Why the Wii was the best console of this last generation
Now that the Wii U is out and the eighth generation has started, I think we can look back at this last generation and safely say that the Wii was the best console for one reason: It had, by far, the best exclusives. Sure it didn't have HD graphics or much multiplat support, but the exclusives are what truly make it the best console. Now, let's take a quick look at some of them.

No doubt the Wii had a TON of shovelware, but the above games are all fantastic, many of which are hidden gems. The Wii had some of the most original and inspired games this generation instead of pandering the to COD/ADD audience (not saying COD isn't extremely fun, because it is). Make a top 100 exclusives list for the 360 and PS3 and chances are at least 60 shooters make the list.
So with that out of the way, what are the Flood's opinions?

Except that's completely false. The closest to rehashing Nintendo has been is the NSMB series, which was actually done by interns and new developers as a way to cut their teeth. NSMBU is pretty different, difficult and reminiscent of SMW. Every single Zelda game has been very different. If you look at each of the 3D Zeldas and can tell me with a straight face they're rehashes then you're blind. Each of their games has been different from the previous entry in the series and is lovingly crafted. That's not milking, and you're just looking for anything to hate at this point. The Wii was the best console of the last generation. The PS3 and RRoD are essentially just -blam!- gaming PCs with absolutely no customization or consumer freedom. PS3 has a handful of exclusives that may make it worth buying. Admittedly, I bought one just for MGS4, GoW3, and Demon's Souls. The Xbox has Halo, and... uh... Halo. Basically, the "power" consoles of this gen offered the same -blam!- you could get elsewhere with a significant downgrade in every aspect from technical to control schemes. The Wii offered a new way to play games. Whether you liked motion control or not, the Wii at least had a reason to exist.

Halo 3 is great. Gears of War is pretty generic and boring, though Gears 3 had lots of great moments. It's polished and works well but the games aren't too different and get boring after a while. Bioshock was multiplat from the beginning. It's a spectacular game, yes, but I'm counting exclusives which is all that matters. Most exclusives are ported to PC anyway, and are objectively better so multiplats don't count. The hardware was outdated, the motion controls were gimmicky, and with the exception of Skyward Sword and a few other quality games, most of the games for the system were sub-par and/or more of Nintendo's trademark milking. It can only be called the most [i]successful[/i] console, as it did indeed sell well, but the system itself left much to be desired. [Edited on 11.18.2012 10:38 AM PST]

Not when it first came out, when the new consoles were unveiled the PS3 stood out as the most ground breaking, the wii had motion gaming which had been around for years.

I played most of those games. Would I say the Wii is the best console? Not sure. I don't know if there is a "best" console anyway. I have them all and I enjoy them all. Isn't that enough?

[i]Punch-Out!![/i] is definitely one of those fantastic hidden gems. First-party software for Nintendo's consoles has always been top-notch, but lack of a passable online experience and first-party titles cripples the Wii. For gaming alone, PS3 is probably the most well-rounded: it's got a great stable of exclusives, has all the hi-def and Blu-Ray, and has the PSN. The 360 is my pick for the best overall media box, though Kinect makes it more competitive as the best gaming machine.
