Human Genocide and Halo 4

So. The Covenant used to believe that the Forerunners believed Humanity to be heretical, and thus launched a 27-year war of genocide. BUT in Contact Harvest, it is revealed that this is a pretense to prevent knowledge of Humanity's being reclaimers escaping, so apparently the whole thing was a sham. EXCEPT on Requiem, we learn that the sole surviving Forerunner really does want Humanity destroyed, and the Storm gleefully follows him. So they were right all along, in a roundabout manner. Funny. • Well, unless it is confirmed that there are other survivors, Didact is the sole living Forerunner. [Edited on 11.16.2012 7:53 PM PST]

 • The Librarian seemed rather fond of humanity.

 •
Posted by: xi43 I believe The Didact was the only Forerunner who didn't like humans.
xi43 is correct. It's stated throughout the books that the Didact was the only Forerunner that despised all Humanity for entering Forerunner space and attacking them. What the Didact really didn't understand is that the Ancient Humans knew how to destroy the Flood and were ultimately using their own methods similar to the Covenants "glassing of planets" to eradicate the Flood. The Didact only paid attention to the number of Forerunners that died against the Humans. Edit* To contribute, the Didact also felt that the Forerunners were the only known species to be worthy of upholding the Mantle and that the Human's were not and are still not. • Bornstellar must have been corrupted by the Primordial's words. It's not the Ur Didact, as he seemed to have regret about fighting the humans after realizing they were just trying to find a sanctuary from the Flood. On the other hand, perhaps he figured out what they were really up to (apparently, they were trying to use the Flood as weapons). I'm not really sure as I have not yet watched the terminals (what a horribly stupid idea not making them available in-game not to mention they were inadequate replacements for skull hunting since they become obsolete once accessed) but I've read about it. Thank the gods HBO made them available, though there's still no subtitles. :( [Edited on 11.16.2012 9:42 PM PST]

 • Ur-Didact is a bit of an ass. Bornsteller Didact is a boss.

His wife didn't seem to care about it, which she pretty much proved by removing a lesser species freedom by possesing them with various Geas. I see that the identity of the Ur Didact is being debated back and forth, but for me it has been super obvious; his corruption that lead him to do evil things to humanity, is selfcontained in Halo 4. It's all clearly explained in the Terminals. He didn't like the ancient human beings, but his entire persona; the one that Cryptum buildt up, defines him as a didactic individual. Yeah, he's not just called the Didact for the lulz. Prior to Halo 4 he was just a deeply conflicted individual. I guess people want it to be deeper than it is, that is was foreshadowed since he first entered the scene, so that some kind of profound revelation may bloom up, but there is nothing that implies that he would kill a human being in order to solve his problems. He was the one who was against the Halo Arrays for -blams!- sake. Cryptum - Bornstellar opens cryptum - Captured by the Master Builder - Left on a Flood infested planet - somehow got away (Silentium?) - Halo 4 terminals, Forerunner council, experiments with the Composer, kills human beings, Locked in Cryptum by the Librerian - Halo 4, Master Chief opens cryptum. The underlined part is when he is corrupt/evil. [Edited on 11.17.2012 7:27 AM PST]

But he still hated humans because, despite being innocent, they still committed genocide against the Forerunners. Plus he didn't seem to think too highly of us from the start anyway.

 • Two San 'Shyuum bureaucrats, the Minister of Fortitude and the Vice Minister of Tranquility, were already scheming to use the supposed reliquary to inaugurate a new Age of Reclamation with themselves as the Hierarchs of the High Council. To do this, they needed the blessing of the Oracle of High Charity. When the two San 'Shyuum approached the Philologist to affirm on their behalf, the data from the Rapid Conversion caused the long-dormant Oracle to reactivate. Mendicant declared that the Covenant had been misinterpreting Forerunner symbols: the "relics" in question were the humans, calling them Reclaimers and his makers. This shocked the three San 'Shyuum, who falsely concluded that the humans were actually living Forerunners who had been left behind when the others transcended. Although they were able to prevent Mendicant from taking the Forerunner Dreadnought to take the humans to deliver them to the Ark, Fortitude concluded that if the masses learned that they might be left behind, they would rebel against the Prophets. Fortitude and Tranquility inducted the Philologist into their plan and ascended as the High Prophets of Truth, Regret, and Mercy. The hierarchy declared that the humans destroyed the holy reliquary on Harvest, and ordered the entire race to be eradicated.
