explination for weak promethian weapons here *spoillers*

I was always thinking these promethians are just going to wipe the floor with MC in the campaign with their light weapons. I really think ALL the light weapons should've been hitscan, cause it's LIGHT used as ammunition for crying out loud! But I think there wasn't such a gap in weaponry as compared to UNSC was because the humans are ready to take the mantle now. They caught up to the forunners. I mean a simple nuke took out a WHOLE promethian ship damn it!But the hardlight shielding around MC could resist the nuke, so maybe if diadact was still controlling the ship and not fall off it like a noob, the ship would've survived lol. So yeah humanity caught up and we can now fight on even terms in space and on land. Am I just NOW figuring this out or was this explained somewhere in the extended universe and I just missed it or something?

 • I found this really strange as well. If the Forerunners were advanced enough to do things like rotate entire galaxies, why were their weapons so (relatively) weak? Maybe they weren't as advanced in war tactics, they were shown to use projectile based weapons in the terminals as well. I think this is what the Didact meant when he said that time had been humanity's ally - we had caught up with the Forerunners.

 • The Forerunners just simply weren't a weaponized race is all. After the Human-Forerunner war, they dismantled all their weaponry and relied on the rapidly shrinking Warrior Servants to defend their entire empire. Their ships didnt even have weapons, just bubbles to capture ships in. This is why they lost the war with the Flood so quickly. It makes sense that their weapons would be limited in power because the science behind them had regressed during the intervening centuries in the early Flood conflict.

 • Warriors were always the lowest caste in Forerunner society. They were viewed with shame, a necessary violation of the Mantle they all pretended to hold so dear to their hearts - it seems to me like the Forerunners' technological mastery was over the various realms of slipspace and cosmic manipulation. I doubt outside the warrior-servants, technology for war was given much attention; just look at the Deep Reverence, and the state of disrepair a once-mighty ship was in. As opposed to us, where our most advanced technology is almost always designed by the military and a country's technological might isn't measured by how good they are at sub-atomic engineering but how many weapons of mass destruction they own. I'd imagine Ancient Humanity had better weapons of war than the Forerunners did, but the latter's dominion over the dimensions and probably greater numbers due to our having lost over 1/3 of the population to the Flood assured them of victory. • We didn't catch up, the Forerunners degraded and caught up with us in reverse. What we've seen in-game of the Forerunners is the tip of the ice berg compared to the Warrior Servants. Even the original description for the Knights points out that they're much different from the legendary Warrior-Servants of the past. The Forerunners are dead, the Prometheans are the result of their fall, and they shouldn't be considered the same group. Though the nuke destroyed the Mantle's Approach because it blew up right next to the Composer mid-fire. Cortana even says that small shield protecting it would render the nuke useless. • They're crap in gameplay for balance. But if they were any good canonically we would see the flood defeated. Edit- Does anyone else find it stupid that the Prometheons weren't the solution to the flood infection. They have close range weaponry and combat use. They can't get infected. They can friggin teleport out of trouble and the light weapons means that the flood can't re assimilate the dead as they have simply disintegrated. You can argue, oh but there's not enough [just like how it was in the terminals]....when is there never enough in the Halo Universe in 343i universe. Or you can argue it's unethical to Humans. But consider that the forerunners solution was to wipe out all life and reseed it. What difference does it make? This is a gold mine and it'll just fly above our heads because something in canon will just magically say or won't say, that the flood was just unstoppable. Actually going back even further, what about the Super-Sentinels at Onyx? [Edited on 11.14.2012 7:15 AM PST]

 • Or, like somebody said once... "These are handheld weapons. Not their giant battle suits or fighters."

 • True. We've only seen a sliver of their capabilities.

 • I agree that we have only seen a little of what they could do. For instance just look at the war sphinxes that the forerunners had. They were supposed to be able to sweep continents and level entire cities. I feel as though if they still had those we would be in a world of trouble haha.

 • So disintegrating whole beings is weak?

Also, as I said earlier. What we use in the game are not on that scale because these are all basic handheld weapons.
