Do you think they are considered weird by the rest of our youthful society?
Every other teenager I talk to likes music such as Dubstep, Katy Perry, Among other stuff in the rap, hip hop or pop genre.
When I say I like the bands like The Rolling Stones, David Bowie or Led Zeppelin they give me strange looks as if I'm a creature from mars.
So do you think this is a cliche of other teenagers, or is it true?
-
No. There are many teenagers, particularly males, who enjoy music from the previous generation.
-
By teenagers, yeah. By sane individuals? No.
-
I'm a Teenager and I listen to Chicago and Deep Purple. Am I weird?... *Angsty teen suicide*
-
There are many others with similar interests.
-
No, they're just listening to what their parents listened to.
-
Who cares what teenagers think? Just listen to your music.

Well when I was a teenager I listened to all that stuff. I did so because I liked it, and I didn't like the music of my generation. I listen to what I like. Be that Classical, Metal, Hard Rock, Techno / Electronic, or Classic Rock. What ever I like, I will listen to. That's how I was when I was a teenager at least.

I listen to Enrico Caruso and that dude has been dead for 100 years.

Know the feel OP. Most kids in my school who listen to Classic Rock are freaks, nerds, and weirdos. Thing is it's not so black and white. Everyone listen up, this is coming from a social (read: POPULAR) guy who knows about high school politics. I'm taking a "History of Rock n Roll" class, elective. Most of the people in here are characters. What I mean is they're the anti-social freaks, don't shower, pale as hell, hate on the popular kids. Some are goth. Some of nerds, low self esteem. Most people in HS who proudly wear Led Zeppelin shirts and things of that nature are usually weird. But it's not so cut and dry like I said...not so black and white Yeah if you hate on new music don't be surprised when you don't have friends. I love old school rock n roll, but I love new music too. Dubstep, Trance, Rap, Hip Hop, Kanye West, Taylor Swift I LOVE ALL THAT -blam!-. This is coming from a cool guy who goes to parties and has 0 trouble talking to girls. My interpretation is be able to connect with others.....so if you're talking to a cute softball player...and she looks like she listens to Rap, don't start talking about Mick Jagger cause shances are she don't know who the -blam!- he is. Don't be surprised when you discuss old school music to people like her, and get looks However old school R&B, like Motown and those funk artists, everyone knows them. Lot of my boys listen to old school rock and roll, and during practice we always listened to Guns n Roses, Aerosmith, Zeppelin. It's unfortunately the freaks who don't shower, and wear the same ACDC shirt everyday, who give honest guys like the OP a bad name

I prefer listening to music of the past to music in the present.
-
-blam!- the Beatles. Only a couple of their songs are good, otherwise it's just generic pop. Black Sabbath and Dio forever! -signs devil horns-
-
Who cares?
-
im 12 and im sry for wut my gnration did 2 music
-
The music we have nowadays in my generation is -blam!- terrible
-

Who cares what teenagers or any other person listens to? Just enjoy your own thing and don't worry about it. Taste in music doesn't mean a thing.

I'm actually a huge fan of dubstep and hip-hop and music on the radio and whatnot. But over the summer I somehow got into classic rock and other old songs through pandora. by far the best thing that could've happened to me. The older music is so much better!! and has way more meaning than today's songs about sex and money and all. I still listen to dubstep and all, but I prefer the older stuff now and have adjusted my car radio to stations that play older music instead of the new stuff. You're normal OP!! It takes awhile for people to see the light. [Edited on 11.15.2012 11:27 PM PST]

You never see Slash throwing the horns. No Angus Young, no Pete Townshend, not from Jim Morrison.

A lot of rap today is sampled from older music anyway, so you're still listening to the same badass tracks. Rap is just poetry spat over it

Planet Caravan for example is utterly ghostly.

They like music of their age. Seems logical.
