TL;DR at bottom. You want to know something? I have never played a game that has had such a good campaign, such an innovative way of weekly story telling for free...and then such a terrible multiplayer experience that forsakes almost everything Halo was known for. Let me explain. The multiplayer part, anyway. I think almost all of us can agree campaign and Spartan Ops is cool. Jeez, where do I begin? The DMR being a death star, even better than Reach's no bloom DMR? Personal ordnance discouraging map movement? Dynamic spawns on the premier BTB map Ragnarok? The inexcusable amount of glitches and bugs found so far? Instant kill weapons in loadouts? Slayer Pro not really having 'pro' settings but stripped down features? The awful bullet magnetism? Aim assist? All of those are off the top of my head. Top of my head. I know I'm missing some things. Let's just go down the list. 1. The DMR. It's the best loadout weapon in game. It will trump every other loadout weapon unless the user isn't that good. The shots fire faster than the BR's burst, it's magnetism is higher, and the bloom is meaningless. The range is so ridiculous there is no reason to push up in BTB anymore. Camp middle or get punished. That brings me to my next point. 2. What's better than a gun that discourages getting closer and map movement? Personal ordnance! Not only can you camp the middle on Ragnarok with no reason to move, you can get your very own weapons dropped at your feet so you don't need to move into enemy territory and grab power weapons! You have no reason to go there. Spawn trapping was a skill, now it's discouraged. 3. Oh, nevermind...you couldn't spawn trap anyway. There are dynamic spawns on premier BTB maps like Ragnarok (and probably all maps). This is a pure noob friendly and casual catering mechanic. If you risked the chance to go into the enemy base and grab the sniper and get back out? You had a good team and or good individual skill. Sure, you can do that now, but they'll spawn at your base now. 4. The inexcusable amount of bugs. Enough said, you've all seen or heard everyone talk about crap like fake ordnance markers, ordnance stuck in the ground, the FOV zoomed in randomly, exploit spots, instant reloading and backpack reloading, active camo blue dots not showing, so on and so forth. I made a thread a while back that I can't find, but within two weeks of the game being out...the glitch count that affected gameplay was something like 31. And 343i said they didn't need a public beta. That's funny. 5. Instant kill weapons in loadouts. Who thought of this one? Hell, who thought of putting the boltshot as a secondary? Best case scenario is that the boltshot ruins CQC and you can hardly ever avoid of because of terrible lag compensation methods (more on that later). The worst case scenario? It's completely absurd and people will do this, and it will be god awful. People will use the DMR and Boltshot in conjunction, along with active camo (to get easy DMR kills and the Boltshot when charging doesn't take you out of camo and if they're lucky the blue dots on radar dont show) and Wetwork Stealth. They'll do this in BTB at the middle of the map, they'll call down personal ordnance and have no need to push up...and when someone comes to them and happens to have Pro Vision? They won't be seen anyway. That's just...wow. Can you comprehend the awfulness of that? 6. Slayer Pro is not 'pro'. Slayer pro is a boring game with everything stripped down with some stupid mechanics left in anyway. Okay, maybe you purely outskilled this one guy with the BR? Well thanks to instant respawn he can attack you again before your shields are up! Does this seem like 'pro' to you? 7. Bullet magnetism. For anyone who doesn't know about this, do yourself a favor. Go into forge, lay down several weapons, sign in a guest controller and do tests with the weapons. Aim a tiny bit off their body, shoot, repeat until you find the end of the bullet magnetism. The automatics are freaking hilarious with this, and the DMR for what it is has too much of it. 8. Aim assist kind of goes hand in hand with magnetism but it is a different noob friendly aiming mechanism for players anyway. Unload a full clip of AR or SAW into your guest while rotating your aiming stick around and around as fast as you can. Chances are your gun is still on the target. Now do the same at the air. Your screen goes crazy. What the heck. 9. Terrible netcode/lag compensation. Now, I'm not going to get off into a huge tangent full of technical terms and all that because my last thread that did, hardly anyone posted or understood. I'll just explain some things to you in layman's terms. Ever blasted a guy with a shotty in CQC and they faceplant the floor, then all of the sudden their sticky manifests on your torso without any warning? Lag compensation. Ever been shot by a guy behind a wall a split second before he actually comes into view? Lag compensation. I can go on and on but this happens to me and it happens to you if you have a GOOD connection. 10. Castrated customs and forge. Enough said. What couldn't you do in Reach with customs? What couldn't you do in forge for the custom you made? Halo 4 has so much less. The only cool things are better color in forge pieces, and trait zones. Sorry, but that's it. Dominion was a cool concept but you can't forge good BTB dominion maps. Forgeworld would have been great for that. 11. I'm sorry, but it's true. When you have a perk system with a loadout system there will always be some combinations that are completely broke. Like I said above, the DMR, bolt shot, active camo and stealth loadout...come on...really? You know what? Halo 4 fixed the few flaws Reach had but introduced a ten page checklist of other problems. I'll take being out-bloomed occasionally and not being able to strafe as well over ALLLLLLL OF THAT STUFF I've pointed out. In fact if having Forgeworld still ripe with oppurtunities, great and awesome customs, a good Forge, and balanced weapons means being out-bloomed occasionally (only in default settings)? I'll take it! TL;DR: Reach is better.

Why else would you pay (and reach wasnt cheap) for a game and then stop playing it two weeks later? If Halo 4 is so bad why hasnt it dropped as quickly as reach did? It is you who is deluded, thinking that reach still sits somewhere in the top 10 played games. lolreach.

To be honest, I say that Halo 4 campaign is better than Reach campaign. I agree it is way too easy, but what do you expect when a company is trying to expand their audience? Halo 4 was made the way it was for expansion purposes both single and multiplayer. Now i agree that yes, the multiplayer on halo 4 needs work, such as the removal of ordinances, perks, and all of the other COD inspired changes , but will doing threads like this really make a difference? No, because it is now out of bungie's hands. I will admit that I really miss the feeling that I am playing halo and not some other game, but as the world changes so will everything else in it change.
Posted by: ClearOrangeZero
Posted by: Viral Elegy
There are numerous issues with your points. I'll go by each point to make it easy to follow. 1. It's no worse than it was in Reach. Even with full bloom, the DMR slows map movement. This isn't much of a problem in H4 though because of the amount of cover scattered around. 2. There's always a reason to go into the enemy base; it's a great position. It's hard to stay alive there, but simply being there helps your team a great deal. And spawn trapping isn't discouraged. 3. That's not how the spawn system works in H4. Spawn trapping is still quite frequent, and can be done on dynamic spawn maps. You're not going to make them spawn at your base just by having one or two people in theirs. 4. Most of these have been fixed. Betas are expensive btw, and since Microsoft makes the calls, you can see why a beta wasn't done. 5. One weapon that breaks only CQC gameplay does not outweigh jetpack, armor lock, the OP Banshee, grenades, radar jamming camo, no bleedthrough, bloom... You get the point. 6. Again, not how the respawn system in H4 works. This has happened to me a handful of times only. I don't like instant respawn either, but it's not as big an issue as Reach's issues were. 7. I saw this video and this video and was surprised at how much bullet magnetism H4 and H3 had. My point here is, H4 is no worse in this regard. 8. This is a problem, which H3 had less of, but Reach didn't do much less of, if any. The only thing difficult about aiming in Reach was fighting bloom. Otherwise, it was comparatively easier than using the BR in H3. 9. Reach, H3, and H2 were FAR worse in these areas. 10. Reach customs were rather castrated too, compared to H3. H4's forge has more than Reach's forge and no less. Forgeworld was a framerate killer and hurt custom games a good deal. 11. Like I said earlier, bloom, jetpack, grenades, no bleedthrough... kinda outweighs your issue, considering those issues are at the core of the game and hurt everything. The only two things Reach did right were Invasion and TU MLG. H4 has problems to be solved, but at least it's not broken at its core like Reach is.
I agree. I believe Halo 4 is REACHED improved. A TU for Halo 4 that fixes most of the major flaws will make Halo 4 an almost perfect game. Think of what the TU did for Halo 3. As far as I remember, Halo 3 had one major flaw, and that was the random spread of the BR, but was still not a big issue. All other problems were fixed in the TU. Halo 3, took everything that was Halo 2 and improved it. Equalling a great, almost perfect game. I hope the TU for HAlo 4 can do the same. Halo 4, i believe is alot more balanced than REACH.
That was a major part of it, yes. The fact that they changed the invincible option to make backsmacking useless was another (that there killed Cops and Robbers), and the lack of color that H3 forge had plenty of being another. That's all I recall atm. I remember having a list at one point, so I'll have to see if I can find it.

I find that the MP in Halo 4 is slightly better than the MP in Reach. Do wish though that the DMR would get slightly nerfed but considering they added the BR, we all had to assume that they were making one weapon slightly better than the other. (Halo 3 vs Halo Reach, BR -> DMR)But hey, atleast they made the automatic weapons very decent now! Actually time to use the Assault Rifle! Some glitches are still prevailing, but 343 will probably actually try to fix them by some point, considering the fact they take time to make the spartan ops episodes/chapters. The engine, I cannot really say much about. 343 was trying to make a speedy game before the Halo franchise got destroyed, thanks to Reach (Most of my friends say that Reach was the dirty dishes of Halo, and therefore the reason why they did not want to purchase Halo 4, for they fear the same result. But they agree Halo 4 is better but wished it got more players.) Now, if Halo 4 released a public beta, holy -blam!- drop the ball! Glitches might have been fixed! But sadly, not so. We all played Reach beta, and sadly the Reach BETA was more fantastic than the Released for Market version of the game itself. (But Halo 4 did have a beta, privately though. So don't get pissy.)
Posted by: Oh GodLike One
Vendors on Amazon are just a glorified version of eBay. If it isn't sold and shipped by Amazon, it's eBay. They set their own prices, just like vendors on eBay. Look how stupid the prices get for ]Halo 3 and Reach when it isn't sold and shipped from Amazon. So using vendors who aren't Amazon is just about as smart as using eBay. You took their quote completely out of context. They are only talking about being a fan to know what's going on in Reach and ODST and not playing as the Master Chief. They aren't taking about gameplay, multiplayer, or campaign being a disappointment, like you point out. In fact they go on to praise the Reach campaign So what was your point of linking the article? You claim how the game in general was a disappointment, but they are only talking about the Master Chief how much of a fan players are. Or is that what you always meant. That if Reach had the Master Chief, you'd be ok with it. No one was comparing Halo to CoD. Halo has lagged behind CoD since MW2. The metrics are only between flagship Halo titles. That's Halo 2, 3, Reach and 4. Players will always populate the most recent game. No matter how bad it is. Reach sucked compared to 3, yet it maintained a higher population from day one. Long story short. You're a case study in retard. Responding to you is pointless. Have fun with you deluded life. [Edited on 01.06.2013 10:10 AM PST]
Wrong ... reach fell to position #2 just to weeks from launch. If you compare it to Halo 4 ... well old reach was at #3 at this same point since both games release. So even using the same time scales reach is doing worse. And before you start; - Halo 4 also has BLOPS 2. - Has to compete against 4 COD titles in the top 10. - Had only a two year gap between reach (reach had 3 years) Yes, reach sold many more copies than either Halo 3 or Halo 4 ... and yet has dropped on the online quicker than either of those two. Why ... because most people think it is crap and not worth playing. Derp ... sure even you can figure that one out.

Please op no more logic. I rather just not think about stuff and play Halo 4 with my mom. Thinking in games take too much work that is why Halo 4 is better than Halo Reach and all the other Halo games. I don't have to think to play, Halo 4. In plus, the population knows what a good game is. I can't have my own opinion. I rather just be a tool and go with what the population says is better.
Posted by: Oh GodLike One
Posted by: Ghost 4119 Yes but the thing is that, 'those guys' didnt own Reach. We own Halo 4, and it still sucks.
Who are "those guys" you speak of? Sadly I do own reach (cant even trade it these days). Plus it cost more than twice as much as Halo 4. And 60% of people stopped playing it online within 2 weeks of launch. Halo 3 now sells for more than reach - and its 3 years older. Why are so many reachtard in denial? Even the games owners admit "We lost our way" (aka: reach was a disappointment). And yes, 'those guys' did own reach.
hey hey mate calm down a tad. No need to get feisty

They never even mentioned multiplayer. They are only talking about campaign, and how you had to have played 1-3 or be a fan to understand what's going on. And not being able to play as the Master Chief.
Halo 3 @ $225 is $85 more than than reach @ $140 ... ah, I see, your after the cheap [cough] standard version ... may as well go and buy a trade-in copy - lol. And out-of-context, guess you was there so you would know. And 'multiplayer' as a defense ... honestly ... have you even seen how far the online multiplayer numbers have dropped. Guess you really thought that through.

I believe Halo 4 is the better game when compared to REACH. Yes Halo 4, still has alot of bugs that need fixing. Hopefully the TU will address these. I like REACH how it was befor the TU. REACH in my oppionion, only required 3 things to be fixed. Armor Lock (TU Fix this issue) Guass Hog (Fix = Shooting Quickly between Shots overheats) Banshee (Fix = Flipping users 1/3 of Boost) Bloom was annoying, but was happy to put up with it. I believe Halo 4 has taken REACH and improved it (Think what Halo 3 TU did to Halo 2). But If I had to make Halo 4. I would had returned it to its roots (Halo 3), and had all the new AA in REACH and Halo 4 to be new Equipment. It just be Halo 3, with improved graphics, new weapons, new vehicles and more equipment. No Loadouts, no Ordanace, just the Halo we love and remember.
Posted by: ShadowLordDaniel And 343 said they didn't need a Beta... not when you have game-breaking glitches 24/7.
Didn't you know, Halo 4 is the Halo 5 Beta.
Posted by: wolfdawg125 Reason's I don't like halo 4: Welp, the "ghost trench level" as well as the "end game spaceship level" left like -blam!- sonic 06 levels. Not even remotely joking. In fact, in past "halo chase levels," not only were they end of game and therefore epic, but when you died due to not being fast enough it was that part of what you were on fell or blew up. In halo 4 you spontaneously explode. This is a prime example of the ways 343 had a lack of effort with this game. They had amazing visuals, yet apart from a 1 -blam!- MINUTE warthog section at the beginning of the game, which showed great blue skies and amazing green grass, the entire god damn game was just using boring, grey, plastic looking forerunner sections that, let alone being literally levels built up of white walls, had already been seen a thousand times in past halo games.
The Broadsword run was ok but the Ghost run was abomination, I agree. You can procrastinate all you want as long as you're in the Ghost. But once you start trying to explore out of the level on foot (because it's so much better that way), you die on the spot. But the worst part is that it's set so early in the level there's nothing to worry about. You and Cortana are inevitably going to make it in one piece. I agree about Requiem. There should have been an easter egg that brought a Pelican with some marines on it. I don't care if it'd made no sense, it's an easter egg, it doesn't have to make sense!
