Posted by: the omega man117 So basically Halo 2 had: a way to spam bullets and noob-combo, bullet sponges with horrible AI,
Amen. It's not fun when the AI are spamming you with their bottomless clip guns and they rarely do an evasive maneuver, rarely giving you a break. It's not fun being forced into cover all the time. It's even worse when the Needler projectile is so fast and condensed, it's unavoidable compared to CE, where you could maneuver around them. Having modded Halo 2, I know that if Chief had a faster run acceleration and better health, Legendary would be easy mode.
Posted by: the omega man117 graphics that look like someone took Halo 1 and used a 'noise' and 'sharpen' filter on every texture in the game, and a 4 hour campaign with mediocre gameplay.
It's prioritization on the graphics killed half of the fun CE had for me IMO: altering cutscenes, AI in cutscenes, AI collecting, vehicle collecting, blockades (I had a Heretic collection on The Arbiter and they kept deleting my supply case if it wasn't on it's side). On some levels, enemies get deleted if you outdistance them. The draw distance is rather small so if you don't have a sniper, you won't be expecting them (results in a hundred deaths before you get used to the high learning curve). And needler multi-supercombines on corpses (why the hell was this removed?!). Not to mention the loss of first person Hog passenger seat, bumpy Hog physics, Banshee hover, fast Ghost, driving Ghosts against vehicles and getting launched, ally passenger health on the HUD, riding on Scorpion treads on Co-op, rolling Jackals (it made it easier to shoot them but more importantly, it made it easier for marines to land hits on them), marines that stayed in their seats (on some levels), shall I go on?
Posted by: the omega man117 Also Halo 2 so wonderfully force-fed you the story and humanized aliens that were previously very menacing.
I really do wish Halo receives a free play mode someday so I wouldn't have to put up with the cutscenes and get right into the gameplay.
Posted by: the omega man117 Halo 2 was not "improved", it was noobified.
This is especially noticeable with the fuel rod gun. [Edited on 10.29.2012 5:58 PM PDT]
Posted by: Drunky1993 Campaigns geared for different enjoyment. Halo 2's was way more pleasant and entertaining but Halo 1 was way more interesting.
Pleasant for a masochist maybe. Entertaining for a hardcore/extremely patient tricker. I've spent countless hours on multiple Halo 2 projects only to get screwed by the short checkpoints (lasting 8 seconds in most instances), lack of delaying methods (usually I have to jump repeatedly, which can make it inconvenient to capture gameplay), and the light vehicle weight (getting splattered by my own Spectre and Banshee). And on Cairo Station, when I was attempting SLASO, I got screwed several times: the game spawned enemies way too early not to mention I didn't get my checkpoint if I saved and quit at a previous one. Oh and some weird stuff happened (here's one thing that wasn't too unpleasant for me): Heretic boss went through the wall where I was hiding and assassinated me, I sword flied vertically off of a climbing Flood, a marine got killed when he took cover against the Covenant bomb
Posted by: MR Royals whereas in Halo 2 the badassery is balanced out with good storytelling.
Woe to this approach, which cripples gameplay (not necessarily in Halo 2 but I'm certain it'll affect Halo 4). Most of CE cutscenes could be skipped immediately. Every corner had an enemy waiting for you. Halo 2's enemy count was lacking (minus the Jackal snipers). Halo 3's enemy count was lacking (minus the Grunts and Flood). Reach's enemy count was lacking.
Posted by: MR Royals I'm just saying that the sequel basically improved all aspects of the game.....
You mean adding crutches like vehicle boarding, OP noob combo, and dual wielded Needlers. It's not fun to fight a Jackal anymore. It's definitely not fun to fight a dual wielding Elite. And it's just disappointing to rely on boarding since fighting vehicles on foot is essentially suicide.
Posted by: MR Royals minus the cliffhanger ending....
There's more to say about it's lackluster ending. It lacks checkpoints for replayability, the bottom platform has a death barrier right below it killing any Elite, Tartarus can kill with 1 hit even on Easy, there's no beam rifles around so if you didn't bring one you have to rely on Johnson, and Tartarus is a lame enemy. This battle sure could use some Halo 3 influence (jumping Chieftains, distinct berserking animations) not to mention CE (different animations when being shot, natural believable animations, less damage more brains). But my personal disappointment is that the camera spends much of it's time on Keyes compared to the other cutscenes where I get to see my Arby in his splendor! It's especially disappointing to see the surviving Elites randomly being absent or present in it.
Posted by: MR Royals Halo 2 Campaign Not including Dual-wielding, scarabs, brutes, refined graphics, and a scarab gun easter egg, I still feel that Halo 2 has a better overall campaign. Halo: Combat Evolved * you sitll move forward until your feet touch the ground when you exit a hog or ghost * the warthog still gains a meter or 2 when you exit it while in motion * ghost continues to move until the rear makes contact wiht the ground when you exit it while in motion * needler isn't useless thes fun game mechanics offer unlimited replay value: find different ways to mess around with enemies such as tricking a goldie to destroy his allies ghost or performing flips on an a wraith with your ghost as it trys to kill you [Edited on 10.28.2012 1:39 AM PDT]

Halo 1 - great gameplay, simple plot, balanced and challenging difficulty, high replayability due to level design, AI, and freedom. Has a decent port on the PC, lots of modding support, Custom Edition, and there's a lot to love about the animations and sounds. Subtle glitches, you can use level skips to make a battle play out differently. The only thing I didn't like is 'Press X to enter a vehicle'. I felt like I was the Master Chief. Halo 2 - utter disappointment when played as the developers intended. Glitches, easter eggs, and skulls make up for it's gameplay, but barely. The AI are less convincing. Exploration isn't that great in scope; only Delta Halo comes to my mind with it's level top. Replayability is hindered by inconveniences like checkpoints lasting only 8 seconds. Any difficulty above Easy can be overwhelming and hinder approach. Interesting plot though. I love making an Elite army (as in my sig). The Arbiter is a cool character and playing as him is more preferable to the Master Chief. [Edited on 10.18.2012 5:04 PM PDT]

Both had their strengths and i like them both equally. Halo 1 - The feeling of desperation against a relentless enemy whilst waging guerrilla warfare. The confusion brought up when Keyes disappears, the surprise of the Flood and the race to beat 343 Guilty Spark in stopping Halo was all really well done. Halo 2 - "Humanised" the Covenant, we learn their motives, we see Earth and her fleet for the first time (300 SMACS, 150+ warships etc) and the fight to save Earth begins. We also see the cracks in the Covenant society which leads to civil war. The only two things I didn't like were the Floods early appearance (perhaps should have been left till the Gravemind revealed himself fully) and the rush leading up to the cliffhanger. Just my views on the matter. I'd have to say maybe I like Halo 1 a little more but i appreciate both :)
