Theoretical Physicist???
Did anyone else notice this in the sack under the favorite ship question? Is it real and if so is Bungie's plan to take over the world finally coming to fruition?

Although RSA does underpin the rest of cryptography in computing, that's all it does, underpin. It's used once for secure key exchange or identification and then left alone for as long as you can trust the keys exchanged. So, if RSA ever comes close to being broken, we can just make the bit length of the prime numbers used infeasibly large. Compared to, say, AES, which has to be employed over and over again in realtime on every bit of data, RSA is used once to encapsulate one relatively small piece of text and exchange it, again only once. So, why bother improving it? At the end of the day, unless it's found to have gaping security holes, any "better" algorithms are only going to be a linear improvement, simply increasing the bit length gives you exponential improvements in security.

Maybe to help with physics within their new IP? A theoretical physicist could be useful for a lot of things (hypothetically). Personally I'm studying to be a geophysicist, if I can't hit it with seismic waves then it doesn't exist!

Sawnose has a degree in Theoretical Physics, but I would imagine he was hired on for programming skills, as the majority of physicists can program in one or several languages, even if that language is just Matlab. I suppose that's maybe just my opinion. But, I attended a seminar a few weeks back about this. Researchers are up to about 12 or so gates I believe, with the idea that around 80-90 are needed for this to be feasible. Also, companies are usually the ones who fund the research. Imaging, for example, is very well developed partially because of video games.

After rereading my op I can understand the confusion but I know a theoretical physicist is real. Why does Bungie have one? I guess it could be for engineering purposes but that seems strange. As far as quantam computing goes unless I would be very impressed if Bungie had access to this kind of tech for the simple purpose of data mining.
