimate plan nears success. As Infinity's command crew makes a discovery that changes everything we thought we knew about the Forerunner Prometheans, the Spartans must attempt to rescue one of their own.
The Artefact is a Forerunner AI with Ancient Human memories. Chakas? Forthencho? Yprin? Looking forward to seeing how the story progresses, it's developing beautifully.

 •
Posted by: Wolverfrog Except that the ONI team about Rubicon jettisoned the device they found Chakas in, and he existed only as data in their system.
I'm with Wolverfrog on this one, as cool it would be for Chakas to appear, I doubt it will be him, unless what's contacting Halsey is something entirely different from what's inside the people-eating artifact thingy we recovered at the end of Episode 1 >_>

 •
Posted by: Wolverfrog It can't be Chakas, he's hijacked the UNSC Rubicon - I don't expect to see him for a while. It could be a fragment like 343 Guilty Spark, but I thought the point was that only the original Chakas had the human memories. Unless I'm wrong.
That's why I believe it is Chakas. Last time we saw him he had hijacked the ship and was on his way to where the librarian was. We now know that is Requiem. All the pieces fit as far as I can see.

 • The trailer pretty much confirms that the entity talking to Halsey is Chakas. "An alien AI full of human memories" Thats a pretty accurate description of Chakas as seen in Primordium, a Forerunner monitor with the durances/geas of numerous Ancient Humans stored within. Can't wait to see what he's got to say and do. "Jul 'Mdama's ultimate plan nears success." So the Librarian is coming back? "As Infinity's command crew makes a discovery that changes everything we thought we knew about the Forerunner Prometheans." Since they would already know that the Prometheans are composed humans then this discovery must be something different. Maybe it's linked to Halsey's "What gifts the Promethean lifeforms have to offer.." comment. Ancient human information, the Flood "cure", warning about the Precursers impending test?

 •
Posted by: Wolverfrog I wouldn't call the progression 'beautiful' - the pacing's annoyingly quick and the missions don't properly link to the episode preceding them.
I was referring to the cutscenes, they are very well paced and leave you with the same feeling you get at the end of the first episode of a two-parter Doctor Who episode - what is going to happen next?
I understand them re-using maps, but there's no excuse for not having cutscenes on par with the campaign's. Yes, this season is free, but it should be an investment on 343i's part; a loss with the possibility of high returns if they sell future seasons. If this season is low quality (which aside from a couple of missions and the brief episodes, it is) then people won't be incentivised to buy the next. I certainly won't spend money on a season two, if it's going to be exactly like this one. They seriously need to step up their production values. Season 2 should feature longer CGI cutscenes, more varied locations, a plot linked to the missions and in-game cutscenes that aren't just 'look up, see the tower fire a blue bolt.' I like the story and I think the concept of the mode is brilliant, but it's execution needs sorting.
I agree that the overall execution of the mode needs work. A lot of work. It's still quite experimental right now and for Halo 4 to last the next 3 years they need to seriously work on making Spartan Ops the best it can possibly be. New levels need to be added, difficulty and player-number scaling needs to be implemented (some levels on legendary alone are an absolute nightmare), more custom options could be added for non-online matches, and each level should be treated as if it were one from the main campaign. Right now, the experience is pretty disjointed, it's only in the past week with the introduction of Jul that the story in the missions are connecting to the cutscenes, in Episode 2 there was absolutely bugger all correlation with the cutscene which just felt out of place.

 • It looks so epic... but I'm missing out because they still haven't fixed their subtitles option on the Waypoint player. Guess I'll just have to do it the old fashioned way. *Halopedia transcript*
