Does having a Christmas Tree in public really offend anyone???
I see this every year that people get offended that there is a Christmas Tree in like a town square, a public office, etc.
It is now becoming more "politically correct" to say happy Holidays and saying "Merry Christmas" is becoming offensive. Isn't that a bit silly?
It amazes me that people actually protest to have Christmas Trees removed from these places saying it offends them. How does a Tree offend you?

When I was in JROTC we would do the bell ringing for the Red Cross at our local mall and we were told to only say "Happy Holidays" because it might offend someone. Honestly, I couldn't careless if it offends someone, they can get over it.

I don't see how this would be such a big issue.. I love Xmas all though I'm an atheist.. It's just an old pagan fest that has materialized far beyond the religious meaning anyways...

Some people are insecure about their religions and become upset when they see that their religion isn't as recognized as Christianity and Catholicism.

As a non-Christian I have never heard someone from my family or friend or any other non-Christian in fact say that the Christmas tree offends them. How can it? Its just a TREE! You can't force a nation not to express their religion. In the UK there are a lot of Christmas trees and I think its great. A country where over 80% of the population are Christian, they should have the right to celebrate it.

I find it all equally ridiculous and annoying. Also, it appears you are of the majority who celebrates Christmas. Imagine everyone walking around pretending everyone else believes the same things they do and are clearly celebrating the exact same holiday because to celebrate anything else would be ludicrous. It can be slightly offensive.

lol, 4 more pages of people that absolutely don't get the point. No one is offended by the term Merry Christmas, nor by the sight of a Christmas tree. You will literally never find an angry mob demanding you take your personal yard decorations down. The issue is whether the state sponsors it or not. The state not being involved in religion has been very important to a lot of people going back to the founding of our country. People aren't upset over seeing a Christmas tree, they are upset over their government endorsing a single religion. [Edited on 11.30.2012 6:14 AM PST]

I don't care for those kinds oy symbols being diplayed in public property, but most people in Britian celebrate Xmas, and I can hardly feel bad about the way I get treated by people for being atheist if I think its OK to have a go at people for celebrating Xmas.

And usually when they are trying to convert, they aren't taking anything from anyone besides moments of their time. Taking away the Christmas tree from public and commercial domain is taking away a symbol that many people enjoy. So in that way, they are different.
